Application of Layer-by-Layer Assembly in Triboelectric Energy Harvesting (마찰대전 기반의 에너지 하베스팅에서 다층박막적층법의 응용)

  • Triboelectric nanogenerator (TENG) devices have generated a lot of interest in recent decades. TENG technology, which is one of the technologies for harvesting mechanical energy among the energy wasted in the environment, is obtained by the dual effect of electrostatic induction and triboelectric charging. Recently, a multilayer thin film stacking method (or layer-by-layer (LbL) self-assembly technique) is being considered as a method to improve the performance of TENG and apply it to new fields. This LbL assembly technology can not only improve the performance of TENG and successfully overcome the thickness problem in applications, but also present an inexpensive, environmentally friendly process and be used for large-scale and mass production. In this review, recent studies in the accomplishment of LbL-based materials for TENG devices are reviewed, and the potential for energy harvesting devices reviewed so far is checked. The advantages of the TENG device fabricated by applying the LbL technology are discussed, and finally, the direction and perspective of this fabrication technology for the implementation of various ultra-thin TENGs are briefly presented.

  • 도전성 섬유(Conductive textile)는 섬유자체의 고유 특성을 유지하면서 전기적인 도전 특성을 갖는 섬유로서, Cu, Ag, Ni 등의 전기전도성이 높은 금속 박막을 증착하여 제작하고 있다. 그러나, 이러한 금속은 공기 중의 산소와 결합하여 쉽게 산화되는 특성을 지니고 있기 때문에 사용 중에 산화되어 도전 특성이 감소하는 단점이 있다. TiN은 금속 못지않은 높은 전기전도성을 지니고 있을 뿐만 아니라, 금속에 비하여 높은 경도에 따른 우수한 내마모 특성, 내부식성 및 낮은 마찰계수를 지니고 있다. 그러나, TiN은 경도가 높기 때문에 섬유의 고유 특성인 유연성이 저하되는 문제가 있다. 본 연구에서는 면(Cotton), PE (Polyester), PP (Polypropylene) 등의 섬유 위에 TiN 박막을 증착하여, 섬유의 유연성을 유지하며 전기전도성과 내마모 특성이 우수한 도전성 섬유를 제작하고자 하였다. TiN 박막 증착을 위하여 ICP-assisted pulsed-DC reactive magnetron sputtering 장비를 사용하였으며, Ar:N2 유량비(Flow rate), Ti 타겟 power, ICP RF power 등을 변화시켜 Ti와 N의 조성비를 조절하였고, 이를 통하여 섬유의 휨이나 접힘에도 도전 특성이 변하지 않고 내마모 특성이 우수한 TiN 박막을 증착하였다. TiN 박막이 증착된 섬유의 전기전도도는 일정한 압력 하에 전기전도도를 측정할 수 있는 장치를 제작하여 측정하였으며, 표면 조성 분포 및 접합력 측정을 위하여 XPS (X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy)와 Peel-tester를 이용하였다.

  • Current brake system changes the kinetic energy into heat energy by friction-type of brake that the braking action is diverging into the air. The system has a device called a retarder that generates braking force. High-tech research on the high-speed response characteristics of retarders utilizing part of the braking energy of the retarder to save electrical energy consumption is already underway in advanced countries. In this paper, we propose DC-DC converter which converts 3-phase voltage generated from retarder to 24V DC voltage for battery charging and verify its validity through experiments.

  • 지난 2월 8일 클린턴 대통령은 ''1996년 전기통신법''에 서명하였다. 따라서 이제 미국에서는 통신, 정보, 미디어산업간의 진입장벽이 허물어져 무한 경쟁의 시대로 접어들게 되었다. 이미 미국내의 주요 사업자들은 경쟁력 강화를 위한 경영효율화와 M&A 등의 조치를 광범위하게 취하고 있다. 세계 정보산업의 리더인 미국 산업계의 이러한 변신은 곧 세계의 정보통신산업에도 광범위한 영향을 미치게 될 것이다. 그리고 사실상의 표준(de facto standard)에 강한 미국 기업들이 보다 자유로운 여건 하에서 해외시장 진출을 추진하는 과정중 표준을 둘러싼 마찰을 일으킬 가능성이 매우 크다고 할 수 있다.

Oil-impregnated Sintered-metal Bearing and Herringbone-grooved Fluid Bearing for High-speed Scanner Motors (함유소결베어링과 빗살무늬 유체베어링의 마찰 특성 및 레이저 스캐너 모터에서의 전기적 특성)

  • The electrical and frictional properties of oil-impregnated sintered-metal bearing (OSB) and herringbone-grooved fluid bearing (HFB) with varying loads and speeds were measured. OSB shows very good performance up to 20,000 rpm and 0.05 N, and HFB successfully works up to 35,000 rpm and 0.05 N. From the endurance tests on start-stop and continuous operation, it was confirmed that those bearings could be mass-produced fur use on scanner motor in a laser scanner unit.

  • The effects of iron content in coated layer, surface roughness and lubricants on the formability of commercial Zn-Fe alloy electroplated steel sheets used for automotive bodies were investigated. The higher the iron content in deposit, the lower the friction coefficient of Zn-Fe alloy electroplated steel sheets. The surface roughness of coated layer hardly influenced the frictional characteristics. The formability of Zn-Fe alloy electroplated steel sheets was found to be more affected by the lubricant than by iron content in Zn-Fe alloy electrodeposit.

  • The electrical and frictional properties of new sintered-metal bearing (S-bearing) with varying loads and speeds were measured. Also those were compared with the same products(J-bearing) made in Japan and the conventionally used ball bearing. The test results show that the frictional values of S-bearing are less than those of J-bearing, and that S-bearing operates in full-hydrodynamic lubrication regime. The values of rating current, starting time and jitter reveal that S-bearing is superior to J-bearing as well as ball bearing.

  • The shoe brake of the KTX is used in low speed when the electric brake is not effective. The main purpose of the shoe brake is to stop the train to a desired stop point at the station. Lots of defects have been encountered in the shoe brake unit since the KTX started its operation. To improve the reliability of shoe brake unit of the KTX power car, first of all, failure modes of the KTX shoe brake unit were analyzed. Main failure modes are cracks in the shoe friction material and fracture in the welded joints of the shoe backing steel structure. Several methods to remove the defects of the shoe brake unit were proposed and on-board tests were carried out: Increase of the strength of the shoe key and shoe cam, which decreased a little the occurrence of cracks in the shoe friction material; Redesign of the shoe backing steel structure, which eliminated the occurrence of the cracks in the backing plate but could not solve completely the crack problem in the shoe friction material; Development of a new friction material, which with redesign of the shoe backing steel structure could solve satisfactorily the crack problem in the shoe friction material.

  • In this research, we studied the scale-up triboelectrostatic process for separation of PVC from higher gravity fraction of plastic wastes produced from wet gravity separation process. High density polyethylene (HDPE) was found to be the most effective materials for a tribo-charger in the separation of plastic tailings. In a commercial scale triboelelctrostatic separator unit, using the HDPE pipe-line charger, a grade of 99.1% with PET, PS and others and a recovery of 86% was obtained under optimum conditions at over 250 kV/m electric field, a splitter position of -8 cm from the center, and less than 40% relative humidity. The developed unit can process the plastic wastes at a 300 kg/h, and the product can be utilized as RPF or RDF of over grade 2.
