The Effects of Bibliotherapy Program on Elementary School Students' Adaptation to School Life: Based on Play oriented interaction (독서치료 프로그램이 초등학생의 학교생활 적응에 미치는 영향 - 상호작용 놀이 활동을 중심으로 -)

  • This study applied a bibliotherapy program based on play-oriented interaction to lower-graders in elementary school and examined its effect on the ability to adapt to school life. For this purpose, reading therapy research was conducted using research subjects consisting of ordinary second graders in elementary school located in District K, Seoul. Total of twelve ninety-minute sessions of the reading therapy program were implemented in school library once or twice a week. Adaptability to school life was tested before and after the reading therapy program and the Kinetic School Drawing (KSD) test, which was conducted before and after the implementation of reading therapy program. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; First, the reading therapy program based on play-oriented interaction was proven to have a positive impact on overall adaptation of second graders in elementary school. Second, among the sub factors of the adaptability to school life among the second graders in elementary school, reading therapy program based on play-oriented interaction positively affected teacher relation, peer relation, school lesson, and compliance with the school rules.

  • This study was analyzed for the managerial status of Bibliotherapy Programs in the public library. For this, managerial methods and contents. reactions and problems of participants were considered, and also the capability of adaptability in local libraries was groped. Based on the understandings of Man's pain and grief, patterns of library centered Bibliotherapy Program were emphasized for participants to attend the course of the therapy called 'the pattern of experience' directly.

  • This study analyze the process of bibliotherapy, the typical problems of participant, and the trend on books of bibliotherapy, using the theses about clinical bibliotherapy program for Elementary School Students from 2003 to 2010 in Korea. Bibliotherapy has been studied at various academic fields. And the bibliotherapy process for all steps of readiness, comprehension-building, and evaluation is more effective in clinical bibliotherapy. Typical problems and contents of participant deal with a lack of sociality, a lack of self-conception and self-esteem, depression, a feeling of uneasiness, and desultory attitude of learning as the problems of psychosocial risk or mental disorders. And also, bibliotherapist need to develope suitable list of books for the typical problems of participant. The study is to present basic data for clinical bibliotherapist and researcher and to indicate the direction of their study in the future.

A Bibliotherapy Program Case Study for the Responsibility Promotion of Alienated Youth (소외 청소년들의 책임감 증진을 위한 독서치료 프로그램 사례연구)

  • In Korea, only a small study based on the bibliotherapy program for responsibility promotion of at risk or alienated youth has been performed. The purpose of this proposed study is to further examine the challenges and effects of a group bibliotherapy program on alienated youth to determine the degree of success in terms of "responsibility" and/or positive results. The current research program included a relatively small sample size of 11 young people (2 boys, 9 girls) in the Suwon Youth Center from November to December, 2015. The alienated youth program consisted of 8 sessions in the correct activity center with or having levels of insight, application, and verification measured using the Lee Sang Ro et al. (1989), Developmental Responsibility Examination (Scale of Responsibility). As a result, this study will confirm that the program to raise the level of alienated youth responsibility produces positive effects. These results will provide additional theoretical rationale and implications capable for applying "responsibility" education for alienated youth to the overall field encompassing youth education. Based on this, it will be necessary to extend various identified methods in depth to achieve this overall goal.

  • This study is analyzed an operating outcome of Bibliotherapy Programs in Ulsan NamBu Library. This library is running the Programs by the librarians as leaders for the children and housewives. In the process of the running them, however, there are some problems as well as positive effects which need to be reviewed and helped for the future process. For all, the reactions and interests of the program directors, the participants and other people in the area were observed. and the problems in the light of the experience and observations of the researcher on the study were surveyed.

An Analysis of Research Behaviors in Bibliotherapy Programs: Focusing on Journal Articles during 2001-2014 (독서치료 프로그램의 연구행태 분석 - 2001년-2014년 학술논문을 중심으로 -)

  • This study was conducted to contribute to the improvement of bibliotherapy programs in the LIS field by analyzing 76 bibliotherapy program researches of 6 different major fields published in journals during 2001 to 2014. The programs were analyzed in terms of research trends, major areas, subjects and detail subjects. According to the study, the proportion of graduate students was higher than that of professors and instructors in terms of researchers' status in LIS and psychology. Also, programs for elementary students were found to be frequently carried out in schools and libraries by all fields. As for the topics of the programs, self-esteem was the most frequent topic and others such as depression, broken families, sociality, academic achievement and interpersonal relationships were also being dealt with. Detail subjects, measurement tools and application data have been proposed according to different research subjects.

  • This research aimed at the investigation of the effectiveness of bibliotherapy for depressed older adults from 90 to 65 years of age and older. For implementing the research, 12 subjects, aged 65 or over, were recruited from the community on a volunteer basis to participate in a bibliotherapy program. The score of MMSE-K, while there was no statistical significance in the score of SDS. Experiment results were analyzed via t-ananlysis. The analysis of hypothesis was revealed that the Depressed effectiveness of interactive Remark bibliotherapy was superior to that of reading bibliotherapy.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of a new bibliotherapy program on the happiness index of University students. The results were as follows: Firstly, we can raise the happiness index through the new bibliotherapy program. More specifically, we can reduce negative emotions to a great extent, and raising the level of satisfaction with life is effective. But increasing positive emotions is not easy. Secondly, Effect of bibliotherapy program on the factors of Happiness is different by various situations. Thirdly, reaction of participants of bibliotherapy program to religeous and spiritual media is different.

  • Library and Information Science, traditionally a strong field of book and reading, can be said to play a leading and central role in bibliotherapy that heals human emotions, situations, and pathological symptoms through books and reading processes. Therefore, in this study, the perception and status of bibliotherapy were investigated by applying an academic and practical perspective to the field of library and Information Science, which has a very close relationship with bibliotherapy. First, the perception survey surveyed 200 students taking LIS - related classes at four-year universities in the Seoul metropolitan area on five topics (books, bibliotherapy, curriculum, libraries, and others) using keywords related to bibliotherapy. And then, the current status of bibliotherapy in the field of LIS was investigated by dividing it into a curriculum related to bibliotherapy and bibliotherapy activities in the library to examine it from an educational and practical perspective. Bibliotherapy related curriculum status survey explored and analyzed through bibliotherapy related keywords based on 32 universities with LIS departments among four-year universities in Korea. And bibliotherapy programs and reading lists were analyzed for 1,104 public libraries in Korea. Finally, based on the results of these surveys, the direction for the activation and development of bibliotherapy in the field of LIS was presented from the perspective of bibliotherapy participants and operators.

The Influence of a Reading Therapy Program Using Picture Books on the Enhancement of Middle School Students' Self-Esteem (그림책을 활용한 독서치료 프로그램이 중학생의 자아존중감 향상에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of the study was to verify the effect of a picture-book therapy program on improving self-esteem among middle school students. The research was conducted with first-year students at a middle school. The participants in the experimental and control groups consisted of 20 students each. A pretest and posttest control group experimental design was used to confirm the effectiveness of the experimental study. The results of the test were analyzed using SPSS 21.0. The study found that the picture-book therapy program was effective in improving the self-esteem of middle school students in the experimental group. There was positive interaction between the participants in the course of the activity. Individual participants seemed to have equal catharsis and insights into their emotional response to the characters' actions and situations.
