Determination of Valid Dynamic Stability in Wheel Tracking Test of Asphalt Concretes (아스팔트 콘크리트 반복주행 시험에서의 동적안정도 정립에 관한 연구)

  • This study was performed to establish valid methodology for determining dynamic stability(DS) of deformation-cycle curve which is obtained through wheel tracking(WT) test, the most widely used method for forecast of rutting tendency of asphalt mixture. Existing Korean and Japanese methods for DS are unrealistic and do not really reflect characteristics of rut resistance of asphalt concretes especially when the slope of deformation-cycle curve is stabilized at the end. It was proved that the new DS developed in this study reflected rut resistance characteristics better than existing methods. It is especially effective to distinguish the mixtures with high DR(depth of rut) but stable slope at the end of curve from the mixture with lower DR and continuous slope. The field evaluation must be followed to prove whether the mixture which shows a high DS value this method perform well in the filed.

Development of Feasible Dynamic Stability in Wheel Tracking Test for Asphalt Concrete Mixtures (아스팔트 혼합물 반복주행 시험에서 합리적 동적안정도의 산정 방법)

  • Dynamic stability (DS) in the wheel tracking (WT) test is used as a basic index of rut-resistance for asphalt mixtures. In general, the deeper rut depth is obtained from the weaker mixture, resulting in the lower DS value. On the other hand, the shallower rut depth is obtained from the stronger mixture, resulting in the higher DS. However, it is not always the case when the DS is calculated by the existing method because the DS is simply determined based on the slope at the final stage of the rut depth-cycle curve. Specifically, in the case of the depth-cycle curve showing a steeper slope in the early part but flatter slope in last part, the DS is calculated to be higher than the curve showing a ever-increasing slope throughout the test. As long as the last part of slope is flatter, the deeper final rut depth is evaluated to show a higher DS than the little final rut depth. Therefore, a reasonable method for DS evaluation need to be established. Several new methods were suggested by considering the early, middle and final parts of rut depth to determine a reasonable DS. The results have shown that those new methods have demonstrated a significant improvement in distinguishing similarly performing mixtures. The result also showed that $DS_2$ had better correlation with SD than any other methods , representing the rutting resistance of asphalt mixture very well. The new DS calculation method is relatively simple and easy to follow. More validatin study is required for practical application.

  • 헬리콥터 주 로터 시스템은 헬리콥터 전체 성능을 좌우하고, 비행특성을 결정하는 핵심 구성품이다. 주 로터 시스템은 회전하면서 추력 및 조종력을 발생시키기 때문에 동적 밸런싱을 맞추는 것도 중요한 개발단계업무 중에 하나이다. 주 로터 시스템의 개발 과정에서 헬리콥터 비행시제 장착 전에 동적 밸런스 시험, 성능시험, 안정성 시험 등을 포함하는 훨시험(whirl test)을 수행하게 된다. 이 시험 수행을 위해 제작되는 시험장치가 훨타워(whirl tower)이다. 세계 유수 헬리콥터 회사들은 주 로터 훨시험을 위한 설비인 훨타워를 보유하고 있으며, 지속적으로 성능 개량 등을 통해 최신의 기술 및 장비를 적용하여 운영하고 있다. 본 논문에서는 대표적으로 사용되고 있는 해외 헬리콥터 회사들의 훨타워의 사례를 설명하고 설비의 기능을 기술함으로써 기술적 동향에 대하여 살펴보았다. 현재 한국형헬기개발사업(KHP)에서 구축중인 다목적 의 WTTF(whirl tower test facility) 요구조건 및 설계 현황에 대해서도 기술하였다. 당 연구원의 WTTF는 한국형기동헬기(KUH)의 주 로터 훨시험 및 내구성 시험을 위해 구축되고 있다. 본 시험설비는 연구개발용 시험과 양산용 시험을 모두 수행할 수 있도록 다목적으로 개발될 예정이다. 본 설비는 기존 해외 설비와는 차별화되어 다목적 시험을 할 수 있도록 설계가 진행중이며, 2008년12월에 구축 완료 예정이다.

Dynamic Stability Analysis of a Submarine by Changing Conning Tower Position and Control Planes (잠수함의 Conning Tower 위치 및 제어판 형태에 따른 동적 안정성 분석)

  • In this paper, the captive model test of a submarine using the RA test was carried out in a square basin. The target model submarine consisted of four types varying according to the position of conning tower and control planes. Hydrodynamic derivatives were acquired by multi-regression analysis. As a result, horizontal dynamic stability indexes of the four types presented positive values and satisfied dynamic stability requirements. In addition, the stability index of type 1 and type 4 - each with the same cruciform configuration of the aft planes - scored within the acceptable range of motion stability.

  • We studied the time-dependent behaviors of rock and concrete materials by conducting the static and dynamic long-term strength tests. In particular, acoustic emission(AE) signals generated while the tests were analyzed and used for the long-term stability evaluation. In the static subcritical crack growth test, the long-term behavior and AE characteristics of Mode I and Mode II were investigated. In the dynamic long-term strength test, the fatigue limit and characteristics of generation of AE were analyzed through cyclic four points bending test. The graph of the cumulative AE hits versus time showed a shape similar to that of the creep curve with the first, second and third stages. The possibility for evaluating the static and dynamic long-term stability of rock and concrete is presented from the log - log relationship between the slope of the secondary stage of cumulative AE hits curve and the delayed failure time.

  • This study was performed to estimate the dynamic behavior for Bi Prestressed Concrete Girder(Bicon girder) which could introduce effectively prestressed forces into concrete girders. Dynamic behavior of PSC girder must be verified because it becomes not only slim but also long and a railway bridge which loaded regularly has risk of resonance especially. Forced vibration test using a vibration machine was executed for 20m railway bridge girder specimen to acquire dynamic characteristics(natural frequency, damping ratio) and test results showed the natural frequency of 6.632Hz and the damping ratio of 1.43%

  • The dynamic stability of railway vehicle has been one of the important issues in railway safety. The dynamic simulator has been used in the study about the dynamic stability of railway vehicle and wheel/rail interface optimization. Especially, a small scale simulator has been widely used in the fundamental study in the laboratory instead of full scale roller rig which is not cost effective and inconvenient to achieve diverse design parameters. But the technique for the design of the small scale simulator about the dynamic characteristics of the wheel-rail system and the bogie system has not been well developed in Korea. Therefore, the research using the small-scaled derailment simulator and the 1/5 scaled bogie has been conducted. In this paper, we did running stability test of 1/5 scaled bogie using small-scaled derailment simulator. Also, for the operation of the small scaled simulator, it is required to investigate the performance and characteristics of the simulator system. This could be achieved by a comparative study between an analysis and an experiment. This paper presented the analytical model which could be used for verifying the test results and understanding of the physical behavior of the dynamic system comprising the small- scaled derailment simulator and the 1/5 scaled bogie.

  • 충격하중을 받는 시험편 높이의 1/4 길이의 notch를 가진 3점 굽힘시험편들의 기계적 거동에 관한 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 하고 이 시뮬레이션에 대한 실험적 검증도 하여 그 타당성을 입증하였다. 시험편들의 양쪽 가장자리(지지점)에서 작용되어지는 여러 가지의 하중속도에 대한 경우들과 탄소성 von Mises 재질인 모델들을 시뮬레이션에 포함시켰으며 이들에 대한 결과들을 간극 개구 변위, 반력, 크랙선단 개구 변위 및 변형률등이 속도에 의존되는 재질(점소성 재질)에 대한 시뮬레이션 결과와 비교하였다. 또한 여러가지의 동적 하중을 받는 상황하에서의 안정성이 본 연구의 시뮬레이션을 통하여 비교되었으며 그 차이점들이 규명되었다.

Study on Standards of Combustion Stability Assessment of Liquid Rocket Engine Combustion Devices (액체로켓 엔진 연소장치의 연소 안정성 평가 기준에 대한 연구)

  • The present study describes the methods and standards for the combustion stability assessment of a thrust chamber and a gas generator as parts of a liquid rocket engine. The first method uses a statistical approach through typical static combustion tests and the second one a dynamic assessment identifying decaying characteristics of pressure fluctuations excited by a pulse generating device. Based on accumulated test results, it is concluded that the maximal values for combustion stability are 3% of a chamber static pressure with a Root-Mean-Square value of pressure fluctuations, and 10 msec with a decay time.

Fundamental Properties of Asphalt Concrete Mixture as Using TDF Fly Ash as Mineral Filler (아스팔트 콘크리트 채움재로 TDF Fly Ash 적용에 따른 아스팔트 혼합물 기초 물성 평가)

  • TDF (Tire derived fuel) Fly ash is an industrial by-product when scraped tire was used a fuel source at the power plant. TDF Fly ash has been classified as domestic waste at the workplace so far and has not been appropriately utilized. We conducted a fundamental physical property test of asphalt mixture to investigate the possibility of using TDF Fly ash as a mineral filler of asphalt mixture for exploring new usage strategies. TDF Fly ash meets KS F 3501 asphalt mixture mineral filler criteria. And the optimal asphalt binder amount was determined to be 4.5% by Marshall design. Mineral filler content was determined at 3% and analyzed by comparing using mineral filler as stone powder. The basic physical property test of the asphalt mixture was evaluated to the provision indicated in "Production and Construction Guidelines for Asphalt Mixture" published by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport. In the test, Marshall stability test, dynamic immersion test, tensile strength ratio test, wheel tracking test were carried out. As a result of the experiment, Marshall stability and dynamic stability satisfied the standards, and confirmed the stability and Dynamic immersion and tensile strength ratio test that TDF Fly ash is more effective for scaling and moisture resistance than stone dust. Therefore, in this research, it is expected that multilateral utilization of TDF Fly ash, and a positive effect can be also expected.
