  • A simplified method for the calculation of buckling and vibrational characteristics of initially stressed rectangular plate and antisymmetric angle-ply laminated plates is presented in this paper using the natural frequencies under unloading state. The equation of motion of rectangular plate with two opposite edges simply supported is investigated on the basis of Rayleigh-Ritz method and Mindlin plate theory with effect of the curvature term. The relationships of the non-dimensional natural frequencies with initial stresses the coeffcients of critical buckling and the boundaries of the dynamic principal instability region can be characterized by the non-dimensional natureal frequencies under unloading state. Numerical examples are presented to verify the simplified equations and to illustrate potential applications of the analysis.

  • Weathered soil slope loses its shear strength if it is exposed in the air for a long time or in contact with water. And this kind of strength loss is remarkable in dam slope which has very big difference in water level according to the season. In this study, shear strength loss of weathered soil due to saturation had been found out through dryness and wetness repetition direct shear test. Also relation between penetration blow number(Nc) and shear strength parameter had been found out through small sized dynamic cone penetration test device and the correlation equation of Nc had been proposed through artificial neural network analysis to estimate shear strength parameter easily.

  • Phenomena of hydraulic transient such as water hammer should be analyzed to design the pipeline systems effectively in dam. Surge tanks generally are used to reduce change in pressure caused by hydraulic transient from load changes on the turbines. In this study, the appropriate scale of surge tank with chamber is investigated for dam safety management. The variation of water level in the surge tank are computed using governing equation. Using the Thoma-Jaeger's stability condition, static and dynamic stability are investigate for the cases of flood water level, normal high water level, rated water level and low water level. Finally appropriate diameters of shaft and chamber are determined in the surge tank with chamber.

  • The purpose of this study was to estimate that the relations of weathering speed and shear strength of granite soil by tracing the weathering depth of granite soil from the very moment of its cutting. The results obtained this follows : This paper is about seismic performance of the EDF(Electricite De France) system, that is among various base isolator. A rational modeling of EDF system has been presented that used Nllink element. We get theoretical solutions of equation of motion of the system and compared with numerical solutions using a finite element program. The unification modeling is made by comparing with behavior using Newmark-${\beta}$ method when input earthquake acceleration data. Thus, a verified modeling will apply bridge structures or multi-degree of-freedom systems.

  • Recently a number of researches about mechanical splice have been studied to apply on a large diameter reinforcing steel bars of spliced sleeves. In this study the structural performance of large diameter reinforcing bars with spliced sleeves was evaluated. For the application of nuclear power plant structures, two different types of existing splices with #11, 14, 18 rebars were fabricated and static and dynamic test were performed on the basis of ASME SEC III DIV.2CC-4330.

  • This paper highlights research being conducted to identify ground motion and structural characteristics that control the response of concentrically braced frames using hysteretic damper, unbonded brace, and to identify improved design procedures and code provisions. The focus of this paper is on the seismic response of six story concentrically braced frames utilizing hysteretic damper. A brief discussion is provided regarding the mechanical properties of such braces and the benefit of their use. Results of detailed nonlinear dynamic analyses are then examined for specific cases to characterize the effect on key response parameters of structural configurations and proportions.

  • The Hybrid Wall System(HWS) building composed of center core reinforced concrete walls and exterior steel frame has open space around the center core walls. It is necessary to develop design methodologies for the HWS building that the coupled shear walls withstand the most of lateral load and expect the most energy dissipation at the coupling beams and at wall foots. Major factors considered in this paper are connection type of coupling beams and scale of story. The studies of the system are investigated in terms of shear force, overturning moment, maximum lateral displacement, story drift ratio, and dynamical characteristics under the action of vertical and lateral forces such as wind and seismic loads.

  • The safety criteria for the simple beam with a rigid-plastic model under the impulsive loadings are established with the peak-load ratio to the static collapse load and impulse ratio to the ideal impulse producing the plastic hinge at the mid-span. It is shown that the impulse and peak-load of the impulsive loadings are the important factors for the damage of the structures. It is also shown that the damage curves with the peak-load and impulse ratio may be useful method to estimate the damage of the structures due to the emphasis on the equivalent dynamic loads rather than the equivalent static loads in the process of deriving the curve.

  • In this study, fault diagnosis and detection methods developed to ensure the reliability of polymer electrolyte membrane (PEM) hydrogen electrolysis systems have been proposed. The proposed method consists of model development and data generation of the PEM hydrogen electrolysis system, and data-driven fault diagnosis learning model development. The developed fault diagnosis learning model describes how to detect and classify faults in the sensors and components of the system.

  • Purpose: The morphological study and dynamic stability of the ulnar nerve around the elbow joint was investigated in asymptomatic normal population using ultrasonography. The purpose of this study is to provide fundamental data for ultrasonographic diagnosis of ulnar neuropathy in cubital tunnel syndrome. Materials and Methods: Fifty cases of 25 healthy male volunteers, aged between 20 to 30 years, included in this study. High resolution 7.5 MHz linear probe was used to examine the ulnar nerve in axial and longitudinal views. In a longitudinal view, the course, position and the thickness of nerve were monitored, the diameter of ulnar nerve and dynamic stability at elbow flexion and extension were measured in an axial view at four different points; 1cm proximal to medial epicondyle, behind the medial epicondyle, entrance to Osborne ligament, and 1cm distal to Osborne ligament. Results: The short diameters of ulnar nerve at elbow extension at four anatomic points were 2.66 mm, 2.97 mm, 2.64 mm, and 2.69 mm and the long diameters were 4.61 mm, 4.56 mm, 4.36 mm, and 4.37 mm, which showed no significant change at each point. However, at elbow flexion, the short diameters were changed to 2.72 mm, 2.34 mm, 2.65 mm, and 2.41 mm and the long diameters into 4.49 mm, 5.40 mm, 4.16 mm, and 4.66 mm. At elbow flexion, significant morphologic change was observed in the medial epicondyle area, and the diameter of the ulnar nerve was shortest at the entrance of Osborne ligament both at flexion and extension. In terms of dynamic stability, nine subluxations and seven dislocations were observed. Conclusion: This study shows dynamic instability and a morphological change of long and short diameters of ulnar nerve at flexion and extension in a normal person, which should be considered in the ultrasonographic diagnosis of ulnar neuropathy.
