A VoiceXML-based EPG Retrieval System (VoiceXML기반 EPG 검색 시스템)

  • Recent commencement of digital broadcasting has enabled various TV programs through hundreds of channels. As a result, it becomes a time-consuming job for the TV audience to look up newspaper or TV magazines for the schedule of a specific TV program. To relieve this problem, digital broadcasting usually provides an EPG(Electronic Program Guide) for the audience. Currently. most EPG services are focusing on the visual delivery of information through a web site, digital TV or mobile devices. However, this approach could cause a serious restriction to some users including drivers or visually handicapped persons, who can't input keywords for the search. In order to solve this problem, in this paper, we propose a VoiceXML-based EPG retrieval system that enables even such special users to browse EPG. conveniently using a mobile phone. We implemented a prototype system and proved its effectiveness through experiments.

  • Now Broadcasting system of TV has been developed from analogue to digital we call that IPTV(Internet Protocol Television) or DCATV(Digital Cable Television). But, The characteristics of digital broadcasting is the high-quality contents of easily and almost no damage piracy, and Copyright loss is increasing by Internet, P2P(Peer to Peer) and personal path. Nevertheless user's permissions that recorded and reuse of broadcasting can't restraint, And Training Materials etc. use of fair program needs to be separated from illegality. In this paper using a digital certificate permit the use of stored program to authorized user and user of fair purpose, And illegal distribution of restriction design and implement a distribution system.

A Study on the Impact of Cable TV 8VSB Conversion on Subscriber Retention and Consumer Welfare (케이블TV 8VSB 전환이 가입자 유지 및 소비자 후생에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구)

  • In this study, the impact on the number of cable TV subscribers as well as the profit of cable TV has been examined, and the impact on enlarging the digital broadcast viewing rights of cable TV subscribers and viewers' welfare has also been examined. We investigated the trends in the number of analog and 8VSB subscribers and revenue of cable TV operators by region and analyzed based on changes in the number of channels provided by each operator. The results show that analog subscribers and digital subscribers are delaying their departure through 8VSB conversion, and VOD subscription fees and home shopping transmission fees have a significant impact on operating profit. Subscribers, as they switched over to 8VSB, have become able to view channels of various genres with clear picture quality for a same subscription fee, and the program providers could offer programs to more customers. The government's deregulation policy due to the changes in broadcasting environment led to the facilitation of digital conversion of Pay-TV and improvement of viewers' welfare.

Design of Broadband Planar Dipole Antenna for Indoor Digital TV Reception (실내 디지털 TV 수신용 광대역 평면 다이폴 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper, a design method for a broadband planar dipole antenna for terrestrial digital television (DTV) reception is studied. The dipole is modified to half bow-tie type for size reduction. The balun between feeding microstrip line and coplanar strip (CPS) line is implemented with a rectangular patch inserted along the center of the CPS line. The proposed antenna is the structure of dual resonances, one is due to the dipole and the other is due to the CPS line attached by the balun. The effects of various geometrical parameters on the antenna performance are examined, and the antenna is designed for terrestrial DTV band (470-806 MHz). The prototype antenna is fabricated on an FR4 substrate with a size of $95mm{\times}178mm$, and tested experimentally to verify the results of this study.

  • In this paper we consider technological requirements to broadcast digital television signals using single frequency networks (SFN) in the Advanced Television Systems Committee (ATSC) transmission systems and propose equalization digital on-channel repeater (EDOCR) that overcomes the limitations of conventional digital on-channel repeaters (DOCRs). Since there are no forward error correction (FEC) decoder and encoder, the EDOCR does not have an ambiguity problem. In addition, since an adaptive equalizer in the EDOCR removes multi-path signals, additive white Gaussian noise (A WGN), and feedback signal due to low antenna isolation, the EDOCR may have good output signal quality with high power.

  • This study explores that how the logic of network power in the existing digital content distribution structure works against local media. The limitless citation of local media content, in particular, is becoming more common in order to profit from network traffic while not giving appropriate remuneration for local media content. This study tried to demonstrate how network media dominance alienates local media material by using YouTube network analysis of TV Maile Shinmun. According to the research result, it was found that major news media tends to take profits from the local media interview by not properly indicating the source video, or reporting the core content of the local media interview, making it unnecessary to look for the original video source. Despite the viewpoint that the digital environment presents opportunities for local media, the current network logic would not benefit local media, which calls for the need that the digital content distribution strategy of local media develops a new order such as NFT, one of blockchain-based monetary system.h the help of information technology.

A Study on the change of documentary background music according to the digitalization of broadcasting (방송의 디지털화와 텔레비전 다큐멘터리 배경음악의 변화 -생산자의 심층인터뷰를 중심으로)

  • By employing in-depth interviews with a total of 14 television producers, the study seeks to investigate how the use of documentary background music has changed in the rapidly evolving media technology. This study reveals two major findings. First, the use of traditional compositional background music in TV documentary has been decreased for the last 20 years, while library music with various sound sources has been more likely to be used due to its artistic value, its digitalized formats, and its convenience. Second, the popularity of the library music use has changed the cooperative relationship between TV documentary producers and music directors, and their views on background music. Overall, compared to the past, the new media technology (e.g., much easier, faster editing process and communication through e-mails) has helped to come up with the current trend of using more library music. This trend however implies that the dependency of library music only may lose the unique value of television documentary as a work of creative art and eventually downgrade the quality of the programs. Further practical implications are discussed.

  • 이제 우리는 텔레비전 프로그램을 이동전화기로 보는데 익숙하다. 방송과 통신융합의 패러다임이 가져 온 변화에 빠르게 적응해나가고 있으며, 그 중심에 모바일 TV가 있다. 하지만 시청하는 미디어 기기만 다를 뿐, 플랫폼에 적합한 새롭고 참신한 콘텐츠를 찾아보기란 매우 어렵다. 이동 중 시청이 편리한 모바일 TV가 단순한 재방송 시청을 위한 기기에 불과하다면 분명히 문제가 있다. 본 연구에서는 양방향, 위치기반서비스, 가속도센서 등으로 중무장한 스마트폰과 모바일 TV의 마리아주를 통해 모바일 TV 3.0의 신개념을 제안하고, 이를 중심으로 한 차별화된 프로그램 장르별 제작 방안을 모색하고자 한다.
