Effect of heat stress on growth performance and physiological changes of pigs in commercial farm (고온스트레스가 일반 양돈농가의 돼지 생산성 및 생리 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • This study investigated the effect of heat stress on the performance and blood characteristics in commercial pig farms. A total of 180 growing pigs and 180 finishing pigs were assigned to two treatments consisting of thermal-neutral period(TNP) and high-temperature period(HTP) with three replications in floor pen, respectively. Feeding trials in the TNP and HTP were individually performed in autumn and summer seasons, respectively. Temperature-humidity index(THI) was calculated by temperature and humidity. Performance and physiological responses were identified per growth stages and feeding trial. Average temperature and THI were $16.8^{\circ}C$ and 61.4 at the TNP, and $25^{\circ}C$ and 74.3 at the HTP, respectively. Growing pigs in HTP exhibited lower BW, ADG and ADFI than in TNP(p<0.01). Similarly, finishing pigs showed lower growth parameters in HTP than in TNP(p<0.01). Lymphocytes and neutrophils of growing pigs were lower in HTP than in TNP(p<0.05). The serum T-PRO and NEFA in finishing pigs were higher in HTP than in TNP(p<0.05). In HTP, finishing pigs had higher cortisol levels than in TNP. Therefore, HTP can negatively influence growth performance and nutritional metabolism in pigs. Our results may provide useful information for developing feeding programs and diets to control heat stress for swine farms.

  • The effects of the mixture ratios of swine manure and food wastes when vermicomposed on earthworm(Eisenia foefida) growth, the production amounts and the chemical properties of casts for plant growth media were evaluated to optimal mixture ratio. Earthworms were grown in swine manure, substituted with 0%, 20%, 40%, 60%, 50% and 100% food wastes. All of earthworm grown in swine manure substituted with 60%, 80%, and 100% food wastes died, therefore the process of swine manure substituted with 60%, 80%, and 100% food wastes by vermicomposting were impossible in this experiment. Worm cast produced from swine manure substituted with 0%, 20% and 40% food wastes after vermicomposting sufficiently contained required quantities of available phosphorus, exchangeable potassium, exchangeable magnesium, and cation exchange capacity. The survival rates of earthworm in swine manure substituted with 0% and 40% food wastes was significantly higher than those in swine manure substituted with 20%, 40% food wastes. Casts weight and proportion of casts weight in 100% swine manure were significantly higher than those in swine manure substituted with 20% food wastes, but was no significant difference between those in swine manure substituted with 40% food wastes. Therefore 100% swine manure was estimated to be superior than the others treatments. However an adequate mixture ratio of food wastes for processing mixture of swine manure by vermicomposting was estimated to be 40%. Because there was no significant difference in mean flesh weight, increasing rate, casts weight, proportion of casts weight, and reduction rate of volatile solids among 3 treatments and survival rate and conversion efficiency(CE) in swine manure with substituted 40% food wastes were significantly higher than the other treatments.

Characteristics of Fermented Wood Chips and Pig Manure (목질칩을 이용한 분뇨 발효 시 목질칩과 돈분뇨의 성분 변화)

  • After manufacturing fermentation system for degrading pig manure using environmentally friendly technique, performance of the system and characteristics of wood chips and pig manure fermented in the system were analyzed. Results from this study shows that proper fermentation temperature($55{\sim}60^{\circ}C$) reached 3days after the system started and degradation rate, which expresses fermentation performance of system, was $180{\iota}$/day. Even as progressing the fermentation of wood chips and pig manure mixture, the amount of extractives drawn out by alkali, and alcohol-benzene and lignin content was not varied. However, ash content in wood was increased. The inorganic compounds in pig manure seem to be transferred into wood chip. On the other hand holocellulose contents in wood were decreased a little. Holocellulose seems to be consumed as the second carbon source in fermentation process. Results through analysis of inorganic- and heavy metal elements contents in wood chips and pig manure fermented in long term process shows that inorganic elements($Ca^{2+},\;Mg^{2+},\;K^+,\;Na^+$ etc.) contents were increased with fermentation time and heavy metal elements(Cd, As, Cu etc.) which cause environmental pollution were not detected. Number of microorganisms including bacteria, actinomycetes, and fungi, the number of C.F.U(Colony Forming Unit) was increased while temperature in fermentation system was abruptly increased.

Effects of Wheat Fiber with Breading on Quality Characteristics of Pork Loin Cutlet (브레딩시 밀 식이섬유 첨가가 돈육 등심 돈가스 품질특성에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of the addition of wheat fiber on physico-chemical properties and sensory characteristics of pork loin cutlets were investigated to develop pork loin cutlets formulated with different concentrations of wheat fiber (0, 1, 2, 3, and 4%). The moisture content, ash content, pH, and lightness of pork loin cutlets increased with increasing wheat fiber levels (p<0.05). However, the fat content, calorie, redness, hardness, cohesiveness, gumminess, and chewiness decreased with increasing wheat fiber levels (p<0.05). The protein content, yellowness, and springiness of pork loin cutlets did not show significant difference (p>0.05). The sensory evaluation shows the greatest overall acceptability was ranked at the pork loin cutlets added with wheat fiber at 3%. Pork loin cutlets with added wheat fiber could be commercially acceptable meat products, and can be improved quality characteristics. The best results were obtained for pork loin cutlets with addition of 3% wheat fiber.

  • 정부는 지난 1월 19일 원활한 돈육 수출을 통한 돈육의 수급조절과 농가소득증대를 위해 외국으로 수출하는 원료돈의 사육 및 출하조절에 관한 지침을 제정.고시했다. 한편 정부는 지난해 12월 20일 수출 검역업무의 공신력을 제고하기 위해 "대일본 수출돈육 유해 잔류물질 검사지침"을 고시한바 있다. (월간양돈 89년 1월호 참고). 정부가 고시한 "수출용 원료돈의 사육 및 출하조절 지침"은 다음과 같다.

  • 자조금제도(cheek off system)를 실시해야 된다는 의견들을 심심치 않게 듣고 있다. 양축가들의 관심이 매우 높기 때문이다. 언제 누가 어떻게 교육을 하였기에 이렇게 여론이 조성되었는지 참으로 신기할 따름이다. 자조금에 대한 이야기를 계속하다 보면 많은 양축가들이 자조금만 실시되면 우리 업계의 모든 문제들이 한꺼번에 해결되는 만병통치약으로 알고 있는데 놀라지 않을 수 없다. 값이 떨어지면 즉시 수매비축하고 이 돈으로 유통구조도 개선하여 문제들을 해결한다는 것이다. 일은 사람이 하고 유능한 사람을 구해서 일을 하려면 돈이 필요하고 돈을 모으는 방법과 사용처에 대한 업계의견을 들어 본다.
