Asymptotic Approach to Pressure Drop and Heat Transfer in a Rectangular Pipe with Shear-thickening Fluids (사각형 단면 파이프 내에서의 Shear-thickening 유체를 이용한 압력강하 및 열전달 예측에 대한 점근적 해석)

  • 본 연구는 산업용 열교환기 및 상용 파이프의 최적 설계를 위하여 열교환기 내의 사각형 단면 파이프의 shear-thickening 비뉴톤 유체의 압력강하 및 대류 열전달률을 수치해석적으로 수행하였다. shear-thickening 유체의 구성 방정식은 기존의 비뉴톤 유체 멱법칙을 보완한 확장 멱법칙 모델을 채택하였다. 파이프 내의 압력강하를 의미하는 마찰계수와 확장 레이놀즈 수의 곱은 기존 연구의 비교자료와 비교할 때 뉴톤 유체 영역과 멱법칙 영역에서 각각 0.018% 및 0.06% 내에서 일치함을 보였고, 대류 열전달률을 의미하는 뉴셀트 수는 문헌치와 비교할 때 뉴톤 유체 영역과 멱법칙 영역에서 각각 0.025% 및 0.14% 내에서 일치함을 보였다. 비뉴톤 확장 멱법칙 유체 모델의 형태를 띠는 shear-thickening 유체를 열교환기 또는 상용파이프 내의 사각형 단면 파이프 내에서 사용하면 유동지수(n)에 따라서 뉴톤 유체보다 최대 160%의 압력강하를 증가시켰고 최대 14%의 대류 열전달 감소를 발생시킬 수 있었다.

입구유속의 진폭이 층류유동에서 사각실린더 주위의 와류쉐딩과 공진현상에 미치는 영향에 관한 수치해석적 연구

  • 유체내의 물체 주위에서 유동박리로 인해 생성되는 와류쉐딩은 열전달이나 물질전달을 촉진시키는 이점이 있으나, 항력을 증가시키거나 유동 및 온도의 요동에 의해 구조물을 손상시키는 단점이 있다. 특히 물체와 주위 유동 사이에 공진이 일어나면 항력값이 증가하면서 항력과 양력의 진폭이 급격히 증가하여 물체에 심각한 손상을 초래할 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 레이놀즈수 200 이하의 층류유동에서 공진시 물체 주위의 유동현상과 이로 인한 양력과 항력의 변화들을 수치해석방법을 통하여 분석하였다 수치해석은 일반좌표계에서 유한체적법을 적용하여 Navier-Stokes 방정식을 차분화하였다. 이때 방정식의 종속변수로는 공변속도를 채택하였으며, 이산화된 방정식은 분리단계법을 이용하여 수치해를 구하였다. 입구유속의 강제진동에 의한 사각실린더 주위의 와류쉐딩시 공진이 발생하는 강제진동수의 범위는 원통실린더의 경우와 유사하였으나 상대적으로 폭이 더 좁았다 그리고 공진이 발생하는 강제진동수의 범위는 진폭이 증가할수록 증가하였다. 쉐딩 진동수가 일정하면서 입구유속의 진폭이 증가하면 이에 비례하여 실린더 주위의 유속이 상대적으로 증가하게 되어 와도가 강해지면서 입추유속 진폭에 비례하여 항력의 평균값 뿐 아니라 항력과 양력의 진폭도 증가하였다. 그리고 실린더 뒷면의 와류 생성영역은 진폭에 비례하여 감소하였다. 진폭의 변화에 따라 상변화가 서로 상이한 것은 실린더 뒤쪽의 와류들이 상하면의 합력차이를 변화시켰고 이것이 진폭변화에 따라 상변화를 상이하게 나타나게 한 원인으로 진폭이 클수록 실린더 뒤쪽에서 압력변화가 심하게 변하면서 실린더 앞쪽까지 더 많은 영향을 미쳤기 때문이다.선원의 사용자에게 제공되는 최종방사능을 평가하는데 유용하게 사용될 수 있다.r의 분포를 보였다.cting the effect of earthquake on structures.   • Aerodynamic characteristics over Micro Aerial Vehicle(MAV) in low Reynolds number regime are numerically studied using 3-D unsteady, incompressible Navier-Stokes flow solver with single partitioning method for multi-block grid. For more efficient computation of unsteady flows, this flow solver is parallel-implemented with MPl(Message Passing Interface) programming method. Firstly, MAV wing with not complex geometry is considered and then, we analyze aerodynamic characteristics over full MAV configuration varying the angle of attack. Present computational results show a better agreement with the experimental data by MACDL(Micro Aerodynamic Control and Design Lab.), Seoul National University. We can also find the conceptually designed MAV by MACDL has the static stability.

  • A consideration on the trubulence models for describing the redeveloping turbulent boundary layer beyond separation-reattachment in the flow over a backward-facing step is given through experimental and numerical studies. By considering the blance among the measured values of respective terms in the transport equations for the turbulent kinetic energy and the turbulent shear stress, the recovering process of the redeveloping boundary layer from non-equilibrium to equilibrium has been investigated, which takes place slowly over a substantial distance in the downstream direction. In the numerical study, the standard K-.epsilon. model and the Reynolds stress model have been applied to two kinds of flow regions, one for the entire downstream region after the backward-facing step and another for the downstream region after reattachment. Then the results are compared to a meaningful extent, with the experimental values of the turbulent kinetic energy k, the turbulent energy production term P, the dissipation term K-.epsilon. model, a necessity for a new modelling has been brought forward, which can be also applied to the case of the nonequlibrium turbulent flow.

Thermal Deformation Induced Preload Changein the Tilting Pad Journal Bearing (열변형으로 인한 틸팅패드 저널베어링의 예압 변화)

  • This paper focuses on the thermal deformation induced preload change in the tilting pad journal bearing, using a three-dimensional (3D) thermo-hydro-dynamic (THD) approach. Preload is considered as a critical factor in designing the tilting pad journal bearing. The initial preload measured under nil external load and nil thermal gradient is influenced by two factors, namely, the thermal deformation and elastic deformation. Thermal deformation is due to a temperature distribution in the bearing pads, whereas the elastic deformation is due to fluid forces acting on the pads. This study focuses on the changes induced in preload and film clearance due to thermal deformation. The generalized Reynolds equation is used to evaluate the force of the fluid and the 3D energy equation is used to calculate the temperature of the lubricant. The abovementioned equations are combined by establishing a relationship between viscosity and temperature. The heat transfer within the bearing pads, the lubricant, and the spinning journal is calculated using the heat flux boundary condition. The 3D Finite Element Method (FEM) is used in modeling the (1) heat conduction in the spinning journal and bearing pads, (2) thermal gradient induced thermal distortion of the spinning journal and pads, and (3) viscous shearing, and heat conduction and convection in a thin film. This evaluation method has an increased fidelity, and it can prove to be a cost-effective tool that can be used by designers to predict the dynamic behavior of a bearing.

Analysis of Spray Combustion for the Performance Prediction of Liquid Rocket Combustor (3차원 분무연소장 해석에 의한 액체추진기관 연소실 성능예측에 대한 연구)

  • In this paper, numerical experiment is attempted to analyze and compare the combustion efficiency of the burning sprays due to OFO, FOF triplet / FOOF split doublet injectors. Preconditioned Wavier-Stokes equation system with low Reynolds number $\kappa$-$\varepsilon$ model for turbulence closure, is LU-SGS time-integrated. Spray processes are modeled by DSF analysis with experimentally determined injection characteristics. n-heptane/air global reaction model approximates the combustion for simplicity, and the influence of turbulence on the chemical reaction is included using eddy dissipation model. The results showed the FOF triplet injector of highest combustion efficiency, whereas the OFO type of poet performance. It was also observed that the droplet mean diameter and the average gas temperature due to the mixing efficiency, are the representative parameters for the performance design of combustion.

Compressibility Correction Effects of Two-equation Turbulence Models for a Supersonic Through-type Pintle Nozzle with Large Scale Separation Flow (큰 박리유동을 동반한 초음속 관통형 핀틀노즐 유동에 적합한 2-방정식 난류모델의 압축성계수 보정 영향)

  • Numerical simulations have been performed for assessment of compressibility correction of two-equation turbulent models suitable for large scale separation flows perturbed by a pintle strokes. Two-equation turbulence models, the low Reynolds k-${\varepsilon}$ and the k-${\omega}$ SST models with or without compressibility correction proposed by Wilcox and Sarkar are evaluated. The detail flow structures are observed and static pressures along nozzle wall are compared with experimental results. Mach disk location and pressure recovery profiles in flow separation region are noticeably distinct between turbulent models of k-${\varepsilon}$ and k-${\omega}$ SST. The compressible effect corrections to those models improve resolving of separation flow behaviors. The compressibility corrections to k-${\varepsilon}$ model have provided very comparable results with test data.

  • This study presents numerical simulation of turbulent flows in a rectangular open-channel that has a width-to-depth ratio of 2 using the source code provided by OpenFOAM. Large eddy simulations are carried out by solving the filtered continuity and momentum equations numerically. For the non-isotropic residual stress term, Smagorinsky's (1963) model is used. The flow in the open-channel whose width-to-depth ratio is 2, from experiment of Tominaga et al. (1989), is simulated numerically. Simulation results are compared with measured data by Tominga et al. (1989) and Nezu and Rodi (1985) and with LES data by Shi et al. (1999). Comparisons revealed that the model simulates the mean flow and turbulence statistics well. Specifically, the model reproduced the inner secondary currents located at the corner of sidewall and free surface successfully. In addition, the vortical component of turbulence intensity shows bulged contours towards the bottom edge.

  • Turbulent flows around two-dimensional wing sections in ground effect are analysed by incompressible RANS equations and a finite difference method. The Baldwin-Lomax algebraic turbulence model is used to simulate high Reynolds number flows. The main purpose of this study is to clarify the two-dimensional ground effect and its flow characteristics due to different ground boundary conditions, i.e., moving and fixed bottom boundary. As a first step, to validate the present numerical code, the computational result of Clark-Y(t/C 11.7%) is compared with published numerical results and experimental data. Then, NACA4412 section in ground effect is calculated for various ground clearances with two bottom boundary conditions. According to the computational results, the difference in the lift and moment simulated with the two bottom boundary conditions is negligible, but the drag force simulated by the fixed bottom is to some extent smaller than that by the moving bottom. Therefore, it can be concluded that the drag force measured in a wind tunnel with the fixed bottom could be smaller than that with the moving bottom.

AERODYNAMIC STUDY ON BOBSLEIGH BUMPER SHAPE (봅슬레이 범퍼 형상에 대한 공력학적 연구)

  • A parametric study on the shapes of bobsleigh bumpers has been performed to reduce the aerodynamic drag. Effects of geometric parameters, such as leading angle of leading bumper, the ratio of minimum width to maximum width of leading bumper, the ratio of leading bumper length to trailing bumper length, trailing angle of trailing bumper, and the ratio of bumper height to installation location of bumper from the bottom of bobsleigh, on the aerodynamic performance of the bobsleigh were estimated using 3-D Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes equations. The turbulence was analyzed using the shear stress turbulence model. Reynolds number based on the hydraulic diameter of the external flow channel was in the range of 150,000~1,000,000. Numerical results for drag coefficient were validated compared to experimental data. Ranges of the five geometric parameters were determined according to the rule of Federation Internationale de Bobsleigh et de Tobaganning. The aerodynamic performance of the bobsleigh sled was most sensitive to the leading angle of leading bumper and the ratio of minimum width to maximum width of leading bumper.
