The purposes of this study were to analyze the needs for the balance of work-family and to provide the related policies for dual worker family. We focused on the life area of educare and school. Data were collected from 197 working mothers who have 1 or more children under age 10. The findings were: 1) after-school programs, holidays on every alternate Saturday, arbitrary no school days were not appropriate to the working parents' everyday life patterns, so the paradigm and practical conditions should be adapted to the needs of working parents. 2) the most working parents depended on the kindergarden, but the parents' satisfaction with the quality of service, time duration, the human resource of educare teacher was not sufficient, so these issues should be discussed more profoundly.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the policy demands of the family sector for work-family balance, with a focus on the child care and household labor provisions. For empirical analysis, data were collected from 197 dual-income families with at least one young child under age 10 in the metropolitan area via self-administered questionnaires. The major findings of this study were as follows. First, child care provisions for working mothers and fathers were insufficient and unfair, and the ratio of child care provisions offered by familial child care network was high. The characteristics of child care provisions for working parents were associated with family structure, working conditions, and demographic variables. Second, household labor provisions for working mothers and fathers were also insufficient and unfair, and the ratio of socialization was high. Third, the level of family satisfaction varied by the level of child care and household labor provisions, respectively, controlling family structure, working conditions, and demographic variables. The empirical results of the study provided policy implications for work-family balance.
We investigated the eating habits and food preferences of middle school students to provide material for establishing dietary and nutritional education at the elementary level. We questioned 270 male and female students attending certain middle schools in the Daegu area about their eating habits and food preferences. Eating habits were found to be most regular for students in families where only one parent worked and irregular for students in families where both parents worked. There was a positive correlation between a higher level of academic education of the father and the frequency of consumption of instant foods. There was also a positive correlation between a higher level of academic education of the mother and the frequency of snack consumption. Male students had a higher preference for consuming animal foods than did female students. Students that lived in extended families tented to have a higher preference for vegetable foods. On the other hand, students that lived in nuclear families and students that lived in families where both parents worked preferred snacks more. Based on these results, parental employment and academic education level influences the eating habits and food preferences of middle school students.

Seven expenditure categories were considered such as food away from home, convenient/prepared food, housing care service, clothing care service, childcare, supplemental education, and domestic services. The data were taken from 1999 Family Expenditure Survey by National Statistical Office. The sample consisted of 29,963 households with 33.2% dual-income households. The expenditure for childcare of dual-income households was over six times of single-income households'. Dual-income households spent over ten times of single-income households for domestic services. For most expenditure categories, households with wife working at white-color jobs spent more than other dual-income households. After being other household characteristics to be constant, wife's occupation had found to be related with the household expenditures for most market substitutes. For the expenditures on both food away from home and childcare, employed-wife households with any kind of jobs were found to have higher possibility to spend and to be spent more than non-employed-wife households. The households with wife employed at white-color jobs spent more on clothing care service and domestic services than the households with the not working. Employed-wife households had higher possibility to spend on supplemental education, but they did not spend more on the expenditure, compared to nonemployed-wife households.

This qualitative study focused on the dual earner families' work and family life to explore the possibility of ideal work-family balance. Seven employed married women and two men were interviewed about their work-family balance during two months in 2010. We described four representative cases of having difficulty in work and life balance. And we identified the three dimensions to make their work-family balance difficult. They are motherhood ideology, ideal worker, and the limit of men's housework participation. For ideal work-family balance, we suggested alternatives. First, the companies should make various work-life balance programs and allow their workers to use them actively. Second, the government should support the needs of work-life balance and carry out various family-friendly and child care polices. Third, husbands have to participate the housework much more and the model of 'good' parents need to be modified.
The purpose of this study is to develop childcare service program through the analysis of the market and the needs of current users. For the purpose of this study, qualitative data were collected by use of an in-depth interview with staffs of Healthy Family-Support Center and outside experts. In addition, information about the chilldcare service market was analyzed. At present, a lot of childcare services are offered by both government sector and private sector institutions, but there is both an overlapping and a gap in the services offered. Based on our data, childcare service was suggested for dual income families with elementary school children. And the curriculum to train individuals for this childcarer service program was developed. The curriculum's focus was to nurture them to offer more specialized and custom-tailored services.
