  • This paper described the general dynamic point for rotor design and the design procedure of low vibration blade. Generally, rotor rotating natural frequencies are determined to minimize hub loads, blade vibration and to suppress ground resonance at rotor design stage. First, through rotor frequency diagram, natural frequencies must be far away from resonance point and rotating loads generated from blade can be transformed to non-rotating load to predict fuselage vibration. Vibration level was predicted at each forward flight condition by calculating cockpit's vertical acceleration transferred from non-rotating hub load assuming a fuselage as a rigid body. This design method is applied to design current Next-generation Rotor System Blade(NRSB) and will be applied to New Rotor which will be developed Further.

  • Quadrotor is simple to model because of the symmetric structure but it has the disadvantage of being relatively sensitive to the external disturbance and system uncertainty. The PID technique applied for the attitude control of quadrotor has been applied comprehensively, but it has a disadvantage that is hard to precise control in the nonlinear system. In this work, a quadrotor attitude control law using the super twisting algorithm is studied, which has robust characteristics against disturbance and system uncertainty. To evaluate the attitude performance by the proposed technique, simulation studies and actual flight tests are carried out, and compared with the conventional PID controller.

  • A helicopter rotor brake system stops or reduces the speed of the rotor by transforming the kinetic energy into the heat energy. The frictionally generated heat has a considerable effect on the frictional property of material itself and causes the change of the friction coefficient which may affect the breaking time significantly. In this paper, to take into account the effect of change of friction coefficient according to temperature on braking time, thermo-mechanically coupled analysis is carried out by commercial software ABAQUS. Further, simple theoretical equation is derived considering thermo-mechanical behaviors. The predicted braking times both from theoretical and numerical methods are compared and validity of proposed theoretical equation is investigated.

  • In this study, a small-scaled test system for a tip jet rotor was developed to contribute to the research on unmanned compound rotorcraft. The performance and dynamic characteristics of the tip jet rotor were investigated using the test system. The diameter of the tip jet rotor was set to 2m in consideration of the size of the test site and the pneumatic supply capacity of the. The rotating speed of the rotor was controlled by the pressure of the compressed air. The thrust and forces during the rotor rotation were measured using a load measuring device. A hydraulic actuator was installed for the dynamic test and full-bridge strain gages were attached to the root of each blade to measure the flap, lag, and torsion-wise responses generated when the rotor is excited by the actuator. The performance and dynamic characteristic tests were conducted at various rotor speeds and blade pitches. In order to check the validity of the test results, the results were also compared with the CAMRAD II analysis.

  • In this paper, we propose a control scheme for quadrotor system using a pole placement method. When using a state feedback controller, a lot of trial and error in selection of control gains are often required to improve system performance. In order to relax this complicated process, we analyze the closed-loop system associated with control gains. Then, we present a control gain selection algorithm for control gains using a pole placement method to improve the system performance. The proposed control method is applied to the actual quadrotor system to illustrate the validity of the proposed method.

  • This numerical study conducts the modeling and the hover performance analyses of coaxial co-rotating rotor(or stacked rotor), using a rotorcraft comprehensive analysis code, CAMRAD II. The important design parameters such as the index angle and axial spacing for the coaxial co-rotating rotor are varied in this simulation study. The coaxial co-rotating rotor is trimmed using the torque value of the upper rotor of the previous coaxial counter-rotating rotor or the total thrust value of the previous coaxial counter-rotating rotor in hover. The maximum increases in the rotor thrust is 1.84% for the index angle of -10° when using the torque trim approach. In addition, the maximum decreases in the rotor power is 4.53% for the index angle of 20° with the thrust trim method. Thus, the present study shows that the hover performance of the coaxial co-rotating rotor for e-VTOL aircraft can be changed by the index angle.

  • In this paper, an efficient modeling method of Horizontal-Axis Wind Turbine(HAWT) system is proposed. This method Is based on representing a HAWT system as a multi-body system with several rigid bodies i.e. rotor blade, low/high speed shaft, gear system, md generator. Also, simulation software WINSIM is developed to evaluate performance of wind turbine system. Simulation results show that the proposed modeling method and simulation software are efficient and reliable.

  • Unlike general unmanned aerial vehicles, the quad-rotor is attracting the attention of many people because of simple structure and very useful value. However, as the interest in drones increases, the safety and location of vehicles are becoming more important provide against aviation safety accidents or lost accidents. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a tracking system that stabilizes the model with a simple controller by linearized modeling and grasp tilt angle data from various sensor through the filter. The developed tracking system transmits the position of the quad-rotor in flight to the computer and shows it through the route, so it can check the flight path and various information such as flight speed and altitude at the same time. Then the sensor used in the actual quad-rotor can not measure exact sensor data for disturbance and vibration. So we use sensor fusion of Kalman filter and Complementary filter to overcome this problem and the stability of the quad-rotor hovering is realized by PID control. Through simulation, various information such as the speed, position, and altitude of the quad-rotor were confirmed in real time.
