Implementation of A Web-based Virtual Laboratory For Digital Logic Circuits Using Multimedia (멀티미디어를 이용한 웹기반 디지털 논리회로 가상실험실의 구현)

  • Recently, according to the appearance of various virtual websites using multimedia technologies, the internet applications in engineering education have drawn muchinterests. But unidirectional communication, simple text/image-based webpages and tedious learning process without motivation, etc. have made the lowering of educational efficiency in cyberspace. This paper presents a virtual laboratory system which can be creating efficiencies in the learning process. The proposed virtual laboratory system for digital logic circuits provides interactive learning environment under which the multimedia capabilities of world-wide web can be enhanced. The virtual laboratory system is implemented to describe the on-campus laboratory, the learners can obtain similar experimental data through it. The virtual laboratory system is composed of four important components : principle classroom, simulation classroom, virtual experiment classroom and management system. Learning efficiencies as well as faculty productivity are increased in this innovative teaching and learning environment.

Scheduling for Guaranteeing QoS of Continuous Multimedia Traffic (연속적 멀티미디어 트래픽의 서비스 질 보장을 위한 스케쥴링)

  • Many of multimedia applications in distributed environments generate the packets which have the real-time characteristics for continuous audio/video data and transmit them according to the teal-time task scheduling theories. In this paper, we model the traffic for continuous media in the distributed multimedia applications based on the high-bandwidth networks and introduce the PDMA algorithm which is the hard real-time task scheduling theory for guaranteeing QoS requested by the clients. Furthermore, we propose the admission control to control the new request not to interfere the current services for maintaining the high quality of services of the applications. Since the proposed admission control is sufficient for the PDMA algorithm, the PDMA algorithm is always able to find the feasible schedule for the set of messages which satisfies it. Therefore, if the set of messages including the new request to generate the new traffic. Otherwise, it rejects the new request. In final, we present the simulation results for showing that the scheduling with the proposed admission control is of practical use.

  • 최근 다자간 영상 회의, 주문형 비디오, 원격 진단 시스템 등과 같이 영상 정보를 송.수신하는 멀티미디어 서비스의 개발이 활발해짐에 따라, 기존의 인터넷상에서 데이터를 저장하고 전달하는 방식이 제공하는 최선형 서비스만으로는 사용자들이 요구하는 실시간 멀티미디어 응용 서비스들을 제대로 지원할 수 없게 되었다. 따라서 네트워크 사용자들에 의해 점차적으로 종단간의 QoS에 대한 관심이 고조되고 있다. 이에 본 논문에서는 이더넷 환경에서 종합 서비스 모델(Intergrated Service Model)로 제안된 지역 망에서 유용하게 사용될 수 있는 자원 예약 프로토콜인 RSVP의 성능을 분석하였다. 이를 기반으로 인터넷망에서 차별화 된 서비스 품질을 제공할 수 있는 차등화 서비스(Differentiated Service)와의 연동 모델을 향후 연구과제로 제시하고자 한다.

  • 인터넷의 사용자가 증가함에 따라 다양한 서비스가 요구된다 다자간 회의 시스템 역시 다양한 서비스 제공의 일부분으로 많은 연구가 진행되고 있다. VoIP 프로토콜인 SIP(Session Initiation Protocol)는 기본적으로 다자간 멀티미디어 컨퍼런싱을 지원한다. 그러나 현재는 인터넷 전화 등 주로 1:1 호설정에 이용되고 있다. 이를 위해 SiP에 다자간 회의 시스템을 적용하기 위하여 새로운 메소드 및 헤더의 확장, 나아가 다자간 회의 시스템 모델 정의등이 요구되어진다. 본 논문은 다자간 회의 시스템 모델 표준을 소개하고 이를 기초로 효율적인 Conference Server를 제시한다. 설계된 Conference Server는 유효한 리소스의 관리 및 처리를 위해 접속 풀링(Connection Pooling)개념을 적용하여 컨퍼런싱에 참여하는 사용자의 요구를 신속하게 처리할 수 있도록 하였으며 QoS Selector를 두어 사용자의 자원에 맞는 서비스를 보장할 수 있게 하여 효율성을 높였다.

A Study on MOT Protocol for multimedia Service on Digital Audio Broadcasting Network (DAB망에서 멀티미디어 서비스를 위한 MOT 프로토콜 성능 최적화 방안에 관한 연구)

  • Nowadays, as digital technologies are rapidly developed and requirements for the various types of broadband multimedia services increases, the radio broadcasting is moving to digitalization. DAB(Digital Audio Broadcasting), as an alternation of existing analog radio broadcasting, is a new type of multimedia broadcasting system. DAB supports not only high-quality audio broadcasting but also various types of multimedia data services. In this paper, we investigate the performance optimization method of MOT Protocol, as the standard for additional services, to support the multimedia services in the DAB network. Because the performance of the MOT protocol is dependent on various parameters such as segment size, segment repetition and so on, we find those by simulation for performance optimization. According to simulation results, the suitable segment size is about 2Kbyte and segment repetition is 4 times for performance optimization.

  • We propose BMPA(balanced multimedia packet allocation) scheme. This scheme considers the issue of optimal sub-carrier allocation in OFDMA multicast system. When RT(real time) packets and NRT(non-real time) packets arrive at the same time, BMPA scheme gives higher weight to RT packets than NRT packets and then, it allocates sub-carriers according to the total weight sum of packets in each user. This process acts as both packet scheduler and sub-carrier allocation. Therefore, each user receives multimedia packets with reliability. With simulation results, it shows that BMPA scheme ensures long-term system throughput and, in average RT packet delay, BMPA scheme greatly outperforms multi-user water-filling algorithm.

  • Several caching schemes for realtime multimedia systems have been proposed, but they focus only on increasing the hit ratio without providing any means to utilize the saved disk bandwidth due to cache hits. One of the most important metrics in multimedia systems is the number of clients that the systems can service simultaneously guaranteeing Quality of Service(QoS). Preemptive but Safe Interval Caching(PSIC) was proposed as a caching scheme which makes it possible to provide deterministic QoS.. However, it has no ability to adapt to the change of system environments since it has no mechanism to change the cache size. In this paper, we present a new caching scheme, Dynamic Interval Caching(DIC), which maximizes the performance, regardless of the change of system environments, providing hiccup-free service, by managing memory buffers dynamically. And it is demonstrated that DIC allocates buffer cache optimally, by comparing with PSIC through trace-driven simulations.

  • This paper deals with our experience for the design and implementation of Transport and Session managers in the Integrated Streaming Service Architecture (IS SA) that was developed by the authors. The ISSA is a streaming framework that allows to develop integrated multimedia streaming applications such as VOD system in unicast/multicast and real-time broadcastOive-cast). It also facilities standard real-time transport protocols such as RTp(Real-Time Transport Protocol)/RTCP(Real-time Control Protocol) and RTSP(Real-Time Streaming ProtocoD that allows to user openness. The ISSA supports diverse media fonnats and is independent from underlying networks and operating systems, and compatible with the global real-time multimedia database system (BeeHive) so that streaming media are efficiently retrieved, stored, and serviced. The role of the Transport Manager is to do packetization and depacketization for the different types of multimedia data and delivers the packetized media data in real-time. The Transport Manager uses RTP protocol. The role of the Session Manager is to establish and control the media channel by using RTSP protocol and to deliver the database transactions for the multimedia database by using RTTP(Real-Time Transaction Protocol) protocol. Both the Transport and Session Manager are doing their functions through the network interface in the ISSA that allows developers to various network programming interfaces and provides flexibility to the system.

  • UPnP AV Framework automatically integrates and manages various AV devices that are connected to network as an important component in home network. Therefore, user can access and control AV contents at any time. But, other existing home entertainment systems target multimedia service support that is based on multimedia home server system. In this paper, we propose an integrated home entertainment system (u-MUSE system) that supports remote control service. It can manage application in remote AV device or control AV contents directly in home network environment. The proposed system sufficiently performs role of control center for electronic devices in home via integrated system control and AV contents playback service.

  • 디스크배열 또는 RAID 시스템은 저렴한 비용으로 대용량 저장공간을 제공할 수 있으나, VOD 서비스와 같은 대규모 멀티미디어 서비스에 대해서는 아직 충분한 입출력 속도를 지원하지 못하고 있다. 보다 높은 대역폭을 지원하기 위해 다수의 디스크 컨트롤러를 채용한 다중 디스크배열에서 스트라이프를 전체 디스크에 효과적으로 분산시키기 위한 수직 스트라이핑 모델이 이용되고 있다. VOD 서비스 이용자가 고품질의 동영상을 감상하기 위해서는, 응용프로그램이 요청한 마감시간까지 저장장치에 기록되어 있는 데이터를 읽어와야 한다. 본 논문에서는 효과적이 VOD 서비스 지원을 위해, 다중 디스크배열에서 각 디스크 컨트롤러의 지역 요청큐로 분산된 입출력 요청들을 스케쥴링하여 마감시간 초과율(deadline miss rate)을 줄이기 위한 알고리즘을 제안한다. 이 알고리즘은 VOD 서버와 같이 데이터 읽기 작업이 많은 멀티미디어 서비스에 적합하도록 설계되었다. 시뮬레이션 결과, 제안된 알고리즘이 마감시간 초과율을 평균 41.5% 감소시킴을 알 수 있었다.
