The purpose of this study is to investigate the current state of reading culture in Gyeongsangnam-do and its infrastructure in order to develop a balanced reading culture in each of the 18 counties of Gyeongsangnam-do, and to come up with plans to promote reading culture in the libraries in the province. To this end, six measures were proposed to revitalize reading culture in Gyeongsangnam-do by reflecting and synthesizing the survey of reading culture infrastructure in Gyeongsangnam-do, the analysis of the reading status of residents of Gyeongsangnam-do, the analysis of the results of the reading culture promotion project in Gyeongsangnam-do Province and the collection of opinions from experts related to the promotion of reading culture in each field. The results of the study are as follows. ① Establishment of Gyeongnam Reading Culture Promotion Governance, ② Establishment of Gyeongnam Reading Culture Promotion Committee and preparation of basis for evaluation roles such as establishment and implementation of reading culture promotion, ③ Creation of specialized collections and preparation of reading culture programs by region, ④ Service between Gyeongnam Representative Library and Gyeongnam Office of Education Systematization of subject and role division, ⑤ Systematization of role division between Gyeongnam representative library and 18 city and county local government libraries, ⑥ Establishment of grounds for reading culture promotion policy of Gyeongnam and 18 city and county local governments, and establishment of cooperation support system based on related laws and regulations.

This survey was conducted to investigate liberal arts college students' academic reading, to explore basic issues in their reading, and to provide how to improve their academic reading in their majors. The participants in this study were 457 students who enrolled in a college of liberal arts in a university. The study results represented as follows. Firstly, there were significant differences in vocabulary, reading comprehension, and fast-reading competence among student groups of different majors. Secondly, 66.9% of the students did not read widely in their major subjects throughout all departments. 67.7% of the students with low reading performance responded that they could complete college courses only with course textbook reading, course participation, and requirement submission. Thirdly, regarding the number of major subject books that the participants read, 82.1% of the students read less than 15 books, while 11.3% read less than a book. The students' academic reading hours during per week were less than 5 hours for 68.9% students and less than 10 hours for 13.9% respectively. Based on the results (departmental differences in reading competence, wide reading in major subject books, and liberal arts students' reading hours), liberal arts colleges need to design programs to guarantee quality and quantity in reading major subject books.

This study aims to secure basic data for the development of locally customized reading culture programs by closely examining and analyzing the reading practices of local library users, their evaluation and improvement of existing reading culture programs, and the types and directions of reading culture programs they would like to see in the future. To this end, a survey was conducted among users of public libraries in the Busan area and the results were analyzed. The survey was conducted online and offline, with 609 respondents. Based on the results of this study, the following implications can be drawn: First, the definition of reading activities is expanding beyond traditional paper books to various digital media, and it is necessary to reflect this change in future program development. Second, as lack of time and lack of information were identified as the main reasons for non-participation in reading activities, libraries and related organizations should offer programs at more flexible times and expand participation opportunities through effective promotion strategies. Third, the continuity and diversity of library reading culture programs should be strengthened, and fourth, they should be differentiated in terms of topics, time, size, and type by age group. Finally, programs should be improved through continuous user surveys. The results of this study can be used as a basis for improving and developing library reading culture programs in the future.

This study investigated an actual condition of students' reading through the survey from 1,285 students in Jeollabuk-do and analysed the casual relationships which affect students' reading ability. 4 variables selected in this study are students' reading ability, reading environment, reading education and reading experiences. The results are as follow: the level of students' reading experience which means the number of books they read and time they consumed for reading is very low compared to the other variables. The reading level of elementary students is revealed higher than that of middle and high school students. The relationships among variables found out through the analysis are that reading education is influenced by reading environment, reading experience is affected by reading education and eventually reading ability is mainly affected by students' reading experience. Through these findings, this study proposed that expansion of students' reading experience and systematization of reading education are needed to strengthen their reading ability effectively.

The purpose of this study was to identify ways in which to improve assistance of reading culture promotion for reading disables in Busan Metropolitan City. The research conducted a survey on reading culture promotion works which were conducted through related public institutions, private organizations and facilities for disadvantaged class, including public libraries. This study analyzed the situations in Busan. The Results indicated promotional strategies are needed in reading culture for the handicapped. This study suggest ways in which to improve assistance through analytical research which are models of mutual cooperation for reading culture promotion in Busan.

This study investigated the consumption status, focusing on the factors related to book loans and purchases of reading consumers. Library experience, reading purpose, book genre, book price, and new books are the decision-making factors regarding consumers' book loans and purchases. As a result of a survey of reading consumers focusing on these factors, the more experience they have in using the library, the more they consume books. As for the book genre, the higher the loan consumption, the higher the purchase consumption. Consumers for reading purposes for liberal arts, hobbies, and leisure activities showed higher loan and purchase consumption than consumers for reading purposes for information acquisition, learning, and research. In terms of book price (cost), loan consumption was higher than purchase consumption. In the case of new books, both loan and purchase consumption were high. In general, reading consumers considered book loan consumption first when it was a library-owned book, and cases that led to book purchase consumption in the book market were confirmed. Based on this, it was proposed that win-win cooperation between the library and the book industry could be achieved.

The public libraries have managed reading classroom as a way of life-long education. This reading education is very important to children and young people. But reading education program done by the public libraries is not scientific and systematic. The purpose of this study are to identify real situation of the reading classroom management program through a practical materials(ex: the schedule of reading classroom) and a questionnaire survey of librarians managing this program and to provide developing model for effective reading education management program in public library.
