Review on Eight Constitution Medicine (팔체질 의학에 대한 논문 리뷰)

  • Objectives: Eight constitution medicine (ECM), which was first introduced in 1965, has been further developed and refined over the decades, and has consolidated its foundation through many studies on theories, diagnosis and clinical application. However, there have been few reviews on dissertations of ECM. In this study, we reviewed previously published studies related to ECM. Methods: We reviewed a total of 55 ECM-related studies published from 1965 to 2010 found on PubMed and various domestic Oriental medicine journals. Each thesis was classified as a theoretical, diagnostic, or remedy-related study. Results: 1. In the review of theoretical studies, shortly after ECM's introduction in 1965 by Kwon, the authors found studies on constitutional diseases, diets and food table which helped establish the background of ECM. ECM has further developed by comparing its theories with Sasang constitutional medicine, Huang-di-nei-jing, Saam, and Taegeuk acupuncture theories. 2. Research on diagnosis has been focused on its objectivity and accuracy. Constitution could be diagnosed by pulse-taking. To compensate for the lack of accuracy innate in pulse-taking, the Eight Constitution Questionnaire has been invented. 3. Remedies can be largely divided into acupuncture and diet. There were case studies comparing treatment effect of ECM acupuncture to other treatments. Diet related studies were carried out in the fields of immunology and nutrition. Conclusions: The authors reviewed studies that contributed to improved understanding of theories and clinical implications of ECM. Although there were various approaches to its theoretical and clinical grounds, more clinical research is needed. There is also a need to evaluate the accuracy of the experts' diagnoses of the constitution. The relationship between the diet and constitution also needs further research.

  • This paper reviews the developments of econometric analysis and seeks a statistical applicability to current economic phenomena. During the last half century, economic analysis has progressed continuously, analyzing and predicting a broad variety of economic phenomena. In the center of this progress lies the remarkable contribution of econometrics and mathematical statistics. New economic research environment has been recently created via developments of IT and the spread of internet and SNSs. Economic phenomena has become increasingly complicated along with more volatile and sophisticated economic analysis. In that context, it can be suggested that there is a need to move beyond current economic paradigms and adapt new approaches such as complex theory and econophysics, all of which posits as a challenge for econometrics and statistics.

Review on the Effects of Material Heterogeneity on Fracture Toughness in Steel Weldment (재질적 불균질이 강용접부의 파괴인성에 미치는 영향에 관한 고찰)

  • The evaluation of fracture toughness in weldment is necessary for the safety performance of industrial structures with large scale such as various power plants, LNG (liquefied natural gas) storage tanks, etc. It is generally known that weldments have material heterogeneity, which results in the serious changes in fracture characteristics of HAZ (heat-affected zone). Nevertheless, the systematic study on material heterogeneity of weldment has not been performed yet in Korea. Therefore in this paper, the effects of material heterogeneity on the fracture toughness of structural steel HAZ were introduced and reviewed.

  • The phenomenon of technological discontinuity which occurs during technological diffusion and substitution between incumbents and new technology is important to understand the behavior of technology diffusion and substitution of single and multiple technologies. Our research defined the concept of technological discontinuity and developed a model capable of measuring the region of technological discontinuity. Based on a literature review and a model development, we proposed a definition and a model regarding technological discontinuity.The accuracy of the model is verified by applying it on a semiconductor industry case. The technological discontinuity is defined as the region in which both the incumbent and new technology co-exist and the performance of the incumbent technology is better than that of the new technology. In addition, we can model the technological discontinuity using discontinuous time and discontinuous performance. This research will be very useful to understand not only technological discontinuity but also technology diffusion or substitution.

  • Prediction of TBM performance is very important for machine selection, and for reliable estimation of construction cost and period. The purpose of this research is to analyze the evaluation process of various prediction models for TBM performance and applied methodology. Based on the solid literature review since 2000, a classification system of TBM performance prediction model is proposed in this study. Classification system suggested in this study can be divided into two stages: selection of input parameter and application of prediction techniques. We also analyzed input and output parameters for prediction model and frequency of use. Lastly, the future research and development trend of TBM performance prediction is suggested.

  • In this study, we are analysing adverse drug events and proposing a technical structure of "adverse drug event surveillance system" using business intelligence technology, hoping that we can use the system commonly and actively. It is the recent trend to adopt both of electronic review and manual review process to surveil adverse drug events and this study construct CDW applying ETL in BI Technology. As the result of analysis, the data pool included 701 doctors who prescribed and 3059 patients(1528 male, 1531 female), of total 318,222 cases, 2,086cases(0.6%) were suspected as having adverse drug events. And the single type of T.bilirubin> 3mg/dL(ADE type-LabR0005) was the most common(548 among 2085 cases) within the framework of signals.

  • As visiting of Chinese tourists to Korea have increased gradually, Chinese people who use online travel reservation services for their visits to Korea have increased accordingly. In addition, the growth of the online reservation services in China is very rapid. Therefore, it is necessary to study the factors affecting the Chinese tourists' intention to use the online travel reservation services in order to advance e-business in the travel industry. This paper presents a new research model based on Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) including perceived risk, service factors, online reviews and user satisfaction. Also, it analyzes factors affecting the Chinese tourists' intention to use the online travel reservation services. The results of this study show that the key influencers of the online travel reservation services are perceived usefulness, perceived ease, and perceived risk. Additionally, based on these results, this paper proposes practical suggestions to solve the existing problems and improve online travel reservation websites in China.

A Microstructural Design and Modeling of Neutron-Irradiated Materials (중성자 조사재의 미세구조 설계와 모델링)

  • A material changes its physical and chemical properties through the interaction with radiation and also the neutrons, which is electronically neutral so that the penetration depth is relatively deeper than that of other radioactive way including alpha or beta ray. Therefore, the radiation damage by neutron irradiation has been intensively investigated for a long time with respect to the safety of nuclear power plants. The damage induced by neutron irradiation begins with the creation of point defects in atomic scale in the unit of picoseconds, and their progress pattern can be characterized by microstructural defects, such as dislocation loops and voids. Their morphological characteristics affect the properties of neutron-irradiated materials, therefore, it is very important to predict the microstructure at a given neutron irradiation condition. This paper briefly reviews the evolution of radiation damage induced by neutron irradiation and introduces a phase-field model that can be widely used in predicting the microstructure evolution of irradiated materials.

  • Pharmaceutical use accounts for a great part of articles and papers on crosslinking of polymers. Crosslinking of polymers used for tissue engineering and drug delivery respects non-cytotoxicity and in situ gelling. The crosslinking of polymers is aimed not only at the improvement of modulus, chemical resistance, and thermal resistance, but also at endowing them with such functions as metal adsorption, antifouling, and ion exchange via crosslinked segments. Smart polymers responding to environmental change, and cosslinking mediated by light, enzyme, natural compound and in aqueous medium in consideration of environment are being studied. Developing new polymeric materials is essential along with the pharmaceutics aiming at the longevity of 120 years old. Functionalization and property adjustment of polymers through crosslinking will be done more delicately. Hydrogels will be focused on injectable and in situ gel forming. In the coating industry crosslinking system with low non-toxicity and low energy consumption will be developed in consideration of workers and environment.

Current Status and Prospect of Aircraft Ice Protection Systems (항공기 결빙 보호장치의 기술 현황 및 전망)

  • Aircraft ice protection systems are applied to the window shield, engine inlet, and wings to protect the aircraft from ice that may form on the surfaces of aircraft and sensors during operation. Icing on the aircraft can cause serious accidents by degrading the flight stability of the aircraft and by malfunctions in sensors such as the air data probe. Various types of ice protection systems have been developed for aircraft in the past. The electro-thermal type ice protection system contributes greatly to improving energy efficiency in a relatively simple structure, and has established itself as one of most popular ice protection systems for modern aircraft. In this review, two representative ice protection systems-hot-air and electro-thermal types-were intensively analyzed, and the prospect of ice protection systems was discussed based on the current status and application cases.
