This study was conducted to examine the growth and physiological characteristics of Polystichum lepidocaulon native fern as affected by soil mixture as an environment modeled on habitate where was sunken-condition. 1. Polystichum lepidocaulon grew well sunken more than non-sunken condition. Under soil mixture of field soil : sand : leaf mold, Plant height, frond width, frond length, stipe length and ornamental value were increased compared with the other soil mixture. 2. Fresh and dry weight of fronds were higher with non-sunken than sunken condition. In sunken condition, fresh and dry weight were better with field soil : sand : leaf mold than the other soil mixture. 3. Number of spore fronds were increased with sunken condition. As sunken condition, sand : leaf mold was better than field soil : sand : leaf mold or leaf mold. 4. Photosynthetic rate, $CO_2$ absorption rate and water efficiency were higher with field soil : sand : leaf mold than that of sand : leaf mold or leaf mold. expect of stomatal conduction and $CO_2$ use efficiency.
This study was conducted to find out the optimum ranges of soil physical properties for wasabi growth by the relationship of soil physical properties and plant growth. Soil bulk density and hardness were higher in decomposition of granite and river sand than hydroball. This root distribution of surface layer was higher in decomposition of granite and river sand than hydroball. Growth characteristics and yield were higher in hydroball than decomposition of granite and river sand. In inlet site, the marketable rhizome weight in decompasition of granite, river sand, hydroball were 298kg/10a, 401kg/10a, 766kg/10a, respectively. But outlet, the weight in three soils were 251kg/10a, 256kg/10a, 633kg/10a, respectively.

To select the most proper soil for root initiation from stem cuts of Birdsfoot trefoil (Lotus corniculatus L.), eight-week-old stem cuts were cultured on three types of soil [commercial bed soil, decomposed granite (DCG), and river sand] for one month. The results showed that the root initiation ratios on DCG (77.8%) and river sand (70.0%) were relatively high, but the ratio on commercial bed soil (41.1%) was very low. To examine the effect of rare earth (RE) and Indole-3-Butyric Acid (IBA) on root initiation from stem cuts of Birdsfoot Trefoil, stem cuts were cultured on two types of soil (DCG and river sand) with treatment of RE and IBA for one month. The root initiation ratios turned out to be 90.0% (DCG with 60 ppm of RE), 80.0% (river sand with 20 ppm of RE), 96.7% (DCG with 40 ppm of IBA), and 96.7% (river sand with 40 ppm of IBA). These results suggested that the most efficient way for root initiation of Birdsfoot trefoil was to culture the stem cuts on river sand or DCG over 30 days with IBA treatment (40 ppm).

This study examined basic mechanical properties by developing eco-friendly soil concrete using Masato particulate matter treated as waste. Experiments show that DG10 satisfies the compressive strength criterion, but for DG20, the criterion was not reached. As the mixing volume of Masato particulates increased, the compressive strength and slump decreased, and in the case of the compression strength test after freezing and melting, it was found that the standards were not met.

This study is focused on the cultivation of seedlings and cuttings of roundleaf chastetree(Vitex rotundifolia L. f.) according to the sorts of soil and fertilization methods. The results are summarized as follows: When roundleaf chastetree seedlings(aged 1-0) and cuttings(aged 1-0) were cultivated in three different kinds of soil- sand, granite soil, and yellow silt- without any fertilization, 70% of the seedlings survived in sand and granite soil, and 35% did in yellow silt; 90% of the cuttings survived in granite soil and 80% did in sand and yellow silt. The general growth of both seedlings and cuttings was good in granite soil, and sand but relatively inferior in yellow silt. Seedlings showed good stem growth while cuttings had fine root growth. In case of cultivation of seedlings with different kinds and quantities of fertilizer adjusted and with granite soil as basic soil, seedlings and cuttings survived in the experimental section where only the organic fertilizer was used as basic fertilization; in contrast, seedlings grown in the experimental section were all dead where both inorganic and liquefied fertilizer were used. Cuttings showed considerably higher survival rates than seedlings at the experimental fertilization section; particularly, the survival rate of cuttings was twice as much as that of seedlings at the experimental section with low fertilization. This study results revealed that cuttings are desirable than seedlings in general rootage, growth, adaptability to soil, and cuttings have lower demand for soil fertility in time of growing roundleaf chastetree saplings.

This study was conducted to investigate the optimal conditions for spore germination, prothallus propagation, sporophyte formation and seedling growth in Microlepia strigosa (Thunb.) C. Presl. Spore germination and prothallus development were promoted by low concentrations of Knop medium nutrient solution. The optimal medium for prothallus propagation and antheridium formation was 2X MS medium with 3% sucrose. The activated charcoal content of the medium did not affect prothallus proliferation. Among the various combinations of culture soil (bedding soil, peat moss, perlite and decomposed granite), a mixture of bedding soil, peat moss and decomposed granite at a ratio of 1 : 1 : 1 (v : v : v) had a positive effect on sporophyte formation. The most efficient conditions for promoting the growth of whole plants (sporophyte seedlings) were 50 - cell plug trays filled with a mixture of bedding soil and decomposed granite at a 2 : 1 (v : v) ratio.
