Betterment of Mobile Sign Language Recognition System (모바일 수화 인식 시스템의 개선에 관한 연구)

  • This paper presents a development of a mobile sign language recognition system for daily communication of deaf people, who are sign dependent to access language, with hearing people. The system observes their sign by a cap-mounted camera and accelerometers equipped on wrists. To create a real application working in mobile environment, which is a harder recognition problem than lab environment due to illumination change and real-time requirement, a robust hand segmentation method is introduced and HMMs are adopted with a strong grammar. The result shows 99.07% word accuracy in continuous sign.

A Robust Sensorless speed control of Sensorless BLDC Motor (센서리스 BLDC 전동기의 강인한 속도 제어)

  • The sensorless speed control technique for BLDC motor using digital IP control is proposed in this paper for advanced speed characteristic which is robust to motor parameters and load variations. The sensorless drive of BLDC motor using terminal voltages is affected by load or speed because it uses analog filters to estimate the rotor position. For this reason, the robust speed controller with the accurate rotor position estimator is needed for sensorless control which is robust to load and insensitive to motor parameters. The constant speed robust to load variation and the stable sensorless control of BLDC motor robust to the increase or decrease of speed with constant load is implemented using digital IP control in this paper. The validity to these is established with experimentation.

  • 염료감응형 태양전지는 투명성과 광입사각 둔감성 등의 장점을 바탕으로 미래 태양전지 시장을 주도할 수 있을 것으로 기대되고 있다. 이러한 염료감응형 태양전지의 실용화를 위해서는 고효율 연구뿐만 아니라 대면적화를 통한 용량의 증대 연구도 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 금속 재료로 염료감응형 태양전지 내에 그리드 전극을 삽입함으로써 전자 및 홀의 이동 개선과 확산 이동의 최소화에 의한 손실 감소를 통해 효율 향상을 시도했다. 또한, 투명전극의 레이저 식각을 통해 염료감응형 태양전지의 내부 저항 중 큰 비중을 차지하는 투명전극의 표면 저항도 줄이고자 했다. SEM을 통해 투명전극의 식각 상태를 확인하고, radio frequency 스퍼터를 통해 그리드 전극을 증착한 결과, 기존 셀보다 향상된 출력전류 및 fill factor를 얻을 수 있었고, 약 1%의 효율 증가를 확인할 수 있었다.

  • The newly proposed badgap reference voltage generator is insensible to PVT(process, voltage, temperature) variation and has a lower minimum supply voltage, which is required for stable operation. The simulation result is that the bandgap reference voltage generator starts operation at 1.0V of supply voltage. The layout of the bandgap reference voltage generator is designed using Magnachip $0.18{\mu}m$ DDI process, and the size is $409.36{\mu}m$ ${\times}$ $435.46{\mu}m$.

  • We propose a method operated in a vehicle to measure light absorption of particles in atmosphere. The advantage of this method is that it is insensitive to light scattering and hence can be used for the direct measurement of the light absorption coefficient without suffering from light scattering. With this method atmospheric light absorption can be measured at a time constant of 10 s. Further, our method allows for the real-time measurement of light absorption near a highway. The light absorption coefficients were high near a race track, an airport and the main gate where vehicles emitted carbonaceous particles.

The Study on the Technical Efficiency of Industrial Water in Manufacturing (공업용수 투입의 기술적 효율성 분석)

  • This paper estimates technical efficiency of industrial water in order to afford some information for improving the efficiency of government water management policy. To estimate technical efficiency, this paper uses data envelopment analysis. The result shows that the average pure technical efficiency of industrial water is 0.407. This estimate is less than the estimates when all inputs are considered as variables in the previous researches. This result means that the managers may have not tried to improve the efficiency of industrial water usage since the cost for industrial water is trivial compared to other inputs. In addition, this result shows that the previous researches which assume that all inputs are used in efficient way may give a biased results.

정보유형과 주가변동성의 관계에 관한 연구

  • 본 연구에서는 한국을 포함한 4개국의 주식시장을 대상으로 주식시장에 도달하는 정보의 유형 즉, 정보가 나쁜 뉴스(bad news)이냐 또는 좋은 뉴스(good news)이냐에 따라 주가변동성에 미치는 영향을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 주가변동성은 투자위험을 나타내는 것으로 위험프리미엄(risk premium)과 관련이 있으며, 주가변동성이 높을수록 위험프리미엄이 커져서 기대수익률이 높아지게 된다. 따라서 주가변동성에 관한 연구는 자산가격결정 등 투자자산 관리에 있어서 매우 중요한 시사점을 제공할 수 있을 것이다. 실증분석결과에 의하면 전체기간(1991년~2004년)에서 4개국 모두 예상하지 못한 음(-)의 수익률이 예상하지 못한 양(+)의 수익률보다 주가의 변동성을 더욱 증가시킨 것으로 나타났다. 그리고 그 반응 정도의 크기는 한국이 가장 낮게 나타나고 있다. 즉 주식수익률의 정보의 비대칭성은 4개국 모두 볼 수 있으며, 이중 한국에서 정보의 비대칭성이 가장 약하다는 결과로 해석할 수 있다. 본 연구의 이러한 분석결과는 4개국 모두 주식시장에서 정보유형에 따른 주가변동성의 비대칭적 반응이 존재한다는 것을 실증적으로 보여주는 것이다. 또한 두 개의 하위기간(IMF 전후기간)에서도 주가변동성의 비대칭적 반응이 존재하는 것으로 나타났으며, 특이한 점은 주가변동성의 비대칭적 반응을 나타내는 계수값이 한국, 일본, 홍콩 등 아시아 국가들은 IMF 이후기간에서 감소하는(특히 한국의 경우 대폭 감소함) 반면, 미국의 경우에는 대폭 증가하였다. 이는 아시아권의 경우 금융위기를 겪으면서 투자자들이 나쁜 뉴스에 대해 다소 둔감하게 된 결과인 것으로 해석할 수 있다.

Content-based Retrieval System using Image Shape Features (영상 형태 특징을 이용한 내용 기반 검색 시스템)

  • In this paper, we present an image retrieval system using shape features. The preprocessing to gain shape feature includes edge extraction using chain code. The shape features consist of center of mass, standard deviation, ratio of major axis and minor axis length. The similarity is estimated as comparing the features of query image with the features of images in database. Thus, the candidates of images are retrieved according to the order of similarity. The result of an experimentation is dullness for scale, rotation and translation. We evaluate the performance of shape features for image retrieval on a database with over 170 images. The Recall and the Precision is each 0.72 and 0.83 in the result of average experiment. So the proposed method is presented useful method.

  • The homotopy algorithm provides a robust method for determining optimal control, in some cases the global minimum solution, as a continuation parameter is varied gradually to regulate the contributions of the nonlinear terms. In this paper, the Successive Backward Sweep (SBS) method, which is insensitive to initial guess, augmented with a homotopy algorithm is suggested. This approach is effective for highly nonlinear problems such as low-thrust trajectory optimization. Often, these highly nonlinear problems have multiple local minima. In this case, the SBS-homotopy method enables one to steadily seek a global minimum.

  • In this paper, a chattering alleviation VSS controller for the sinusoidal type BLDC motor is designed. Dead Zone function is proposed to change the chattering occurring in the transient state from high frequency to low frequency and time-varying gains are applied for the control input to eliminate the steady state excessive chattering in the conventional ISM. The proposed Dead Zone function represents the sliding layer composed of two switching surfaces and if a state vector exists in this layer, the chattering don't occur. Simulation and experimental results confirm the useful effects of the above algorithm.
