Reforming of Hydrocarbon Fuel Using Water Jet Plasma (Water Jet 플라즈마를 이용한 탄화수소 연료 개질)

  • The purpose of this paper is to develop water jet plasma reactor and investigate the optimal condition of the syngas production by reforming of hydrocarbon fuel. Fuel used was propane and plasma was generated by arc discharge on water jet surface. Discharge slipping over the water surface has a number of advantages such as a source of short-wave and UV radiation, and it can be used for biological and chemical purification of water. Parametric screening studies were conducted, in which there were the variations of power ($0.18{\sim}0.74$ kW), water jet flow rate($38.4{\sim}65.6$ mL/min), electrode gap($5{\sim}15$ mm) and treatment time($2{\sim}20$ min). When the variations were 0.4 kW, 53.9 mL/min, 10 mm and 20 min respectively, result of maximum $H_2$ concentration was 61.6%, intermediates concentration were 6.1% and propane conversion rate was 99.8%.

  • Interfacial interactions and interphases played a key role in multicomponent materials irrespectively of the number and type of their components or their actual structure. They were equally important in particulate filled polymer, polymer blends, fibers-reinforced advanced composites, nanocomposites or biomimetic materials. Recognition of the role of the main factors influencing interfacial adhesion and proper surface modification could lead to significant progress in many fields of research and development, as well as in related technologies. Although the role and importance of interfaces and interphases were the same for all multicomponent materials, the surface modification could be always selected according to the objectives targeted, as well as to the characteristics of the particular system. In this wort therefore, several types of surface modification were performed to improve the interfacial interactions between two components in composite system and their results for the composites were investigated.

  • Visibility preprocessing is a useful method to reduce the complexity of scenes to be processed in real-time, and so enhances the overall rendering performance for interactive visualization of virtual environments. In this paper, we propose an efficient visibility preprocessing method. In the proposed method, we assume that navigatable areas in virtual environments are partitioned into rectangular parallelpiped cells or sub-worlds. To preprocess the visibility of each polygon for a given partitioned cell, we should determine at least the area-to-area visibility. This is inherently a four-dimensional problem. We efficiently express four-dimensional visibility information on two-dimensional spaces and keep it within a ternary tree, which is conceptually similar to a BSP(Binary Space Partitioning) tree, by exploiting the characteristics of conservative visibility. The proposed method is able to efficiently handle more general environments like urban scenes, and remove invisible polygons jointly blocked by multiple occluders. The proposed method requires O(nm) time and O(n+m) space. By selecting a suitable value for m, users can select a suitable level of trade-off between the preprocessing time and the quality of the computational result.

Drying Shrinkage of Concretes according to Different Volume-Surface Ratios and Aggregate Types (형상비 및 골재의 종류에 따른 콘크리트 시편의 건조수축특성 연구)

  • This study was performed to investigate the characteristics of drying shrinkage for concrete slabs as a project for Korean pavement design procedure. According to the volume-surface ratios and aggregate types, the experiments have been executed for 252 days. In order to simulate the volume-surface ratio of a real concrete pavement slab, three-layer epoxy coating and wrapping were used to prevent the evaporation at the part of specimen surfaces. As a result of preliminary test, coating and wrapping method was identified as reliable for three months. According to the volume-surface ratio, the drying shrinkage of the concrete specimen using sandstone was measured 1.32 to 1.8 times higher than that of the limestone specimen. Comparing to the measured drying shrinkage strains and established ACI and CEB-FIP model equations, it turned out that those model equations were underestimated. Finally, considering the age and volume-surface ratios, the prediction equations of the drying shrinkage of concrete specimen were proposed through a multiple nonlinear regression analysis.

  • A fuzzy inference technique for real-time textile animation without integration at textile model based Mass-Spring model is introduced. Until now many techniques have used the Mass-Spring model to describe elastically deformable objects like textile. A textile object is able to represent as a deformable surface composed of spring and masses, the movement of textile surface which is analysed through the numerical integration by the fundamental law of dynamics such as Hooke's law. However, the integration methods have 'instability problems' if the explicit Euler's method is applied or 'large amounts of calculation' if the implicit Euler's method is applied. A simple and fast animation technique for Mass-Spring model of a textile with fuzzy inference is proposed. The stabilized simulation result is obtained the state of each mass-point in real-time for the n of mass-points by a relatively simple calculation.

  • Recently, it is gradually raised necessity that thickness of thin film is measured accuracy and managed in industrial circles and medical world. Ultrasonic signal processing method is likely to become a very powerful method for NDE method of detection of microdefects and thickness measurement of thin film below the limit of ultrasonic distance resolution in the opaque materials, provides useful information that cannot be obtained by a conventional measuring system. In the present research. considering a thin film below the limit of ultrasonic distance resolution sandwiched between three substances as acoustical analysis model, demonstrated the usefulness of ultrasonic signal processing technique using information of ultrasonic frequency for NDE of measurements of thin film thickness. Accordingly, for the detection of delamination between the junction condition of boundary microdefect of thin film sandwiched between three substances the results from digital image processing.

Bonding Quality of Cylindrical LVL and Surface Durability by Its Painting (원통형 단판적층재의 접착성 및 도장처리에 따른 표면내구성)

  • In order to develop the end use of cylindrical laminated veneer lumber (LVL) such as wooden crafts, the water proof-bonding strength, the resistance to abrasion and the surface hardness by painting the surface of LVL were investigated. The study results were as follows; The water proof-bonding strength through 5 cyclic test by boiling in water immersion and drying were favorable without delamination of glue line. Then the formulation of glue was resorcinol resin (100) to hardener of paraformaldehyde (5) by mixed weight percentage. The resistance to abrasion was relatively higher at cross section than tangential section. When tangential section of LVL was painted by UV protection oil, the resistance to abrasion was improved. In case of an cross section of LVL, the higher surface hardness appeared at larch core than radiata pine LVL. Also, in case of an tangential section of LVL, the higher surface hardness appeared at glue line than veneer side.

Prediction of Thermo-mechanical Behavior for CNT/epoxy Composites Using Molecular Dynamics Simulation (분자동역학 시뮬레이션을 이용한 CNT/에폭시 복합재의 열기계적 거동 예측)

  • In this paper, molecular dynamics (MD) simulation was carried to predict thermo-mechanical behaviors for carbon nanotube (CNT) reinforced epoxy composites and to analyze the trends. Total of six models having the volume fractions of CNT from 0 to 25% in epoxy were constructed. To predict thermal behaviors, temperature was increased constantly from 300 to 600 K, and the glass transition temperature ($T_g$) and coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) analyzed using the relationship between temperature and specific volume. The elastic moduli that represented to the mechanical behaviors were also predicted by constant strain. Additionally, the effects of functionalization of CNT on mechanical behaviors of composite were analyzed. Models were constructed to represent CNTs functionalized by nitrogen doping and COOH groops, and interfacial behaviors and elastic moduli were analyzed. Results showed that the agglomerations of CNTs in epoxy cause by perturbations of thermo-mechanical behaviors, and the functionalization of CNTs improved the interfacial response as well as mechanical properties.

A Study on the Chemical Treatments Suitable for the Simple Mechanical Manipulation During the Recycling Process of FRP Waste from Ships (폐 선박의 FRP를 재활용 과정에서 용이한 기계적 조작을 위한 화학적 처리 방법에 관한 연구)

  • As one of the methods for recycling the FRP from the small and medium waste ships, separation of roving layer from the mat has some merits in a sense of the recycling energy and the environmental effects. Similar characteristics, however, between the roving and the mat even with different ratio of the resin and the glass and the thickness of the roving, much thinner than the mat, make the mechanically automatic differentiation difficult. In this study spectrochemical differentiation between the two layers has been made using (1) boiling concentrated sulfuric acid which can dissolve the resin in the FRP layer, (2) methanol and isopropanol solution saturated with KOH which can dissolve the glass, or (3) hydrogen fluoride(HF) solution which can reacts with $SiO_2$ fragments of the glass. Furthermore coloring water-soluble dye following the HF treatment makes the roving layer more distinguishable photo-physically.

Effects of ATP on Regulatory Volume Decrease in Mouse Cholangiocytes (ATP가 마우스 담관세포의 세포크기 조절에 미치는 영향)

  • Although the adenosine triphosphate (ATP) efflux pathway is thought to play a major regulatory role in RVD in some cells, including cholangiocarcinoma cells, the role of ATP in regulatory volume decrease (RVD) of normal cholangiocytes is not well defined. Thus, this study was conducted to investigate the role of extra cellular ATP and ATP pathways of BDCCs isolated from normal mice. Changes in cell volume of BDCCs were indirectly assessed by measurement of the cross-sectional area (CSA) by quantitative videomicroscopy. The relative CSA of BDCCs from normal mice increased with hypotonic maneuver to $1.20{\pm}0.02$ (n=20) within 10 min, but decreased to $1.06{\pm}0.03$ at 40 min. Administration of ATP, ATP hydrolase apyrase or the P2 receptor blocker suramin during RVD had no significant effects compared with untreated controls. In addition, treatment with the PKC inhibitors, Bisindolamide I and Ro 31-8220, during RVD had no significant effects when compared with untreated controls. These results indicate that unlike the results from cholangiocarcinoma cells, ATP plays no significant role in the RVD of normal mouse cholangiocytes.
