Metaphor thinking is a kind of intuitive thinking and plays a central role in design process. But there are not many researches on this topic because it happens in designer's mind during design problem solving. In this paper, we considered cognitive aspects of metaphorical thinking as they cropped up in the process of design concepts development. As a method of cognitive experiment we used a protocol analysis of the design review reports. At the end of this research we concluded that metaphorical thinking is engaged in restructuring of new frames and reconciliation of conflicting frames for the development of new design ideas and concepts. This role of metaphorical thinking makes the design thinking divergent and the design process creative.

This current study employs multi-year design-based research to design and implement a course in teacher education in Korea. Specifically this paper reports our first attempt to work with 3 primary in-service teachers majoring in computer education. We have incorporated design thinking (DT) into the course design and investigated how primary teachers appreciate the role of DT and recognize the connection between teaching computational thinking and DT. This qualitative study reports the course design, its progression, reflections, and learning outcomes.

This thesis concentrates on modern design with understanding the ooncept of design thinking. Functionalism and exactness in design result from the project that modern design attempted to change everyday life with mechanical design language. There is thought to be convenient and profitable, to link a function and a need, to make something with building-up process, and to give judgement something by dualism in the other side. That thoughts were produced by not only transition of production system from by hand to by machine but also atmosphere of society that enables one to know himself as a member of modern age.

This research is that it could use a theory from a .cognitive science, making a hypothesis to explain the thingking steps of designing, adapting the problem solving of the design from knowledge of a cognitive science, to meet the possiblity which it can be developed the new way of the thinking. Design is a field where it needs a complexity with hi-brain activities. And cognitive science is a science which it study human brain activities. However, it is also quite possible to bo adaped over all design by linking with design and cognitive science. I explaned the ideation of the thinking steps on this study by the knowledge of cognitive science, to observe to be possible. I found out the new ways of possibilities from design thinking process. It is a result that I've been interpretated the design process and the thinking process out of the theory of knowledge structure.

엘리베이터에서의 어린이의 안전사고가 지속적으로 발생하고 있으나 현재 사용되는 보호자 중심의 주의표지는 효과적인 사고의 예방이 어렵다. 본 연구에서는 방재디자인을 기반으로 엘리베이터에서의 어린이 손끼임 사고의 예방을 위하여 국내외 주의표지 디자인을 분석하고 디자인 가이드라인을 적용하여 어린이 중심의 손끼임 방지 주의표지를 제안하였으며 대전 소재 어린이집의 어린이 34명을 대상으로 한 위험성 표시 평가를 통하여 선정된 어린이 중심의 주의표지는 엘리베이터에서의 어린이 손끼임 사고의 예방에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

Graphic thinking for the idea sketches brings about variations between abstract realm and concrete one, and between conceptual realm and perceptual one. When design information is projected to the thinking process, some images are generated, and transformed. We reviewed the sketching devices for computerization to deal with a lot of design data in the computing environment. The LCD Tablet can be a substitute for the Pen & Paper to get rid of irksome tasks at handling the design data. Using a protocol analysis technique, we examined the influences of different design information, which is consisted of verbal concepts and/or visual images, and abstract information and/or concrete one. The findings show that there are no significant differences of influences between verbal/visual information and abstract concrete information at the conceptual design. These facts support that graphic thinking process is progressed with the perceptual and mental image.

Korea's design developed closely related to economic growth and plays a key role in material growth, wealth growth, and consumption promotion today. Of course, it is true that Korea's design level has grown significantly, but it has not reached a trend-leading level. Behind this, it is thought that one of the reasons behind this is that most design companies are biased towards trend research and benchmarking from a supplier perspective, resulting in the creation of design sculptures. If you look at the examples that lead the world's design trends, you can see that their subjective thinking from the author's point of view accounts for a significant portion of design sculpture creation. Through an in-depth interview with designers and artists at both extremes of the spectrum of thought, I want to look at examples of self-expression design development and get implications for suggesting conceptual models of self-expression design sculpture. Through this, a conceptual model was proposed, which is organized into a five-step design creation process in which balanced thinking is achieved by combining the thinking system and process according to the writer's point of view with the majority of design creation dominated by supplier perspective.

Thinking mode, as the condensation of the internal spirit of a nation, has been inherited till now through abundant historical precipitation, and is also a thinking tool for people to think and solve problems. Different from traditional styles and materials, the way of thinking not only has a more essential impact on design, but also makes traditional culture more vital in design. Taking the influence of Chinese mode of thinking on design thinking as the main research object, in the first place, this paper sorts out the concepts and development of thinking mode and design thinking, and summarizes three characteristics of Chinese mode of thinking: relational, collective and perceptive. Furthermore, it puts forward the influence of thinking mode on design thinking, mainly focusing on the definition of design problems, sub-problem sequencing and solution construction. Last but not least, through a series of Chinese design cases, this paper concretely analyzes how Chinese thinking mode provides national design language for Chinese design.

Creativity, the ability to produce through imaginative skill, is pursued by all designers. However, originality does not refer to absolute novelty. In this age, information is shared and disseminated. Creation of works is an activity to re-establish all shared information and reorganize relationship among things. Therefore, a new design is a product of reorganization rather than originality. Moreover, designers can generate ideas different from each other because they individually espouse different system of knowledge. From such perspective, a very important task of designers is to explore methods of expanding design thinking that can enhance the ability to new connection among things in the process of assimilation and modification. The task can be carried out by identifying characteristics and limits of their unique system of knowledge. Therefore, it is necessary to seek methods of expanding design thinking for efficient cognitive activities. In explaining human knowledge, this study applied semantic network, a method used in cognitive science for creating structure, and the method of expanding design thought was proposed by corresponding method of design conceptualization. By organizing, categorizing, and flexibly combining and modifying the methods of design thinking conceptualization and expansion generated by this study, strengths of each method were enhanced and limits of each method were overcome to enable more effective design thinking. In this study, the method of expansion was used when connecting of nodes cannot be sustained after using each method of conceptualization. By avoiding unique method of thinking through diversification and vitalization of conditional points, efficient design thinking was achieved. The value of this study lies in the fact that the proposed method of expanding thinking using the mechanism of network enhances the ability to establish new connections in the process of assimilation and modification.

Negligent accidents in urban railway station not only give damages to users but also cause avoidance of public transport usage. This study aims to identify design factors in designing urban railway station for reducing and preventing negligent accidents in the station. Especially this study identifies design factors from the perspectives of universal design concept which is for all persons. This study classified negligent accidents in urban railway stations, analysed degree of danger and identified the causes of accidents. Then this study identified universal design factors based on the results of analysis on the priority of accident factors relating to negligent accidents. The results of this study can be utilized as basic data in designing urban railway station for reducing and preventing negligent accident in urban railway station.
