Dynamic Performance Estimation and Optimization for the Power Transmission of a Heavy Duty Vehicle (중부하 차량 동력전달계의 성능평가와 최적화)

  • Automatic transmission for heavy duty vehicles is a part of the power pack which includes steering and braking systems. This transmission in different from the one for passenger car. Therefore, in order to understand the trend of the important design parameters, maneuverability, acceleration performance and maximum speed, we need to analyze the total performance characteristics of the power transmission systems. In this study, modeling of the automatic transmission in heavy duty vehicle is carried out and the performance analysis method is presented. Results can be used for performance estimation data in the analysis for several combination method which determines the optimal parameters on the basis of penalty functions and weightings. And the estimation method of the important performance parameters such as engine inertia or power loss of engine by experiments is presented.

  • The current type amplifier is the device that is used for an actuator as the motor's torque controller. However, it is too difficult to select the parameter value that has the desired output because the current type amplifier's transfer function is too complex. This study concern about the design of the current type amplifier with the desired output. From the modeled transfer function of the current type amplifier, the optimal parameter values of the transfer function can be selected in order to have the desired output using the Real Coded Genetic Algorithm(RCGA). The real circuit is made with the selected parameter value. The step response of the real circuit is in good agreement with the desired step response.

  • Natural gas liquefaction process is essential to transport natural gas for long distances. Lots of compressors in this process are needed and the energy for these compressors can be supplied by drivers. Total driver cost can be changed by selecting various drivers. This study focused on the minimization of the driver cost to provide the energy to the compressors. Moreover, scenarios, extracting velocity is changed during whole operating period, are set with considering gas well capacity. The mathematical model was established by considering trade off relationship between the capital cost and the operating cost of the turbines. The model also considers the life time of the driver equipments. As the result, the driver cost of the optimized case was reduced by 6.4% than the base case.

  • In this paper, geometrical optimization for newly designed flapping mechanism for insect-like micro air vehicle is presented. The mechanism uses strings to convert rotation of motor to reciprocating wing motion to reduce the total weight and inertial force. The governing algorithm of movement of the mechanism is established considering the characteristic of string that only tensile force can be acted by string, to optimize the kinematics. Modified pattern search method which is complemented to avoid converging into local optimum is adopted to the geometrical optimization of the mechanism. Then, prototype of the optimized geometry is produced and experimented to check the feasibility of the mechanism and the optimization method. The results from optimization and experiment shows good agreement in flapping amplitude and other wing kinematics. Further research will be conducted on dynamic analysis of the mechanism and detailed specification of the prototype.

  • 터빈 노즐 면적을 최적화함과 동시에 동기화 시킴으로서 기관의 싸이클 특성의 변화를 시도하였다. 그 결과 동력 추출을 위한 가스 유동이 제한을 받게 되고 최종의 팽창비 $\delta$에 의하여 싸이클의 변화가 이루어졌으며 동력의 이득은 싸이클 효율이 증가됨으로써 성취되었다.

  • Recently many kinds of electric vehicles have been developed as many governments demand the environmental friendly vehicles. In this paper, study of load optimization for the electric vehicle which has multiple axle power system was conducted. For the analysis of the vehicle which has three or four driving axles, a method based on the geometry and assumptions that considering axles as a spring model and normal forces of the axles are proportional to the displacement of the axles was applied with basic vehicle dynamics. With the developed vehicle analysis technique, algorithm to find the optimal motor operating points was developed. Using this algorithm, it was possible to find the optimization of vehicle load distribution for multiple axles according to the driving cycles. Also, control logic for the vehicle can be developed based on the optimization simulation results.

  • For drones to be used for industrial or agricultural applications, it is necessary to increase the payload and endurance. Currently, the payload and endurance are limited by the battery technology for electric powered drones. In addition, charging or replacing the batteries may not be a practical solution at the field that requires near continuous operation. In this paper, a procedure to optimize the power system of an electric hybrid drone that consists of an internal combustion engine, a generator, a battery, and electric motors is presented. The example drone for crop dusting is sized for easy transportation with a maximum takeoff weight of 200 kg. The two main rotors that are mechanically connected to the internal combustion engine provides most of the lift. The drone is controled by four electric motors that are driven by the generator. By analyzing the flow of the energy, a methodology to select the optimum propeller and motor among the commercially available models is described. Then, a procedure of finding the optimum operational condition along with the proper gear reduction ratios for the internal combustion engine based on the test data is presented.

Cross-sectional Optimization of a Human-Powered Aircraft Main Spar using SQP and Geometrically Exact Beam Model (기하학적 정밀 보 이론 및 SQP 기법에 의한 인간동력항공기 Main Spar 단면 설계 최적화 연구)

  • This paper presents optimization of the main spar of Human-Powered Aircraft (HPA) wing. Mass minimization was attempted, while considering large torsional deformation of the beam. Sequential Quadratic Programming (SQP) method was adopted as a relevant tool to conduct structural optimization algorithm. An inner diameter and ply thicknesses of the main spar were selected as the design variables. The objective function includes factors such as mass minimization, constant tip bending displacement, and constant tip twist of the beam. For estimation of bending and torsional deformation, the geometrically exact beam model, which is appropriate for large deflection, was adopted. Properties of the cross sectional area which the geometrically exact beam model requires were obtained by Variational Asymptotic Beam Sectional Analysis (VABS), which is a cross sectional analysis program. As a result, maintaining tip bending displacement and tip twist within 1.45%, optimal design that accomplished 7.88% of the mass reduction was acquired. By the stress and strain recovery, structural integrity of the optimal design and validity of the present optimization procedure were authenticated.

  • 기계적 장치의 도움 없이 오직 사람의 힘으로만 비행을 해야 하는 인간 동력 항공기는 높은 동력 효율 및 최소한의 무게를 지니며 고세장비(High Aspect Ratio)날개 특성을 가지고 있다. 따라서 공력 및 구조적 최적화가 필요하며 고세장비 날개 특성에 따른 대변위 해석이 필요하다. 비행가능한 특정 순항속도에서 3차원 날개에 작용하는 양력에 대해, Edison Solver(Educational program for finite element analysis (CASADSolver))를 이용하여 2차원 spar에 분포하중으로 적용하였을 때의 응력 분포 및 끝단 변위 분석하고자 한다. 또한, 2차원 spar에 일정한 간격으로 집중하중을 작용하였을 때 생기는 변위와 3차원 spar를 이용한 하중해석 결과의 변위를 비교하고자 한다. 위의 두 분석 결과로 비교적 계산자원이 많은 3차원 해석이 아닌 2차원 해석으로 인간 동력 항공기 날개 설계 초기단계에 적용가능한 지에 대해 비교한다.
