  • We investigate the structure and properties of SiC (Silicon Carbide) nanotubes using molecular dynamics simulation based on the Tersoff bond-order potential. For small diameter tubes, the Si-C bond distance of SiC nanotubes decreases as the nanotube diameter is decreased, due to curvature of the nanotube surface. We find that Young's modulus of SiC nanotubes is somewhat smaller than that of the other nanotubes considered so far. However, Young's modulus for SiC nanotubes is larger than that of ${\beta}$-SiC and almost equal to the experimental value for SiC nanorod and SiC whisker. The strain energy of the SiC nanotubes is also lower than that of the other nanotubes. The lower strain energy of SiC nanotubes raises the possibility of synthesis of SiC nanotubes.

  • Precision positioning system with magnetostrictive actuator(MA) has widely used in manufacturing devices to control the positioning accuracy to meet the high load and stroke requirements. It has many advantage in comparison with piezoelectic actuator; high force, high strain, high efficient etc. But, the performance of Terfenol-D, the commercially available magnetostrictive material, is highly dependent on the prestress, magnetic field intensity and temperature. Therefore, thermal strain of magnetostrictive material obstructs precision position control of magnetostrictive actuator, magnetostrictive actuator is need of cooling system. In this paper, cooling system using compressed cold air is developed and proper temperature and velocity of compressed cold air is studied by thermal analysis according to applied current.

  • The field emission characteristics are studied by simulation for carbon nanotube triode structures with a strip-shaped emitter and a gate hole aligned with it. Two structures, one with double-edge and the other with single edge are analyzed. They show good emission characteristics. Emissions of electrons are concentrated on the edges of emitter and the emitted current increases as the distance between emitter and gate decreases. For single-edged emitter, the emitted electrons form a narow strip-shaped beam which has a good directionality. These triode structures have advantages in that they can be easily fabricated and aligned for assembly.

  • Simulations of the buckling behavior of a single wall carbon nanotube(SWCNT) was carried out using molecular dynamics simulation. Molecular dynamics simulations were done with 1fs of time step. Tersoff's potential function was used as the interatomic potential function since it has been proved to be reliable to describe the C-C bonds in carbon nanotubes. Compressive force was applied by moving the top end of the nanotube at a constant velocity. Buckling behavior under compressive load was observed for (15,15) armchair SWCNTs with 2nm of diameter and 24.9nm of length. Buckling load and critical strain is obtained from the MD simulation. Deformation occurred on the top region of the CNT because of fast downward velocity.

  • The application of light weight materials, such as aluminum alloy, has been limited due of their poor formability. Especially, aluminum alloy tube has limited expansion capability at most 15% at room temperature. New manufacturing process, called hot air forming, is introduced to apply aluminum tube to the automotive suspension components which have complex shape and require high expansion ratio about 40%. The process is carried out at the elevated temperature above $500^{\circ}C$, so numerous material properties and process parameters related to the high temperature should be investigated and determined to get a sound product. In this study, the effect of thermal properties and forming parameters such as the temperature of tool, axial feeding and gas pressure are analyzed by using explicit finite element method.

  • Numerical study has been peformed to develop a computer code for the design & optimal operating condition of SNCR(Selective Noncatalytic Reactor) for NOx reduction together with the analysis of the performance of vortex tube. Especially for the SNCR of the scale of industrial boiler, the required mixing and residence time of $NH_3$ solution was successfully tested numerically by the implementation of some baffle setups in a combustor. The introduction of interesting phenomena of vortex tube and similar system is made together with a theoretical hypothesis and simple cold flow simulation for the flow field analysis.

  • Solubility of single wall carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) has been determined in various dispersing media by using the solvent parameters such as Kamlet-Taft parameter and 3-dimensional parameters. Nitric acid-treated SWNTs exhibit significantly improved solubility in hydrogen bondable solvents as well as in solvent mixtures. The forming bucky gel with ionic liquid allows for the new group of dissolving solvent. The dissolution behavior of SWNTs provides a route for SWNT dispersion/exfoliation in preparing electrically conductive films such as transparent electrode.

  • Frictional behavior of a single carbon nanotube(CNT) was investigated using molecular dynamics simulation. A single CNT aligned horizontally on silver or graphene substrate was modeled to evaluate its frictional behavior such as frictional force and rolling/sliding motion with respect to potential parameter and lattice structure of the substrate. As a result, it was found that friction and rolling was affected by adhesion between two surfaces and period of the rolling depended on lattice distance of the substrate.

  • As communicating with friends by recording their daily lives in video clips has become a trend for the Z-generation or the Millennial generation, interest in the vlog is increasing. This study analyzed the effects of motivation and user characteristics on use satisfaction and intention to use vlog in 168 participants in their 20s and 30s who have experience using YouTube vlog. The results of the study showed all hypotheses established in this study were adopted. Specifically, habits and killing time, information-seeking, entertainment and relaxation, voyeurism, openness and emotional identification were found to have a positive effect on the use satisfaction. Also, satisfaction with the use of vlog has a significant impact on continuous use intention. Therefore, it can be seen that exploring the vlog will provide theoretical and practical implications.

  • Polypropylene (PP) composites containing conductive multi-walled carbon nanotube (MWNT) and stainless steel short fiber (SSF) were manufactured using a twin screw extruder and characterized their surface resistivity and mechanical properties in this work. Surface resistivity measurements showed that the percolation threshold appeared at a lower MWNT loading when a small amount of SSF was added to PP/MWNT composites. Tensile modulus and strength of the composites increased but elongation-at-break decreased greatly compared to pure PP. Also, the effects of MWNT and SSF on storage modulus and tan ${\delta}$ from dynamic mechanical analysis for the composites were examined, and the morphologies of fractured surface and the fillers were observed using a scanning electron microscope.
