Singing Voice Synthesis Using HMM Based TTS and MusicXML (HMM 기반 TTS와 MusicXML을 이용한 노래음 합성)

  • Singing voice synthesis is the generation of a song using a computer given its lyrics and musical notes. Hidden Markov models (HMM) have been proved to be the models of choice for text to speech synthesis. HMMs have also been used for singing voice synthesis research, however, a huge database is needed for the training of HMMs for singing voice synthesis. And commercially available singing voice synthesis systems which use the piano roll music notation, needs to adopt the easy to read standard music notation which make it suitable for singing learning applications. To overcome this problem, we use a speech database for training context dependent HMMs, to be used for singing voice synthesis. Pitch and duration control methods have been devised to modify the parameters of the HMMs trained on speech, to be used as the synthesis units for the singing voice. This work describes a singing voice synthesis system which uses a MusicXML based music score editor as the front-end interface for entry of the notes and lyrics to be synthesized and a hidden Markov model based text to speech synthesis system as the back-end synthesizer. A perceptual test shows the feasibility of our proposed system.

Teacher Feedback on Process-Centered Assessment for Scientific Argumentation (과학적 논의를 활용한 과정중심평가에서의 교사 피드백 유형 사례 연구)

  • This study investigates the types of teacher feedback in the process-centered assessment for scientific argumentation. The process-centered assessment visualizes the process of developing scientific argumentation at a group level. Four teachers and 353 high school students participated in this study. We analyzed video recordings, the collaborative modeling-argumentation papers, and teachers' interviews. The findings indicate that the teachers provided feedback on scientific concepts and the development of small group argumentation. We presented a representative case for each category in detail. The study suggests that teachers' efficient use of feedback leads to improvement in students' self-regulation. This study contributes to providing specific and useful guidelines on the use of process-centered assessment for enhancing students' scientific argumentation.

Thermal conductivity of acrylic composite films containing graphite and carbon nanotube (흑연과 탄소나노튜브를 함유한 아크릴 복합체 박막의 열전도도)

  • 아크릴계 수지(resin)에 인조 흑연과 탄소나노튜브(carbon nanotube)를 1:1 비율로 혼합한 충전제(filler)와 용제(solvent) 및 기타 첨가제(additives)를 혼합하여 방열도료를 제조하여 수직방향 열전도도를 상온에서 평가하였다. 충전제의 함량을 1, 2, 5 중량 %로 변화시키며 원료들을 준비하여 교반기로 혼합한 뒤 3단 롤 밀(three roll mill)로 분산공정을 진행하여 3 종류의 도료를 제조하였다. 제조한 도료를 가로 11 mm, 세로 11 mm, 두께 0.4 mm의 Al 5052 알루미늄 기판에 스프레이 코팅 방식으로 도포한 후 $150^{\circ}C$에서 30분 동안 열경화 건조 과정을 거쳐 샘플을 제작하였다. 측정 시료의 형상은 대략적으로 Fig. 1과 같다. 열전도도는 식 $k={\alpha}{\cdot}C_p{\cdot}{\rho}$를 사용해서 계산된다. 여기서 k는 열전도도($W/m{\cdot}K$), ${\alpha}$는 열확산계수($mm^2/s$), $C_p$는 비열($J/kg{\cdot}K$), ${\rho}$는 밀도($g/cm^3$)를 나타낸다. 열확산계수는 독일 NETZSCH 사의 Laser Flash Analysis 장비(모델명 LFA 457)를 사용하여 측정하였는데, 기판 뒤쪽에서 레이저를 조사하고 도료층 전면에서 적외선 온도센서를 통해 시간에 따른 온도 상승곡선을 구한 후, 두 물체의 계면에서의 접촉 열저항(contact thermal resistance)을 감안하여 장비에 내장되어 있는 소프트웨어로 열확산계수가 계산된다. 비열은 같은 회사의 DSC(Differential Scanning Calorimetry) 200 F3 장비를 사용해 측정했으며, 밀도는 부피와 질량을 측정한 값을 이용하여 계산하였다. 도료를 도포하지 않은 bare Al plate에 대해서는 쉽게 열확산계수, 비열, 밀도를 측정하여 열전도도를 구할 수 있다. 도료가 코팅된 샘플에 대해서는 도료층을 일부 떼어내 비열을 측정하고, 밀도를 구한 후, 도료층의 열전도도가 2-layer 법으로 장비 내장 소프트웨어로 계산된다, 이때 Al 기판의 열확산계수, 비열, 밀도는 미리 측정한 bare Al plate의 값을 적용하였다. 실험 결과를 Table 1에 정리하였다. 흑연과 탄소나노튜브를 혼합한 충전제를 함유한 아크릴 복합체 박막에서 측정된 열전도도는 보통 고분자 재료의 열전도도 값의 상한 영역에 육박하는 값이며, 충전제 함량이 증가할수록 열전도도가 증가하는 경향을 보이고 있다.

Design of an integrated Chassis Controller for the Improvement of Vehicle Dynamic Characteristics (차량의 동특성 향상을 위한 통합 샤시 제어기의 설계)

  • In this paper, a novel type of an integrated controller is designed for vehicles equipped with active classis systems to improve vehicle stability, handling, and ride comfort. The hybrid fuzzy logic controller consists of a fuzzy logic controller, a skyhook controller, an attitude controller, and a roll moment distribution controller, and these controllers are used with a proper combination which is determined by the integrated control logic based on driving conditions of a vehicle. It is shown by simulations using MATRIXx/SYSTEMBBUILD software that ride comfort, handling, and active safety are improved for a 16 degree-of-freedom vehicle dynamic model.

  • Vehicle dynamic states used in various advanced driving safety systems are influenced by road geometry. Among the road geometry information, the vehicle pitch angle influenced by road slope and acceleration-deceleration is essential parameter used in pose estimation including the navigation system, advanced adaptive cruise control and others on sag road. Although the road slope data is essential parameter, the method measuring the parameter is not commercialized. The digital map including the road geometry data and high-precision DGPS system such as DGPS(Differential Global Positioning System) based RTK(Real-Time Kinematics) are used unusually. In this paper, low-cost cascade extended Kalman filter(CEKF) based road slope estimation method is proposed. It use cascade two EKFs. The EKFs use several measured vehicle states such as yaw rate, longitudinal acceleration, lateral acceleration and wheel speed of the rear tires and 3 D.O.F(Degree Of Freedom) vehicle dynamics model. The performance of proposed estimation algorithm is evaluated by simulation based on Carsim dynamics tool and T-car based experiment.

An Introduction of Robotics Education in Tufts University -Workshops at CEEO- (Tufts University의 로봇활용교육 사례 소개 -CEEO의 Workshop을 중심으로-)

  • I will introduce robotics education, Novel Engineering, STOMP have hosted in CEEO at Tufts University. CEEO is a leading center for Robotics Education in all over the USA. So far lots of universities and centers have adopted these programs. CEEO have hosted many workshops for students and teachers every summer vacation. And Simple Robotics course is required for every Engineering department freshmen. Novel Engineering(NE) is not familiar to us. I think that NE will be a good tool for integrating reading literacy and engineering. When teachers design a engineering class, members of STOMP help teachers achieve the goals of class. Software Education has been widely spreaded for last several years in South Korea. If our country adopts these programs government-widely. I think that It will be able to contribute to foster SW-talented persons.

Implementation of Mutual Conversion System between Body Movement and Visual·Auditory Information (신체 움직임-시·청각 정보 상호변환 시스템의 구현)

  • This paper has implemented a mutual conversion system that mutually converts between body motion signals and both visual and auditory signals. The present study is based on intentional synesthesia that can be perceived by learning. The Euler's angle was used in body movements as the output of a wearable armband(Myo). As a muscle sense, roll, pitch and yaw signals were used in this study. As visual and auditory signals, MIDI(Musical Instrument Digital Interface) signals and HSI(Hue, Saturation, Intensity) color model were used respectively. The method of mutual conversion between body motion signals and both visual and auditory signals made it easy to infer by applying one-to-one correspondence. Simulation results showed that input motion signals were compared with output simulation ones using ROS(Root Operation System) and Gazebo which is a 3D simulation tool, to enable the mutual conversion between body motion information and both visual and auditory information.

Modeling of Nano-scale FET(Field Effect Transistor : FinFET) (나노-스케일 전계 효과 트랜지스터 모델링 연구 : FinFET)

  • We performed two-dimensional (20) computer-based modeling and simulation of FinFET by solving the coupled Poisson-Schrodinger equations quantum-mechanically in a self-consistent manner. The simulation results are carefully investigated for FinFET with gate length(Lg) varying from 10 to 80nm and with a Si-fin thickness($T_{fin}$) varying from 10 to 40nm. Current-voltage (I-V) characteristics are compared with the experimental data. Device optimization has been performed in order to suppress the short-channel effects (SCEs) including the sub-threshold swing, threshold voltage roll-off, drain induced barrier lowering (DIBL). The quantum-mechanical simulation is compared with the classical appmach in order to understand the influence of the electron confinement effect. Simulation results indicated that the FinFET is a promising structure to suppress the SCEs and the quantum-mechanical simulation is essential for applying nano-scale device structure.

World Interest and Activities on Marine Litter (해양쓰레기의 전 지구적 관심과 실행)

  • After the UN General Assembly on 2006, Interest on the marine litter has rapidly increased internationally. The UN sub-organizations, UNEP/Regional Seas, FAO(Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) and OC(Ocean Conservancy) as a one of world NGO had been tackled to collect information and prepared world reports related on marine litter, recently, those are published. Through the 10years experience of Korea's policy on marine litter since 1999, it is re-evaluated as a roll model internationally. In this paper, brief introduction of structure and function of Korea's authorities which are responsible for or are involved in the marine litter issue as well as the National Marine Litter Management Basic Plan which is established in 2008, has been provided. This paper also included the structure and roll of the marine litter initiative center in the plan. Change of the paradigm of action plan on marine litter in Korea already had been started.

  • The catchment management experiences of the Evian natural mineral water (NMW) bottling company were reviewed. Evian is among the leading brands of bottled NMW in France, exporting worldwide and becoming a role model for companies in many countries due to its long-term experiences in sustainably managing NMW source areas. Experiences of bottled water companies in France show that they are incessantly moving forward with proactive and advanced ideas to meet environmental challenges. For business sustainability, companies are dedicated to improving their environmental performance through effective and planned resource management. Evian has been working with the local community in a spirit of co-ownership to invent and preserve the water resource and fulfill its ambition of sustainable industrial functioning. The partnership aims to balance the protection of the NMW resource and sustainable agricultural development within the catchment.
