This paper is about the problems that Quine's criterion of ontological commitment creates for Nominalists. Quine's clear criterion of ontological commitment, summarized as "to be is to be the value of a variable", means that when we accept a sentence to be true, we are committed to the existence of things that must exist for the sentence to be true. The criterion causes problems for Nominalists. According to Quine's criterion, Nominalists who consider "Humility is a virtue" as true should accept the existence of the property, humility. However, Nominalists are reluctant to accept that properties such as humility exist, although they wish to accept what is meant by "humility is a virtue". The way out of this predicament is presenting a paraphrase which delivers what Nominalists wanted to say through the original sentence without ontological commitment to the property. Several attempts were made to paraphrase such sentences, only to fail. In this paper, successful paraphrases will be presented to cope with previously discussed difficulties. Beforehand, several issues involved in the Quine's criterion will be clarified. Also, Lewis's critical objection that we should give up the business of paraphrase will be discussed.

96년 미국과 멕시코로 루이스 칸과 바라간 등의 건축 답사를 다녀온 후로, 우리 전통 문화유산을 두루 보러 다녔다. 그동안 가까이 있는 것은 언제건 보겠거니 하고 미뤄 온 터라, 우리 것을 너무 도외시해 온 것 같은 자책감이 생겼기 때문이다. 그리고 건축관에 변화가 있는건 아니지만, 답사하면서 이따금 좋은 느낌을 만나 반가웠다. 솔직히 말해서 다 그런 것은 아니고 손꼽아 말할 수 있었다. 그러면서 필자는 건축적 가치의 획득이 고전과 현대 또는 양식의 차이에 의해서가 아니고, 자체의 성공 여부에 있다는 것을 확신하게 되었다. 건축의 본질은 변함없으며, 건축에 반영된 시대 상황이 다를 따름이라 생각한다. 우리는 훌륭한 문화유산을 많이 갖고 있다. 하지만 국가나 개인의 살림이 넉넉해서 그렇게 되어졌다고 생각지는 않는다. 종묘가 만들어진 것은 정신적 힘에 의해 이룩됐을 것이다. 그렇게 해서 지금 우리에게 위대한 모습으로 남겨 있는 것이 감사하다. 전통건축은 현대 사유 체계로는 추구될 수 없는 이상적인 모습을 띠고 있다. 그리고 오늘날 건축의 자본주의 행태와 대조되는 교훈도 느낀다. 도대체 우리 선조들에게는 구도하듯 짓는 어떤 전통이 있었기에 그렇게 훌륭한 건축이 남겨질 수 있었을까? 그 흔적을 나름대로 찾아보고자 한다.

축사나 환기시스템은 슬롯 환기시스템(slot-ventilation systems)으로 설치되어 있는 경우가 많으며, 이의 공기 유동(流動)을 2차원으로 해석할 수 있다. 직사각형 슬롯 환기 밀폐공간의 공기혼합 형태와 속도분포의 추정을 위해서 K-E 난류 전이모형을 기초로 한 TEACH-T 프로그램을 변형, 적용하였다. 이 모형을 이용하여 얻은 기류분포 형태는 실측한 기류분포 형태와 매우 잘 맞았으며 추정한 공기속도의 크기는 비교적 잘 맞는 편이었다. 그러므로 TEACH-T 프로그램을 변형해서 환기시스템 설계의 기초자료가 되는 여러 형태의 슬롯 밀폐공간의 공기분포와 공기속도의 크기를 추정하는데 TEACH-T 프로그램을 변형해서 적용시킬 수 있다.

With the emergence of SNS, TV, newspapers and radio, which are one-way communication media, have become less important. Therefore social networking enables social networking beyond the constraints of time and space, and communication and emotional communication required for social relations have emerged as a factor in the importance of social media. Social media, which is based on rapid connectivity and scalability, is an medium of expression that is advantageous for companies and consumers to communicate more easily than traditional advertising media. Advertising can form a consensus that consumers and companies can create an atmosphere of friendly conversation because of the social media that has the efficiency of communication. This study compares two ads. One is the advertisement of 'Bear and Hare', an animation of John Lewis department store in the UK, where a new form of advertising marketing strategy is fused with emotional storytelling and social media. The second is an advertisement of LG, 'I love you LG' to be. Social media should be remembered as a warm and loving company in the heart of customers through open communication with customers, rather than companies that pursue merit profits by using social media ads as a medium of emotional transmission to consumers. It is a study on useful advertising strategy that can pursue the sales of the company at the same time.

A study on laminar coflow jet flames diluted with helium and nitrogen has been conducted to investigate self-excitations. The stability map was provided with a function of nozzle exit velocity and fuel mole fractions of propane or methane. The results show that there exist three types of self-excitations; (1) buoyancy-driven self-excitation (BDSE), (2) Lewis number induced self-excitation coupled with buoyancy (LCB) and (3) Lewis number induced self-excitation (LISE).

Behaviors of lean premixed flame of propane/air and methane/air flame anchored by a pilot flame in a tube were investigated experimentally varying the mean velocity from 10 to 140 cm/s and the equivalence ratio from 0.45 to 0.8. Behaviors of both flames are divided into five regions of stable, flash-back, tail-out, flickering and vibrating. General characteristics of each region and Le number effect are investigated. Two main instabilities, flickering and vibration, are both unstable but the instability mechanism, the frequency and the amplitude of pressure fluctuation are different. In the edge of the vibrating region, pressure fluctuation repeats generation and extinction. Repeated growth and decrease of the amplitude of pressure fluctuation are explained by Rayleigh#s index.

The flame initiation of an infinite fuel system exposed to a planar ignition kernel has been investigated numerically. The aim has been to promote an understanding of the flame initiation by using the simplest mathematical formulation which retains the essential physical features. It has been found that there exists a minimum ignition energy below which a combustion wave cannot be initiated. For a fixed value of Lewis number, the same flame progation velocity has been obtained irregardless of the amount ignition energy supplied. Furthermore, for a fixed energy input there is a maximum Lewis number over which the flame cannot be initiated.

The purpose of this article is to study the aspects of transformation of Treasure Island(1883), Robert Louis Stevenson's novel in two feature animations (1987) of Osamu Dezaki and (2002) of Ron Clements and John Musker by analyzing characters. In the original novel, as a typical wicked villain and traitor, Long John Silver functioned as an obstacle in Jim Hawkins' Bildungsroman. And Osamu Dezaki laid great emphasis on the friendship between Jim and Stiver His might be an excellent example of the faithful adaptation. But in Disney's , from initial mistrust, to friendly co-worker, to mentor and protege, and finally, to mutual rescuers, Jim and Silver have created a permanent bond that can never be broken - their coming together has changed both their lives forever. Jim's voyage of searching for treasure is not just for the discovery of material riches unimaginable but also for the discovery of his own true worth. Making the Sliver/Jim relationship more focused, Jim ends up discovering not just an obvious treasure; he discovers an inner treasure. From this viewpoint, this feature film could be an outstanding transformative adaptation.

Experiments were conducted in a constant-pressure combustion chamber to investigate the effects of hydrocarbon addition on cellular instabilities of syngas-air flames. The measured laminar burning velocities were compared with the predicted results computed using reliable kinetic mechanisms with detailed transport and chemistry. The cellular instabilities that included hydrodynamic and diffusional-thermal instabilities of the hydrocarbon-added syngas-air flames were identified and evaluated. Further, experimentally measured critical Peclet numbers for fuel-lean flames were compared with the predicted results. Experimental results showed that the laminar burning velocities decreased significantly with an increase in the amount of hydrocarbon added in the reactant mixtures. With addition of propane and butane, the propensity for cell formation was significantly diminished whereas the cellular instabilities for methane-added syngas-air flames were not suppressed.

본 연구의 목적은 어린이를 위한 인터랙티브 TV (KidTV)의 개발 사례를 통하여 사용자 인터페이스 디자인에 있어 제품디자인 영역의 특수성이 반영된 보다 적합한 인터랙티브 제품의 디자인 개발 체계를 개발하기 위한 관점을 찾는데 있다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 인터랙션 디자인 프로젝트에서 제품디자인적 문제해결 과제인 물리적 형태부여의 주요 요소인 인터랙션 스타일을 보다 합리적으로 조형요소로써 반영하기 위한 해결안으로써 "Form follows function" 이라는 루이스 설리반의 주장에서 힌트를 얻어 현시적 관점에서 그의 주장을 재해석하여 "Form follows Interaction" 이라는 디자인 키워드를 통하여 사용자 인터페이스 디자인에서의 제품디자인 측면의 인터페이스 개발을 위한 하나의 관점으로 제안하고자 한다. 이를 통하여 다양한 학제가 결합하여 진행할 수 밖에 없는 사용자 인터페이스 디자인에 있어 여러 다른 학제들과 제품디자인 영역간의 이해를 돕고 사용자 인터페이스 전체적인 관점에서 제품디자인 영역의 디자인 개발체계를 확립할 수 있는 하나의 관점을 제공하고자 한다.
