The structural parameters such as Lc, La and d of $CO_2$activated isotropic carbon fibers(ACFs) were obtained from XRD in order to understand a development mechanism of micropores. And the structural parameters were compared with specific surface area(SSA) data. The $d_{002}$, Lc, and La of the original fiber were measured to be 4.04$\AA$, 6.2$\AA$, and 23.6$\AA$, respectively. Carbonization of outer-parts and oxidization of inner-parts of the original fibers were far from completeness. It was observed that the structural changes of the ACFs during activation take place severely, therefore the carbonization and the oxidization of the fibers take place simultaneous with pore developments. The $d_{002}$ of the ACFs was increased to be 2.80$\AA$, and the La of the ACFs was decreased to be 17.0$\AA$ by activation. It was shown that the pores are developed continuously from the outer-parts to the inner-parts of the fibers, therefore the SSA increases as a result of the development of pores fully to the inner-parts of the fiber when the burn-off degree was over :39%. It seems that the (002) planes of crystallites contribute to the micropore wall related to the super high SSA.SSA.
In this paper, damage induced acoustic emission in the composite plate in numerically simulated by using the three dimensional finite element method and explicit time integration. Acoustic source is modeled by equivalent volume source. To verify the proposed method, dynamic displacements due to the elastic wave are compared with the experiment when the fiber is broken in the single fiber embedded isotropic plate. For the laminated composite plates, the results are compared between homogenized model and DNS approach which models fibers and matrix separately. To capture high frequencies in the elastic wave, small time step size and a large number of meshes are required. The parallel computing technology is introduced to solve a large scale problem efficiently.
Wear mechanisms may be briefly classified by mechanical, chemical and thermal wear. A plane strain finite element method is used with a new material stress and temperature fields to simulate orthogonal machining with continuous chip formation. Deformation of the workpiece material is healed as elastic-viscoplastic with isotropic strain hardening and the numerical solution accounts for coupling between plastic deformation and the temperature field, including treatment of temperature-dependent material properties. Effect of the uncertainty in the constitutive model on the distributions of strait stress and temperature around the shear zone are presented, and the model is validated by comparing average values of the predicted stress, strain, and temperature at the shear zone with experimental results.
In this paper result of an analytical investigation pertaining to the elastic buckling behavior of orthotropic plate under combined in-plane shear and bending forces is presented. The existing analytical solution developed for the isotropic plates is extended so that the orthotropic material properties can be taken into account in the buckling analysis of web plate. For the solution of the problems Rayleigh-Ritz method is employed. Graphical form of results for finding the elastic buckling strength of orthotropic plate under combined in-plane shear and bending forces is presented. Brief discussion on the design criteria for the shear and bending interaction is also presented.
Velocities of leaky surface acoustic waves (LSAW/sub s/) were measured by using a line-focus polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) transducer and compared with theoretically calculated ones. Isotropic materials of Cu, Al, fused quartz, and anisotropic one of Z-cut α-quartz crystal were used as specimens. The velocities were obtained by the separation time between wave components reflected directly from the surface of specimen and LSAW components according to the defocusing distance. The measured velocities well agree with the theoretical results within 1% error, and it was shown that the leaky pseudo-surface acoustic wave (LPSAW) as well as the LSAW propagates with the typical 6-fold anisotropy on the (0,0,1) surface of α-quartz.

Isotropic conductive adhesives (ICAs) have been used or considered as an interconnect material for radio frequency identification (RFID) inlays or other flip chip assemblies due to the advantages of having a low temperature and high-speed bonding. In this work, the curing properties of commercial ICAs for the RFID tag application and the signal transmission in conductive lines that contained the ICA joints were evaluated as a function of the degree of cure at 900 MHz frequency range. The ICAs showed adequate signal transmission only after the curing process passed over the critical time. It was also found that the insertion loss of signal was more dependent on the contact states of Ag fillers in the bondline in preference to the electrical resistance of the ICA itself.

A study was performed to investigate the dynamic behaviors of fiber-reinforced composite materials subjected to transversely low-velocity impact. For this purpose, the simulation of modified beam finite element based on higher order beam theory for two(isotropic and anisotropic) materials is carried out according to the changes of material property, stacking sequence, geometric dimension and impact velocity of steel ball, etc. Main composite materials for simulation are composed of $[0^{\circ}/90^{\circ}/0^{\circ}/-90^{\circ}/0^{\circ}]_{2s}$, $[0^{\circ}/90^{\circ}/0^{\circ}/-90^{\circ}/0^{\circ}]_s$ and $[0^{\circ}/45^{\circ}/0^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}/0^{\circ}]_{2s}$, $[0^{\circ}/45^{\circ}/0^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}/0^{\circ}]_s$ stacking sequences. The effectiveness of this simulation for qualitative and quantitative evaluations in composite materials subjected to foreign object impact was established.
