Implementation and Performance Evaluation of a Scheduling Algorithm for Real -Time Service in Internet (인터넷에서 실시간 서비스를 위한 스케쥴링 알고리즘의 구현 및 성능 평가)

  • 인터넷의 급속한 확산과 함께, 보다 나은 품질의 실시간, 멀티미디어 통신 서비스가 요구되고 있다. 하지만 인터넷은 모든 트래픽에 대해서 최선형 서비스만을 제공하기 때문에 모든 트래픽은 동일한 서비스 품질을 가지게 되므로 이러한 요구를 만족시킬 수 없다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해서 분류자, 패킷 스케쥴러, 수락 제어로 구현된 트래픽 제어부를 이용하는 인터넷 종합 서비스 모델이 제시되었다. 본 논문에서는 SCFQ(Self-Clocked Fair Queueing)스케쥴링 알고리즘을 사용한 라우터를 구현하였고, 실험을 통하여 실시간 트래픽의 성능을 분석하였다. 분석을 위해 기존의 인터넷 환경에서의 실시간 트래픽의 지연과 처리율을 측정하였고, 이를 스케쥴링 알고리즘이 구현된 시스템과 비교하였다.

  • 본 연구는 멀티미디어 서비스를 무선 ATM 환경에서 지원하기 위한 WATM MAC프로토콜을 제안하였다. 무선 환경에서는 값비싼 무선 자원을 효율적으로 사용하여 ATM 서비스가 요구하는 QoS를 만족시키는 것이 중요하다. 특히 대역폭의 사용이 가변적인 비디오 트레픽의 경우는 유연한 대역폭 할당 기능이 있어야 한다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 VBR과 CBR을 구분하여 제어하는 셀 스케쥴링 방식을 제안하였다. 이때 VBR 트레픽은 GCRA 알고리즘을 사용하여 가변적인 트레픽 요구를 만족시키도록 하였따. 제안된 제어 기법의 성능을 알아보기 위해 모의 실험을 통하여 성능을 평가하였다.

  • We present a new MDA-based Mobile-IPv6 multicast routing algorithm for wirelese service operators to offer Mobile-IP over IMT-2000 service under IMT-2000 network by taking advantage of the existing infrastructure for IMT-2000 multimedia application services. The extended IMT-2000 system architectures use an PDSNs (i.e. IWFs), and the home network (i.e. Internet) backbone and intermediate network are composed of ATM entities. A key feature of the new protocol is the use of MDA(Multicast Delivery Agent) to reduce delivery path length of the multicast datagram. We show that proposed protocol is efficient in terms of various performance measures such as multicast traffic load, multicast related handoff, and average routing length when we implement it using the Mobile-IPv6. Particularly, the number of tunneling and average routing length of datagram are reduced relatively, the multicast traffic load is also decreased.

  • 무선 이동 통신망은 기존의 음성위주로 제공되던 단일 미디어 서비스의 제공으로부터 발전되어 2000년대 초까지 이동 사용자에게 고품질의 멀티미디어 데이타 서비스를 제공하고, 장소에 제한을 받지 않고 서비스를 제공받을 수 있도록 하는 IMT-2000을 실현을 목표로 발전하고 있다. 또한 다수의 서비스 사용자와 광대역의 데이타를 전송하기 위해서 셀의 반경은 점차로 축소되고 있다. 이에 따라서, 사용자의 위치등록과 핸드오버와 같은 처리에 대한 부하가 커지게 되었다. 그러므로 무선 이동통신에서 서비스 이용자에게 일정 수준 이상의 QoS를 보장해 주기 위해서 효율적인 핸드오버 알고리즘의 도입은 매우 중요한 문제가 되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 IMT-2000환경에서 보다 효율적인 QoS를 서비스 사용자에게 제공해 줄 수 있도록 하기 위해 다양한 이동체의 속도와 멀티미디어 트래픽 특성을 동시에 고려하여 신뢰성 있는 핸드오버를 제공하는 H-PS(Hybrid-Priority Scheme)알고리즘을 제안하고 시뮬레이션을 통해 성능을 분석한다.Abstract Wireless mobile communications is developed from the only single voice traffic sevice to multimedia sevices. And mobile communications will evolve IMT-2000, which is provide users with high quality multimedia services. A radius of cell is gradually reduced to accept many service users and transport the multimedia traffics. Therefore, a overhead of location tracking and handover processing are increased. Then to guarantee high QoS to service users in wireless mobile communications, efficient handover algorithm is very important issue.In this study, we propose a H-PS(Hybrid-Priority Scheme) handover scheme considering mobility and traffic characteristics in IMT-2000 networks. And performance evaluate using simulation.

Control Method of BIFS Contents for Mobile Devices with Restricted Input Key (제한적 키 입력을 갖는 휴대 단말에서의 BIFS 콘텐츠 제어방법)

  • T-DMB is using MPEG-4 BIFS standard format for broadcasting interactive data service. BIFS enables us to represent contents as a scene which consists of various objects such as AV, image, graphic, and text. It also enables us to control objects by using user interaction. BIFS was designed to be adapted to multimedia systems with various input devices. Today, however, we are in lack of considering about mobile device with restricted input unit. The problem is that a consistent user control of interactive data contents is not possible due to the limitations of input units in T-DMB terminals. To solve the problem, we defined KeyNavigator node that provides a means to select or navigate objects (like menu) in BIFS contents by arrow keys and enter key of mobile terminal. By using KeyNavigater node, not only BIFS contents providers can make BIFS contents as they want, but also users can get a way to control BIFS contents consistently and easily.

Design of the Upstream Cable Modem for Symmetric Multimedia Services over HFC Networks (HFC망 기반 대칭형 멀티미디어 서비스를 위한 상향 채널 케이블 모뎀 설계)

  • We propose and design the algorithms of symbol timing recovery, carrier recovery, and equalization for the receiver of S-DMT cable modem, which supports more channels and better symmetric mutimedia services over HFC network. We evaluate the performance of the concatenated entire receiving system of 16QAM, 64QAM in the mixed noise channel of AWGN, ISI and impulse. The result of evaluation shows those algorithms work correctly and designed S-DMT receiver has good performance. We also verify the designed system has excellent immunity against impulse noise channel of practical Cable TV networks by the result of simulation with the parameters of impulse internal $\varepsilon$ and noise power $\gamma^{k}$.

  • Due to the prevalence of various mobile devices and wireless broadband networks, there has been a significant increase in interest and demand for multimedia streaming services. Moreover, the user can service the participatory video broadcasting service in the mobile device and it can be used to deliver the real-time news and more variety information in the user side. Live multimedia service of user participation should consider not only the video quality but also the delay bounds and continuity of video playback for improving the user perceived QoS (Quality of Service) of streaming service. In this paper, we propose an adaptive rate control scheme, called DeBuG (Delay Bounds Guaranteed), to guarantee the delay bounds and continuity of video playback for the real-time streaming in mobile devices. In order to provide those, the proposed scheme has a quality adaptation function based on the transmission buffer status and network status awareness. It also has a selective frame dropper, which is based on the media priority, before the transmission video frames. The simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed scheme.

  • Recently, it is important to process multimedia data efficiently. Especially, in case of retrieval of multimedia information, technique of user interface and retrieval technique are necessary. This paper proposes a new technique which detects cuts effectively in compressed image information by MPEG. A cut is a turning point of scenes. The cut-detection is the basic work and the first-step for video indexing and retrieval. Existing methods have a weak point that they detect wrong cuts according to change of a screen such as fast motion of an object, movement of a camera and a flash. Because they compare between previous frame and present frame. The proposed technique detects shots at first using DC(Direct Current) coefficient of DCT(Discrete Cosine Transform). The database is composed of these detected shots. Features are extracted by HMMD color model and edge histogram descriptor(EHD) among the MPEG-7 visual descriptors. And detections are performed in sequence by the proposed matching technique. Through this experiments, an improved video segmentation system is implemented that it performs more quickly and precisely than existing techniques have.

A BIFS Generation Module in an MPEG-4 Authoring System (MPEG-4저작 시스템에서 BIFS생성 모듈)

  • Though BIFS is a complex description language that represents MPEG-4 content as text or bit streams, most traditional MPEG-4 content authoring tools are developed for a BIFS expert. Before using these tools, many authors must invest much time and energy in acquiring knowledge of BIFS. In this paper, we suggest a new manner for saving these efforts. Our proposal supplies the convenient user interface of traditional multimedia authoring tools for MPEG-4 authors and interprets the authored information and transforms it into BIFS. In our user interface, the author generates the minimal authoring information requested for generating BIFS; the BIFS generation module then transforms the information into BIFS format using predefined BIFS construction rules. The resulting BIFS consists of the Scene Tree and the Object Descriptor and Route; they are used for constructing MP4 standard files by mixing with the Elementary Stream.

A Scheme for News Videos based on MPEG-7 and Its Summarization Mechanism by using the Key-Frames of Selected Shot Types (MPEG-7을 기반으로 한 뉴스 동영상 스키마 및 샷 종류별 키프레임을 이용한 요약 생성 방법)

  • Recently, there have been a lot of researches to develop an archive system for news videos that usually has a fixed structure. However, since the meta-data representation and storing schemes for news video are different from each other in the previously proposed archive systems, it was very hard to exchange these meta-data. This paper proposes a scheme for news video based on MPEG-7 MDS that is an international standard to represent the contents of multimedia, and a summarization mechanism reflecting the characteristics of shots in the news videos. The proposed scheme for news video uses the MPEG-7 MDS schemes such as VideoSegment and TextAnnotation to keep the original structure of news video, and the proposed summarization mechanism uses a slide-show style presentation of key frames with associated audio to reduce the data size of the summary video.
