A Study on Transmedia Storytelling Strategy of Local Government Character (지방자치단체 캐릭터의 트랜스미디어 스토리텔링 전략 연구)

  • With the support of the government and public institutions, local government characters achieved a lot of quantitative growth. However, there are very few successful cases such as strengthening local identity and revitalizing the local economy using characters. This paper presents a transmedia storytelling strategy as a way to solve the problem of local government characters. To do so, I identify the problems of the current local government characters, and analyze the preceding studies on the features and components of transmedia contents, and the principles of transmedia storytelling, to develop strategies and yielded the expected effect. The transmedia strategy of local government characters consists of a total of three stages. In the first step, the local identity is established through the development of a unique story to the region. The second step, improve attractivity by renewing character design for various individual media platforms. And lastly the third step, enhance usability by expanding interactivity based on communication and participation of development actors and the public. This paper is meaningful in that it derives a transmedia storytelling strategy from the perspective of brand marketing as a way to revitalize local government characters. Based on the conclusions drawn from this study, a follow-up study is needed to apply it to specific cases of local government characters.

  • The potential competency from the animation industry, as known as a foundation which spawned a variety contents from the piece of work, has a high importance in the content development field. The pivotal role of the domestic animation industry has produced the term of convergence content which composed by both educational elements and entertainment features especially from the domestic kids TV animation industry. This study analysis the ideal indicator of the preferred characteristic design being broadcasted on EBS, not only presenting the status of the character proportion rates but also proposing the creative aesthetic indication where the substantial leverage would be available as the purpose of this research.

  • 애니메이션 영웅 캐릭터는 캐릭터의 한 카테고리로서 캐릭터 특유의 특징과 함께 전통적 이데올로기를 암묵적으로 전달하고 있다. 이들 애니메이션 영웅이 전달하는 전통적 메시지는 문화적 개성에 대한 심벌을 재해석하여 관객들에게 전통문화가 거부감없이 쉽게 받아들여지도록 하는 것이다. 애니메이션 <백사(White Snake, 2019)>는 중국에서 잘 알려진 백소정과 허선의 사랑이야기를 소재로 한것으로서 전통사상과 전통의상을 살리면서도 스토리텔링과 이미지 컨셉, 애니메이팅등의 시각적 요소들을 글로벌한 공감대를 얻을 수 있도록 노력한 흔적들을 보여주고 있다. 본문에서는 동양 애니메이션에서의 히어로 캐릭터와 디즈니 캐릭터 간의 차이점과 그 가치를 애니메이션<백사>를 통해 분석해보고 이를 통해 애니메이션 창작에 미치는 영향과 역할을 도출해보려 하였다.

  • This research has chosen the animation character creation as a part of research for effective communication with audience due to the character taste getting diversity. The way of characters creation in this research suggest as follows. First, animation character action and a way of thinking, which makes regulation factor is a global outlook. It expresses a outer factors include appearance, style, action, facial expressions, tone of voice, hobbies, occupation, status and internal factors shows nature, conception, culture. Second, the given condition of general tendency of animation character, Cultural background, and Key characteristics and experiences is built up by global outlook. Third, the attractive of animation character show up the familiarity, originality, fun, various senses, and flexibility. Fourth, it is harmony of new global outlook and character. The establishment of animation character is that the familiarity which is easy approach to audience with special global outlook, the originality which is different from other works, fun with laugh, at different times in different ways to interact with more flexibility, various sense to be delivered to audience for easy setting is the most desirable.

  • This study is aims to examine how the skeleton character in Pixar's Animation is visualized for the narrative of the film and suggests the direction of attractive character development corresponding to the story. First of all, it was conducted the case studies on the narrative of animation, character design, character's emotion expression, and animations featuring skeleton character. Based on this study, it was derived the visual representation of the skeleton character featuring in and analyzed the role and function in the animation. As a result, the expressions by the skeleton's eyes, eyebrows, mouth, lips, and jaw played the most important role for the emotional expression and lines in , and the major characteristic for human facial expression was reflected in the design of the skeleton character. In addition, the various props were used to provide the detailed informations of the skeleton's character, and it was expressed the movement emphasizing its essential attribute. Finally, the skeleton's symbolic image was strengthened by composing and arranging the skeleton's image through Mise en scene. It is expected that this study will be used as a reference for the animation character related researchers and practitioners in the business and it helps develop attractive characters fir the narrative animation in the future.

A Study on the Promotion of the Characters in the Local Governments, Japan (일본 지방자치단체 캐릭터의 프로모션 연구)

  • Since South Korean government pushed ahead with decentralization system in 1990s, each local government has developed 'local government's character' so that communication between local residents and between local government and residents could be going well for rural solidarity. Local governments have designed their sole symbolic characters, applied the characters to local specialities and tourist goods, and used the designed characters for the promotion of area. There is no difference between South Korea and Japan in the function of local government's character as above-mentioned details. However, 'Yuru-chara' characters which are designed by local governments in Japan are rising dramatically in the field of Japanese major characters. 'Yuru-chara' characters' name awareness is expanded to the entire area of Japan as well as the designed area. A remarkable difference in how to promote character rather than character design caused such a successful outcome. The local governments in Japan carried out a promotion for local residents in various, friendly, and active ways, utilized local government's character as a way to publicize the image of area, and turned the character into products to bring additional effects. In the above process, there was a remarkable difference between Japan and South Korea. The purpose of this study was to research detail data related to the characters of the local governments in Japan, to analyze the promotion of the characters, and to suggest a strategy for promoting the characters of the local governments in South Korea.

An Analysis on the Formative Requirements for Hybrid Characters and Influencing Relationship with Consumer Preference (하이브리드 캐릭터의 조형 요건과 소비자 선호도와의 영향관계 분석)

  • Hybrid is explained based on the logic of combination such as cross, melding, permeation, fusion, convergence etc. Such combination shows that it is more creative and effective in case of heterogeneity as compared to homogeneity and the same kind, and hybrid character has its meaning as a mean to produce a new creative image. In the context, this study aims to analyze influencing relationship through a practical analysis on how formative requirements for hybrid characters affects consumer preference. For the foregoing, this study conducted multiple regression analysis having familiarity, originality, meaningfulness, diversity as independent variables for formative requirements for characters, and consumer preference as a dependent variable. Analysis results show that familiarity, originality, diversity have a positive effect on consumers, whereas, meaningfulness has no significant impact on the consumer preference.

  • Character customization means a series of processes to build a characters. Mobile character customizing system is very scarce than Online RPG system qualitatively or quantitatively. In this paper, I will propose some effective elements about A DIY character system that must be suitable for the mobile environment system. The reasons why Select System is mainly used as the customizing system in RPG are as follows; First, the screen of a mobile device is small; Second, it is due to the space-time characteristics with which mobile games are played. In the middle of playing a game, a customizing system should be adopted in order for players not to feel bored. In addition, avatar's costumes should be continually updated.

  • Domestic kids TV animation industry is settled well in domestic animation industry by adding both entertainment value and educational value. Specially, the character that represents various rolls in the kids TV animation is the core visual element. This study is the analysis for character's subject matter of expression. For this, I established the tool which could classify character's subject matter of expression, and apply the tool to the character which were selected in broadcasting kids TV animations on EBS. Through this procedure, I analyzed character's subject matter of expression with the distribution chart as the final step. In addition, I hope the result of this study could intend to provide the index of the character creation in the kids TV animation and also informed the current situation about the character's subject matter of expression in the kids TV animation.
