Soybean has widely grown for its edible bean which has numerous uses. Microwave remote sensing has a great potential over the conventional remote sensing with the visible and infrared spectra due to its all-weather day-and-night imaging capabilities. In this investigation, a ground-based polarimetric scatterometer operating at multiple frequencies was used to continuously monitor the crop conditions of a soybean field. Polarimetric backscatter data at L, C, and X-bands were acquired every 10 minutes on the microwave observations at various soybean stages. The polarimetric scatterometer consists of a vector network analyzer, a microwave switch, radio frequency cables, power unit and a personal computer. The polarimetric scatterometer components were installed inside an air-conditioned shelter to maintain constant temperature and humidity during the data acquisition period. The backscattering coefficients were calculated from the measured data at incidence angle $40^{\circ}$ and full polarization (HH, VV, HV, VH) by applying the radar equation. The soybean growth data such as leaf area index (LAI), plant height, fresh and dry weight, vegetation water content and pod weight were measured periodically throughout the growth season. We measured the temporal variations of backscattering coefficients of the soybean crop at L, C, and X-bands during a soybean growth period. In the three bands, VV-polarized backscattering coefficients were higher than HH-polarized backscattering coefficients until mid-June, and thereafter HH-polarized backscattering coefficients were higher than VV-, HV-polarized back scattering coefficients. However, the cross-over stage (HH > VV) was different for each frequency: DOY 200 for L-band and DOY 210 for both C and X-bands. The temporal trend of the backscattering coefficients for all bands agreed with the soybean growth data such as LAI, dry weight and plant height; i.e., increased until about DOY 271 and decreased afterward. We plotted the relationship between the backscattering coefficients with three bands and soybean growth parameters. The growth parameters were highly correlated with HH-polarization at L-band (over r=0.92).

An X-band $8{\times}16$ dual-polarized active phased array antenna system has been implemented based on the substrate integrated waveguide(SIW) technology having low propagation loss, complete EM shielding, and high power handling characteristics. Compared with the microstrip case, 1 dB less is the measured insertion loss(0.65 dB) of the 16-way SIW power distribution network and doubled(3 dB improved) is the measured radiation efficiency(73 %) of the SIW sub-array($1{\times}16$) antenna element. These significant improvements of the power division loss and the radiation efficiency using the SIW, save more than 30 % of the total power consumption, in the active phased array antenna systems, through substantial reduction of the maximum output power(P1 dB) of the high power amplifiers. Using the X-band $8{\times}16$ dual-polarized active phased array antenna system fabricated by the SIW technology, the main radiation beam has been steered by 0, 5, 9, and 18 degrees in the accuracy of 2 degree maximum deviation by simply generating the theoretical control vectors. Performing thermal cycle and vacuum tests, we have found that the SIW array antenna system be eligible for the space environment qualification. We expect that the high efficiency SIW array antenna system be very effective for high performance radar systems, massive MIMO for 5G mobile systems, and various millimeter-wave systems(60 GHz WPAN, 77 GHz automotive radars, high speed digital transmission systems).

A study of miniaturization of an L-band orthomode transducer(OMT) for field experiments of radar backscatter is presented in this paper. The proposed OMT is not required the additional waveguide taper structures to connect with a standard adaptor by the newly designed junction structure which bases on a waveguide taper. Total length of the OMT for L-band is about 1.2 ${\lambda}_o$(310 mm) and it's a size of 60 % of the existing OMTs. And, to increase the matching and isolation performances of each polarization, two conducting posts are inserted. The bandwidth of 420 MHz and the isolation level of about 40 dB are measured in the operating frequency. The L-band scatterometer consisting of the manufactured OMT, a horn-antenna and network analyzer(Agilent 8753E) was used STCT and 2DTST to analysis the measurement accuracy of radar backscatter. The full-polarimetric RCSs of test-target, 55 cm trihedral corner reflector, measured by the calibrated scatterometer have errors of -0.2 dB and 0.25 dB for vv-/hh-polarization, respectively. The effective isolation level is about 35.8 dB in the operating frequency. Then, the horn-antenna used to measure has the length of 300 mm, the aperture size of $450{\times}450\;mm^2$, and HPBWs of $29.5^{\circ}$ and $36.5^{\circ}$ on the principle E-/H-planes.

Parallel processing algorithms, coupled with advanced networking and distributed computing architectures, improve the overall computational performance, dependability, and versatility of a digital signal processing system In this paper, novel parallel algorithms are introduced and investigated for advanced sonar algorithm, conventional matched-field processing (CMFP). Based on a specific domain, each parallel algorithm decomposes the sequential workload in order to obtain scalable parallel speedup. Depending on the processing requirement of the algorithm, the computational performance of the parallel algorithm reveals different characteristics. The high-complexity algorithm, CMFP shows scalable parallel performance on the array of DSP processors. The impact on parallel performance due to workload balancing, communication scheme, algorithm complexity, processor speed, network performance, and testbed configuration is explored.

Automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) is the core technology of communication, navigation and surveillance/air traffic management (CNS/ATM), automatically broadcasts its own position information using GNSS and has an advantage of lower geological constraints and faster update speed compared with legacy radar systems. EUROCONTROL defined all purpose structured eurocontrol surveillance information exchange (ASTERIX) CAT.021. ASTERIX CAT.021 is modified several times, but it has compatibility issues with previous version of it. In this paper, we have designed an efficient message processing module regardless of the version of ASTERIX CAT.021. This implemented module generates patterns to collect messages received from the network, after that, received messages are processed in the routine that is defined in accordance with the patterns.

This paper presents an SAR-data calibration technique using a well-calibrated scatterometer. At first a fully-polarimetric antenna pattern(magnitude and phase) of the antenna main-beam using a conducting sphere was measured. Then, this data were used to calibrate polarimetrically an auto-mounted network analyzer-based scatterometer system. This scatterometer system can be used to measure the accurate Mueller matrices of earth surfaces such as grass fields, rice fields and bare soil surfaces; i.e., the phase-difference parameters can be obtained as well as the radar scattering coefficients. If a polarimetrically calibrated scatterometer is operated at the same time with the SAR system, the scatterometer data can be used to correct the SAR data, especially the phase-difference parameters. It was found that the correction effect is remarkable for the degree of correlation ${\alpha}$, which is one of the phase-difference parameter, while the correction effect is negligible for the magnitude parameters(backscattering coefficients).
The objective of this study was to measure backscattering coefficients of paddy rice using a L-, C-, and X-band scatterometer system with full polarization and various angles during the rice growth period and to relate backscattering coefficients to rice growth parameters. Radar backscattering measurements of paddy rice field using multifrequency (L, C, and X) and full polarization were conducted at an experimental field located in National Academy of Agricultural Science (NAAS), Suwon, Korea. The scatterometer system consists of dual-polarimetric square horn antennas, HP8720D vector network analyzer ($20\;MHz{\sim}20\;GHz$), RF cables, and a personal computer that controls frequency, polarization and data storage. The backscattering coefficients were calculated by applying radar equation for the measured at incidence angles between $20^{\circ}$ and $60^{\circ}$ with $5^{\circ}$ interval for four polarization (HH, VV, HV, VH), respectively. We measured the temporal variations of backscattering coefficients of the rice crop at L-, C-, X-band during a rice growth period. In three bands, VV-polarized backscattering coefficients were higher than hh-polarized backscattering coefficients during rooting stage (mid-June) and HH-polarized backscattering coefficients were higher than VV-, HV/VH-polarized backscattering coefficients after panicle initiation stage (mid-July). Cross polarized backscattering coefficients in X-band increased towards the heading stage (mid-Aug) and thereafter saturated, again increased near the harvesting season. Backscattering coefficients of range at X-band were lower than that of L-, C-band. HH-, VV-polarized ${\sigma}^{\circ}$ steadily increased toward panicle initiation stage and thereafter decreased, and again increased near the harvesting season. We plotted the relationship between backscattering coefficients with L-, C-, X-band and rice growth parameters. Biomass was correlated with L-band hh-polarization at a large incident angle. LAI (Leaf Area Index) was highly correlated with C-band HH- and cross-polarizations. Grain weight was correlated with backscattering coefficients of X-band VV-polarization at a large incidence angle. X-band was sensitive to grain maturity during the post heading stage.

Recently, the IoT (Internet of Things) environment is being developed rapidly through network which is linked to intellectual objects. Through the IoT, it is possible for human to intercommunicate with objects and objects to objects. Also, the IoT provides artificial intelligent service mixed with knowledge of situational awareness. One of the industries based on the IoT is a car industry. Nowadays, a self-driving vehicle which is not only fuel-efficient, smooth for traffic, but also puts top priority on eventual safety for humans became the most important conversation topic. Since several years ago, a research on the recognition of the surrounding environment for self-driving vehicles using sensors, lidar, camera, and radar techniques has been progressed actively. Currently, based on the WAVE (Wireless Access in Vehicular Environment), the research is being boosted by forming networking between vehicles, vehicle and infrastructures. In this paper, a research on the recognition of a traffic signs on highway was processed as a part of the awareness of the surrounding environment for self-driving vehicles. Through the traffic signs which have features of fixed standard and installation location, we provided a learning theory and a corresponding results of experiment about the way that a vehicle is aware of traffic signs and additional informations on it.
In this study, the target detection using both high-resolution satellite SAR and Elecro-Optical (EO) images such as TerraSAR-X and WorldView-2 is performed, considering the characteristics of targets. The targets of our interest are featured by being stationary and appearing as cluster targets. After the target detection of SAR image by using Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) algorithm, a series of processes is performed in order to reduce false alarms, including pixel clustering, network clustering and coherence analysis. We extend further our algorithm by adopting the fast and effective ellipse detection in EO image using randomized hough transform, which is significantly reducing the number of false alarms. The performance of proposed algorithm has been tested and analyzed on TerraSAR-X SAR and WordView-2 EO images. As a result, the average false alarm for group of targets is 1.8 groups/$64km^2$ and the false alarms of single target range from 0.03 to 0.3 targets/$km^2$. The results show that groups of targets are successfully identified with very low false alarms.
Geophysical survey of Korea was introduced in Nara National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage in 1995. At that time, it has been activated geophysical survey of architecture and civil engineering in Korea. But there was no exploration experts to be combined the archaeology. For this reason, National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage has introduced the physical exploration. Through the expert exchanges South Korea and Japan carried out joint exploration. And it has increased the reliability of the exploration method and exploration results. It is GPR the most method commonly in geophysical exploration. There are many usability before excavation because of good resolution. However, the shallow GPR penetration depth has limitations in large mounds. We were able to take advantage of the resistivity analysis program to study the underground structure to deep through the experts exchange. We was able to get a good result that overcomes the limitations of GPR exploration in a number of burial mounds including Naju bokamri by the resistivity analysis program. In particular, we confirmed the location of the burial main body by compares the results of exploration and excavation results. In the future we will perform a convergence research of exploration and archaeology through a variety of joint research. In addition we will have to build a new network of archaeological science.
