  • Latex modified concrete(LMC) became to be applied as a new material for newly constructed bridge deck overlays in Korea due to its excellent bond strength, flexural strength and impermeability against water and chloride. However, it could not be adopted at repair job site because of its long curing time required. Thus, a research on latex modified concrete with rapid-setting cement(RSLMC) is necessary if it could develope the sufficient strength for early opening to traffic. This study focused on the durability of latex modified concrete with rapid-setting cement mainly on water permeable resistance and freeze-thaw resistance. The main experimental variables were latex contents(0, 5, 10, 15 and 20%) and antifoamer contents (0, 1.6, 3.2, 4.8 and 6.4%). Test results show that the permeability of RSLMC is very low indicating below 100 coulombs at 15% of latex contents at all antifoamer contents. The freeze-thaw resistance of RSLMC maintains above 90% of relative dynamic modulus at 3.2% of antifoamer content until 300 freezing-thawing cycles.

  • RS-LMC (Rapid Setting Latex Modified Concrete) has been widely used as repair material for bridge deck overlay or rehabilitation, because the overlaid pavement could be opened to the traffic after 3 hours of curing. Although the field performance of RS-LMC generally indicates that it has an excellent bonding to the substrate and shows a long term performance, the crack by vibration of vehicles have been happened on the overlay of bridges in technical reports. In this study, experimental research was carried out to evaluate the vibration properties of RS-LMC overlays by using P.S.T (Pavement Shaking Table). Total 12 specimens were tested and the variables are Latex-cement ratio (L/C) and amplitude of vibration. The result shows that the number of cracks and the total length of cracks are reduced as the increase of Latex-cement ratio (L/C) until 15%. And the crack occurs at a very small strain than the proposed values by Walter, D, G and design codes.

  • An increase in the amount of cracking in repaired concrete bridge decks using VES-LMC(Very Early Strength - Latex Modified Concrete ; below VES-LMC) has been noticed by Yun et al(1). Literature indicates that indeed many concrete bridge decks develop transverse cracking, most developing at early ages(3~7 days), many right after construction. The purpose of this study was to establish prevention of map, transverse and longitudinal cracking in VES-LMC and to provide a control methods for minimizing the occurrence of cracks. The proposed prevention against map and transverse cracking was verified by field applications. VES cement was modified, the unit cement contents was reduced into $360kg/m^3$ from $390kg/m^3$, the maximum size of coarse aggregate was increase into 19mm from 13mm, wire mesh and steel fibers were incorporated in concrete mixture. A series of variable combinations were attempted. As a results, the proposed prevention against map and transverse cracking was verified because no crack were occurred until 90 days after overlay.

  • This study is thing for construction properties that protect about damage of waterproofing course that is problem in asphalt pavement and latex modification concrete pavement. It is thing about new method of construction and develop protecting material of waterproofing. Did performance test item first at, as a result, drew by suitable thing in all KS items, This is considered to have more effective spot construction work because if means that have stability by material as well as method construction.
