  • The instruction based on mass production system has contributed to the materialistic abundance, but it caused the innate target of education, development of 'holistic human beings' to be lost. Accordingly, the mentoring has been highlighted as an alternative instructional method because it can support learners in the aspect of cognitive and affective domain. On the other hand, as an effort of overcoming time and place constraints of face-to-face mentoring, e-mentoring is being required. This research aims to propose the e-mentoring system design plan for guiding learning after school, which may support face-to-face mentoring. Based on literature reviews, the direction of design was set and the necessary functions were drawn. e-Mentoring system design plan proposed in this article may be helpful to practitioners who are interested in the enhancement of effectiveness and efficiency of mentoring programs. Also it is required that more practical study should be performed for developing the system and testing its effectiveness.

  • This study examines the influence of mentoring function on major adaptation of university students in a fashion related department and identifies the moderating role of self-efficacy and mentor competence on the effectiveness of a fashion mentoring function. Questionnaire data were gathered from 266 university students in a fashion related department with previous experience in a mentoring program. The results showed that the psychosocial function, sensitivity developmental function, and the fashion career developmental function had a positive impact on the department adaptation (adaptation for professor and adaptation for learning). In addition, there were moderating effects of self-efficacy on the influence of the fashion career developmental function on professor adaptation and the moderating effects of mentor competence on the influence of the sensitivity developmental function on professor adaptation. The results of this study provide various guidelines for professors or administrators of fashion related departments who are interested in mentoring systems.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of a mentoring program designed to assist nursing students adjust to life in college and strengthen their leadership abilities. The mentoring program consisted of nine sessions including information on basic mentorship functions, as well as the results of similar previous studies. This was a quasi-experimental study with a non-equivalent control group pre-post test design in order to evaluate the results of this program. Mentoring and data collection were performed from March 3 to May 30, 2014. The experimental group participants included 20 mentee students (in grades 1 and 2), and 20 mentors (in grades 3 and 4). Both pre and post tests were administered before and after the mentoring program. The score for "adjust to life in college" was more significantly increased in the mentee student experimental group as compared with the control group. Similarly, the post test score for "leadership" was more significantly increased from the pre test score in the mentor student experimental group. However, no statistically significant differences were found for the post-pre test "leadership" score between the mentor student experimental group and the control group. These results suggested that mentoring had a significant effect on the ability of nursing students to adjust to life in college, as well as to strengthen their leadership abilities, and the program needs more developed contents for leadership.

  • This study investigates the moderating effects of corporate mentoring on the relationship between entrepreneurship and start-up satisfaction. The research was designed to examine a direct relationship between the entrepreneurship on the start-up satisfaction. In addition, indirect impacts of corporate mentoring on the relationship between entrepreneurship and start-up satisfaction. Data was collected by distributing questionnaires through e-mail or direct visit to the participating companies in the Start-up Leading University Project, college start-up clubs, companies in university business incubating centers, and general entrepreneurs in Busan and Gyeongnam areas. Empirical data was then analyzed using the SPSS 18.0 statistical program. The results reveal that such categories as innovation and autonomy in entrepreneurship have a direct positive effect on entrepreneurial satisfaction and the corporate mentoring has a moderating effect only when autonomy has a direct positive effect on start-up satisfaction. It is implied that an improvement of start-up satisfaction may be attained only when mentoring programs are well accepted by entrepreneurs and their workers while working in a free and autonomous environment with a flexible corporate culture. This study may provide the theoretical and practical implications for start-up support organizations such as start-up support groups of Start-Up Leading University Project.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the mentoring function and its levels as perceived by the fashion merchandisers and designers in the fashion industry who are playing major roles in providing organizational socialization for mentees. A survey questionnaire was developed and conducted among 200 fashion merchandisers and designers in Seoul. For data analysis, the SPSS 10.0 program was employed and frequency analysis, factor analysis, reliability analysis, correlation analysis, recurrence analysis, T-test, and ANOVA were used to test the research questions. The results were as follows: (1) Although the overall level of the mentoring function recognized by the fashion merchandisers and designers in the study appeared to be high, there were no significant differences by their demographic attributes. (2) The level of the mentoring function acknowledged by the respondents demonstrated substantial differences according to their perception by the personal attributes and the degree of openness. (3) The level of the mentoring function and organizational socialization perceived by the respondents had a significant correlation. As the level of perceived mentoring function of the respondents increased, it appeared that the degree of their job satisfaction and organizational commitment increased. On the other hand, their role ambiguity and turnover intention decreased.
