  • WAM(WAve Model), deep water wave model has been extended to the region of shallow water, incorporating wave breaking, and triad wave interaction. To verify this model, two numerical simulations for hydraulic experiments of Chawla et al.(1998) and Beji and Battjes(1993) are performed. The computed results show good agreements with measured ones. To identify its applicability to real sea, it is applied to storm wave modelling for typhoon Maemi. Numerical results compared with measured ones at Geoje, Busan and Ulsan show reasonable wave height estimations.

  • This study is concerned with the estimation of fluctuation wind velocity spectrum and turbulence characteristics in the major cities reflecting the recent meteorological with typhoon wind velocity about 2003 (Maemi) 2010 (Kompasu) 2012 (Tembin). The purpose of this paper is to present spectral analysis for longitudinal component fluctuating velocity. In the processes of analysis, the longitudinal velocity spectrums are compared widely used spectrum models with horizontal wind velocity observations data obtained at Korea Meteorological Adminstration (KMA) and properties of the atmospheric air for typhoon fluctuating wind data are estimated to parameters with turbulency intensity, shear velocity and roughness length.

  • We investigated the characteristics of the overflow/wave overtopping, induced by the storm surge and high waves in Masan bay and Busan Coast during Typhoon 'Maemi', which landed at the southeast coast of the Korean peninsula on September, of 2003, causing a severe inundation disaster. Characteristics of the water level, increase by the overflow / wave overtopping, were discussed in two patterns. One is the increase of water level in the region, located inside of a bay, like Masan fishing port, and the waves are relatively small. The other is in the open sea, in which the waves act directly, as on the seawall in Suyong bay. In the former region, the water level increase was affected by the storm surge, as well as the long period oscillation and waves. In Masan fishing port, about $80\%$ of the water level increase on the quay wall was caused by the storm surge. In the latter one, it was greatly affected by the wave run-up. In Suyong bay, about $90\%$ of the water level increase on the seawall was caused by the wave run-up.

  • The present study was initiated to find out the insect vector of mulberry dwarf phytoplasma. Among the collected insects from mulberry cultivation region, the sucking insects (Hishimonas sellatus, Bothrogonia japonica and Balclutha punctata) were selected for transmission of mulberry dwarf phytoplasma. Sucking insects, H. sellatus and B. punctata successfully transmitted phytoplasma to healthy seedling mulberry and periwinkle plants by inoculation-feeding. Typical dwarf symptom was observed in mulberry tree, but very slender twigs on stem and formatted small leaves were found on periwinkle plants, which are typical witches' broom symptoms. The phytoplasmas were detected in all samples exception sucking insects B. japonica using phytoplasma universal primer pair R16F2n/R2.

  • Two storage proteins, storage protein-1 (SPl) and storage protein -2 (SP2) were found in hemolymph and fat body during the development of Lymantria dispar L. SP1 has a molecular weight of 440, 000 and consists of six identical subunits (MW = 72, 000). The pI value of SP1 was 6.2. SP1 shows a similar high concentration during the late larval stage in both male and female. However, SP1 represents a quite different pattern during pupal stage between male and female. SP1 gradually decreases in male but increases in female. SP1 is immunologically identical to yolk protein. Also, SP1 of L. dispar shows immunologically partial reactions with storage proteins of Hyphantria cunea and Galleria mellonella.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the resource plants of Mt. Midong. The resource plant of Mt. Midong was surveyed from March, 2002 to October, 2003. In the result of survey, the vascular plant species in Mt. Midong were summarized as 400 taxa; 85 families, 266 genera, 349 species, 48 varieties and 3 forms. And in the results of survey on resource plants among 400 taxa, we confirmed 162 taxa of ornamental plants(40.5%), 250 taxa of edible plants(62.5 %), 257 taxa of medicinal plants(64.3%) and 167 taxa of the others(41.8 %). The six taxa were recorded in the surveyed sites as the Korean endemic plants; Hytomecon hylomeconoides, Filipendula palmata var. glabra, Ajuga spectabilis, Weigela subsessilis, Cirsium setidens and Saussurea seoulensis. The rare and endangered plants designated by Korea Forestry Service were two taxa; Hylomecon hylomeconoides and Polygonatum stenophyllum.
