The purpose of this paper is to make a study on the characterization of multimedia phenomena and to analyse the tendency of multimedia services and market. At first, various definitions of multimedia and the basis of multimedia services are analysed and evaluated from the point of economical, technical, and practical views. After that the expert survey to estimate an accurate tendency of multimedia services in Germany is analysed and the state of development in the field of multimedia database in Korea is investigated. Upon the results of these analysis and evaluation, the economical and managerial interests are described.

이동통신 망에서 효율적으로 멀티미디어 서비스를 전송하는 것은 차세대 이동통신 시스템 개발을 위한 중요한 이슈이다. 특히, 셀 부하와 무선 링크의 에러율 때문에 멀티미디어 서비스의 전송 동안 QoS 저하가 발생한다면, 전송 지연 및 패킷 손실에 의하여 QoS를 보장할 수 없으므로, 멀티미디어 서비스의 연속성을 유지하기 위한 QoS 보장 기술이 필요하다. 본 논문은 이동통신 시스템에서 멀티미디어 서비스의 QoS를 보장하기 위한 방법을 제안한다. 멀티미디어 서비스의 전송 중 QoS 보장하기 위한 방안을 제안하고 각 모듈간의 상관관계를 갖는 순서도를 기술한다.

본 논문에서는 최근 인터넷이 직면하고 있는 용량과 속도 저하와 같은 여러 가지 문제점을 해결하고, ATM 기반의 초고속 정보통신망의 이용을 활성화하기 위해 ATM 망을 하부구조로 하는 연동게이트웨이 시스템의 구조와 기능을 정의한다. 그리고 연동게이트 시스템의 서비스 브로커 기능을 통해 멀티미디어 서비스 컨탠츠 사용자가 선택함으로써 사용자에게 보다 광범위하고 다양한 서비스를 제공받을 수 있는 기회를 부여하고, 서비스 제공자에게는 서비스 경쟁력을 향상시킬 수 있는 방안을 모색하였다.

본 논문에서는 세션 관리 기술, 네트워크 제어 기술, 동시성 제어 기술, 미디어 제어 기술 중에서 식품 안전 서비스를 위한 IP-USN 기반의 멀티미디어 응용 개발 프레임워크에서 네스티드 세션의 미디어 객체 제어에 대하여 기술한다. 네스티드 세션이란 하나의 부모 세션 아래에 여러 개의 자식 세션이 존재하는 것을 말한다. 제안하고자 하는 미디어 제어는 식품 안전 서비스를 위한 IP-USN 기반의 멀티미디어 응용 개발 프레임워크에서 미디어를 하나의 메시지로 취급한다.

차세대 이동 멀티미디어 통신망의 IMT-2000에서 음성뿐만 아니라 데이타, 화상, 비디오와 같은 멀티미디어 서비스를 지원하기 위해서는, QoS를 보다 효과적으로 보장할수 있는 방안이 필요하다. 본 연구에서는 핸드오프 시에 멀티미디어 서비스의 QoS를 보장하기 위한 방안의 하나로서 이동체 위치 추정에 기반을 둔 채널관리 기법인 FTC+DE를 제안한다. 시뮬레이션 결과에 의하면 제안 방법은 핸드오프 호의 블록킹율을 줄임으로서 멀티미디어 서비스의 QoS를 보다 효과적으로 유지할 수 있음이 확인되었다.

Multimedia service whose use is rapidly increasing supports effective services to convert and transmit multimedia data based on network speed, noise circumstance, terminal computation, and type of contents for satisfying QoS. For supporting information protection of multimedia service, it offers middle level of singular security service or security mechanism which is based on policy of service provider, depending on present terminal computation and type of contents. It can support security mechanism for more effective multimedia service, if we study security of application layer and network layer for supporting multimedia service. In this paper, we propose Multimedia security framework reflected on quantitative analysis of the WLAN(Wireless Local Area Network) mesh network security using the utility function in the level of the sorority, violation and addictive compensation model.

정보 사회로의 빠른 성장으로 인해 기존의 단대단 서비스를 넘어서 다양한 요구 사항들이 제시되고 있다. 특히 다자간 멀티미디어 서비스를 제공하기 위한 멀티캐스트 방식은 좋은 예가 될 것이다. 이를 위해 현재 고정 IP에 기반한 다양한 멀티캐스트 방식들이 제안되고 있는 실정이다. 그러나 유선에서 무선으로 그 통신 범위가 확대되면서, Mobile IP에 기반한 멀티캐스트 서비스를 고려하지 않을 수 없다. 또한, 원격 호스트에서 서비스를 제공해야 하므로, 지불 관련 인증 서비스 및 사용자 익명성이 동시에 제공되어야 한다. 본 논문에서는 Mobile IP상에서 멀티캐스트를 수행할 경우, 그룹원의 인증 및 익명성을 제공할 수 있는 새로운 메커니즘을 제시한다.

본 논문에서는 CORBA 환경 하에서 멀티미디어 스트림을 효율적으로 처리하고 제어하기 위한 멀티미디어 스트림 통신 서비스의 설계와 구현에 관한 내용을 기술한다. 제안하는 멀티미디어 스트림 통신 서비스에서는 멀티미디어 스트림의 효율적인 처리와 제어 그리고 전송을 위한 소프트웨어 구성 요소들을 분산 객체들로 설계한다. 그리고 제어 데이터와 미디어 데이터의 전송 경로를 분리하여 미디어 데이터의 전송은 RTP(Realtime Transport Protocol)로 직접적으로 전송하므로서 멀티미디어 스트림의 전송 효율을 최적화한다. 우리는 멀티미디어 스트림 통신을 위한 분산 객체들 간의 연결설정과 제어 절차를 보여주며, 테스트 시스템을 구축하여 성능을 평가한다 성능 평가 결과 연결 설정 지연은 TCP 연결에 비해 다소 지연을 가지나, 미디어 데이터의 전송은 CORBA 의 IIOP 프로토콜에 비해 최적화된 성능을 보여준다.

본고에서는 아시아 지역의 전기통신사업자, 인터넷서비스 제공자, 기타 정보제공자 및 이용자들간의 멀티미디어 응용서비스개발, 망과 관련서비스의 상호수용, 멀티미디어 플랫폼 구축 등을 통한 멀티미디어 서비스의 활성화를 위해 1997년 6월 설립된 AMF(Asian Multimedia Forum)에 대해 소개하고 AMF 표준화활동 및 연구동향에 대해 약술하고자 한다.

Recently, a demand of adaptive multimedia service, which supports multimedia service migration according to user's location and characteristics of user device, is increased. In this paper, we propose a service migration system, which becomes aware of user device using intelligent agent. And we design and implement the ontology-based intelligent agent, which is aware of the context in its environment. Moreover, we implement a context reasoning system using location information.
