Robot Locomotion via RLS-based Actor-Critic Learning (RLS 기반 Actor-Critic 학습을 이용한 로봇이동)

  • Due to the merits that only a small amount of computation is needed for solutions and stochastic policies can be handled explicitly, the actor-critic algorithm, which is a class of reinforcement learning methods, has recently attracted a lot of interests in the area of artificial intelligence. The actor-critic network composes of tile actor network for selecting control inputs and the critic network for estimating value functions, and in its training stage, the actor and critic networks take the strategy, of changing their parameters adaptively in order to select excellent control inputs and yield accurate approximation for value functions as fast as possible. In this paper, we consider a new actor-critic algorithm employing an RLS(Recursive Least Square) method for critic learning, and policy gradients for actor learning. The applicability of the considered algorithm is illustrated with experiments on the two linked robot arm.

Development of Optimum Design Program for PPC Structures using DCOC (이산성 연속형 최적성 규준을 이용한 PPC 구조의 최적설계프로그램 개발)

  • This paper describes the application of discretized continuum-type optimality criteria (DCOC) and the development of optimum design program for the multispan partially prestressed concrete beams. The cost of construction as objective function which includes the costs of concrete, prestressing steel, non-prestressing steel and formwork is minimized. The design constraints include limits on the maximum deflection, flexural and shear strengths, in addition to ductility requirements, and upper and lower bounds on design variables as stipulated by the design Code. Based on Kuhn-Tucker necessary conditions, the optimality criteria are explicitly derived in terms of the design variables-effective depth, eccentricity of prestressing steel and non-prestressing steel ratio. The prestressing profile is prescribed by parabolic functions. The self-weight of the structure is included in the equilibrium equation of the real system, as is the secondary effect resulting from the prestressing force. An iterative procedure and computer program for updating the design variables are developed. Two numerical examples of multispan PPC beams with rectangular cross-section are solved to show the applicability and efficiency of the DCOC-based technique.

A Real-time Vision-based Page Recognition and Markerless Tracking in DigilogBook (디지로그북에서의 비전 기반 실시간 페이지 인식 및 마커리스 추적 방법)

  • Many AR (Augmented Reality) applications have been interested in a marker-less tracking since the tracking methods give camera poses without attaching explicit markers. In this paper, we propose a new marker-less page recognition and tracking algorithm for an AR book application such as DigilogBook. The proposed method only requires orthogonal images of pages, which need not to be trained for a long time, and the algorithm works in real-time. The page recognition is done in two steps by using SIFT (Scale Invariant Feature Transform) descriptors and the comparison evaluation function. And also, the method provides real-time tracking with 25fps ~ 30fps by separating the page recognition and the frame-to-frame matching into two multi-cores. The proposed algorithm will be extended to various AR applications that require multiple objects tracking.

Java and C/C++ Mixed Programming (자바와 C/C++의 혼합 프로그래밍)

  • The standard Java class library does not support the platform-dependent features needed by the application. Therefore, the Java application including the platform -dependent features must supplement the required features by invoking native functions using JNI. The native language programmer has to explicitly specify how to connect to various Java objects and later to disconnect from them. In this paper, I suggest a way to avoid these annoying works. The native method in the pure java class can not contain a native code block. By providing a native code block for the native method, it is possible for programmer to write a native code without being aware of JNI. To achieve this, I introduced the native class that is a java class on the native environment, and made it possible to interchange data by placing an arbitrator between the java class and the native class.

  • 전동기는 산업 전 분야에 걸쳐 다양하게 사용되는 회전기기로서, 소형화, 경량화, 고속화하는 추세에 있다. 이는 전동기 프레임의 구조강성을 약화시키고, 축계 위험속도를 낮춤으로써 진동에 취약한 구조를 가지게 된다. 회전체 진동 관련 규정 중 API 684 에서는 베어링 지지강성이 베어링 강성에 비해 3.5 배 이하인 경우 베어링 지지강성이 위험 속도 해석 모델에 포함되어야 함을 명시하고 있다. 산업 현장에서는 베어링 지지강성을 정확하게 산출하기 어려워 이를 고려하지 않고 회전체를 설계하는 경우가 많아 실제 조건에서 예측하지 못한 진동 문제가 발생할 가능성이 있다. 본 논문에서는 전동기 베어링 하우징 및 프레임에 대한 가진 시험을 통해 얻은 주파수 응답함수의 실수부를 분석하여 베어링 지지강성을 추출하는 방법을 제시하였다. 이를 바탕으로 유한요소 해석모델을 이용하여 베어링 지지강성을 해석적으로 예측하는 기법을 정립하였다. 추출된 베어링 지지강성을 축계 해석 모델에 포함하여 베어링 지지강성 포함 유무에 따른 축계 위험속도 및 안정성을 비교하였다. 그 결과 베어링 지지강성을 포함한 경우, 보다 정확한 위험속도 및 진동응답 수준을 예측할 수 있음을 확인하였다.

  • A higher order panel method based on B-spline representation for both the geometry and the velocity potential is developed for the solution of the flow around two-dimensional lifting bodies. The self-influence functions due to the normal dipole and the source are separated into the singular and nonsingular parts, and then the former is integrated analytically whereas the latter is integrated using Gaussian quadrature. A null pressure jump Kutta condition at the trailing edge is found to be effective in stabilizing the solution process and in predicting the correct solution. Numerical experiments indicate that the present method is robust and predicts the pressure distribution around lifting foils with much fewer panels than existing low order panel methods.

  • 국내의 댐·하천 설계기준은 다양한 수자원 시설물 설계 시에 활용되고 있으나, 강우사상에 대한 분석은 과거의 강우 사상에 대한 통계분석에 따라 수행되어 기후변화의 영향을 고려하지 않고 있다. 또한, 하천 설계기준에서는 홍수량 산정에 대한 방안을 명시한 바에 따르면, 홍수량 산정 표준지침에서 활용하는 빈도해석을 활용하는 방안 또는 강우-유출모형을 활용한 방안을 제시하고 있으나, 홍수량 산정 표준지침 역시 미래 강수 변화에 대한 구체적인 방안을 반영하지 않고 있는 실정이다. 전 세계적인 기후변화는 국내의 기후변동성을 증가시켜 극한강우사상의 빈도와 강도를 증대시키므로 이를 고려한 미래강우에 대한 분석이 필요한 시점이다. 일반적으로 기후 전망에 활용되는 전지구 모델(Global Climate Model; GCM)은 한반도의 복잡한 지형을 고려하기 어려우므로 지역적인 강제력을 보다 효과적으로 고려하기 위하여 지역기후모델(Regional Climate Model; RCM)을 사용하고 있다. 역학적으로 상세화 된 RCM은 비교적 고해상도의 자료를 제공하고 있으나, 강수량을 전반적으로 과소 추정하는 것으로 알려지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 지속시간 1-24시간 연최대 강우량(annual maximum rainfalls; AMRs)과 역학적 상세화 된 SSP 시나리오 일 자료를 활용하며, Copula 함수 기반의 상세화 모형을 통해 Sub-Daily 정보를 시간적으로 상세화 하였다. 최종적으로 이를 활용하여 미래 IDF 곡선을 유도하였다. 산정된 IDF 곡선 결과를 활용하여 기후변화의 영향을 고려한 설계강수량 변화량을 정량적으로 제시하고자 한다.

  • We present a methodology to design energy-efficient data paths using FPGAs. Our methodology integrates domain specific modeling, coarse-grained performance evaluation, design space exploration, and low-level simulation to understand the tradeoffs between energy, latency, and area. The domain specific modeling technique defines a high-level model by identifying various components and parameters specific to a domain that affect the system-wide energy dissipation. A domain is a family of architectures and corresponding algorithms for a given application kernel. The high-level model also consists of functions for estimating energy, latency, and area that facilitate tradeoff analysis. Design space exploration(DSE) analyzes the design space defined by the domain and selects a set of designs. Low-level simulations are used for accurate performance estimation for the designs selected by the DSE and also for final design selection We illustrate our methodology using a family of architectures and algorithms for matrix multiplication. The designs identified by our methodology demonstrate tradeoffs among energy, latency, and area. We compare our designs with a vendor specified matrix multiplication kernel to demonstrate the effectiveness of our methodology. To illustrate the effectiveness of our methodology, we used average power density(E/AT), energy/(area x latency), as themetric for comparison. For various problem sizes, designs obtained using our methodology are on average $25\%$ superior with respect to the E/AT performance metric, compared with the state-of-the-art designs by Xilinx. We also discuss the implementation of our methodology using the MILAN framework.

A Study of Periodic Solutions of Typical Relay Servo System (릴레이 제어기구 조기해법에 관한 연구)

  • A relay servo, one of the nonlinear sytsems, is inherently compact compared to a linear system for an equivalent control problem. The power element or actuator is not adjusted proportionally in accordance with an error signals but rather is switched abruptly between several discrete conditions. Usually switched conditions are off, full, forward or full reverse. The relay system is a particularly simple and compact one, but probably more effort has been expended on its analysis and design than on all other systems together. Early studies in the art were made by Goldfarb, austin, Oppelt and Kochenburger on the describing function method, which can be used as an approximate check on the stability of the system. The describing function method is based on the assumption that any periodic wave could be approximated as a fundamental one in wide ranges of practical applications. A relay servo system usually operates on a limit cycle condition as the loop gain increases. The stability analysis compensation or any improvement effort based on the describing function method sometimes may present considerable discrepancies on physically realized practical systems. An approach to exact periodic solutions of a relay servo system is much important for the analysis, design and system improvement. This paper dells with periodic solutions of a relay servo system on the basis of describing function and generalized chopper wave form which is composed of infinite number of harmonic series. Various ways of graphical representation were attempted to get periodic solutions, some of which have shown its validity in rapid approach to exact solutions and also in judgement of system behavior.

Congestion Control with Multiple Time Scale under Self-Similar Traffic (자기유사성 트래픽 조건에서 다중 시간 간격을 이용한 혼잡제어)

  • Measurement of network traffic have shown that the self-similarity is a ubiquitous phenomenon spanning across diverse network environments. In previous work, we have explored the feasibility of exploiting the long-range correlation structure in a self-similar traffic for the congestion control. We have advanced the framework of the multiple time scale congestion control and showed its effectiveness at enhancing performance for the rate-based feedback control. Our contribution is threefold. First, we define a modular extension of the TCP-a function called with a simple interface-that applies to various flavours of the TCP-e.g., Tahoe, Reno, Vegas and show that it significantly improves performance. Second, we show that a multiple time scale TCP endows the underlying feedback control with proactivity by bridging the uncertainty gap associated with reactive controls which is exacerbated by the high delay-bandwidth product in broadband wide area networks. Third, we investigate the influence of the three traffic control dimensions-tracking ability, connection duration, and fairness-on performance.
