This study aims to understand students' perceptions of the spatial characteristics of school libraries when they use them for reading. We selected a set of spatial characteristics by reviewing the literature and conducting a preliminary investigation. Then, we examined how students perceived the importance of and how satisfied they were with each characteristic. In addition, we investigated how students' perceptions differ by the library uses and reading-related activities. We also studied whether the satisfaction of school library users affects their continued use of the libraries. We also verified whether school library user satisfaction is an intervening variable in continued-use intention, which is affected by spatial characteristics perception. We conducted a survey of 342 students from four middle schools. The analysis of the survey outcomes shows differences in library use due to spatial characteristics such as convenience, communicability, diversity, and safety. Factors such as communicability, comfortability, and ambience affected user satisfaction positively. Both aesthetics and communicability also positively influenced the continued-use intention. Furthermore, we identified that communicability, comfortability, and ambience eventually impacted the continued-use intention via user satisfaction, an intervening variable. The significance of this study is that it considered the direction of the school library to support students' reading by regarding the school library as a space for reading.

학교 도서실은 단지 자료를 축적해 놓은 자료실로서의 역할만을 목적으로 이용하는 곳이 아니라, 학습활동, 독서활동 자료 및 정보제공, 그리고 레크리에이션의 장으로서의 기능을 가지고 있다. 즉 학교의 도서실은 일반 공공도서실과는 다른 학교의 교육목표 달성을 위한 가장 기본적인 교육공간으로 자아학습의 장이다. 지식정보화시대를 맞이하여 자기주도적인 학생중심의 학습을 위한 독서활동과 다양한 자료의 활용이 없이는 불가능하며 학교 도서실을 이용하지 않고서는 그 효과를 기대하기 어렵다. 단지 장서수와 컴퓨터 등의 물리적인 수치가 더 이상 지표가 되어서는 안 되고 학생들의 정서함양 및 인격소양에 도움이 되는 독서공간을 통한 청소년기의 마음의 안정을 제공해 줄 수 있는 진정한 자아학습의 장으로 거듭나야 할 것이다. 본 고에서는 문화관광부의 문화로 아름답고 행복한 학교만들기 사업 가운데 선정된 도서공간의 재구축 사례에 대해 소개하고자 한다.

In this paper, we present a Web-based reading system. The existing Web-based reading systems have not provided adequate interactivity among students, teachers and parents so that those systems could not achieve good effects. Our system is designed and implemented to reinforce interactivity using advanced communication technologies. The design principle is based on the constructivism so that we let students learn for themselves. Our system also provide various evaluation processes for enhancing students' understanding.

Today, knowledge increase explosively on a rapid growth of information technology due to computer and network. We got knowledge from a library before, but from internet substitute for a library now. In Web-based Reading System, it needs the interactional communication between students. This paper proposes Design and Implementation for Web-based Reading System, it is possible to integrate.

본 연구는 학교도서관 독서 기반 프로젝트 학습에 대한 학생들의 인식을 탐색하는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 이를 위해 중학교 사회 교과 연계 독서 기반 프로젝트 학습을 구안하여 실시하고, 이에 지속해서 참여한 학생 여덟 명을 대상으로 심층 면담을 진행하였다. 그 결과 교과연계 독서와 수업 공간으로서의 도서관 등 학교도서관의 프로젝트 학습 전반에 대한 인식을 파악하였다. 이를 바탕으로 학습자의 요구를 반영하여 교과 연계 독서기반 프로젝트 학습의 활성화 방안을 논의하였다.

The purpose of this study is to analyze the reading events in the public libraries, and to present the development methods on the reading events like these: 1. making the wholly responsible post for reading development, 2. planning various events such as the week for reading, the month for reading every season, 3. planning various events for users of libraries, 4. giving the reading development work to the librarian with the teacher librarian certificate, 5. preparing the multipurpose room like the audio-visual room for the reading development, 6. PR through a cyber space and the like for the reading development, 7. cooperating with the related organizations, 8. increasing the budget for the reading development.

For the sake of activating web-based reading education in the public libraries, This study examine the practical use of web-based reading education and research into its activation. Web-based reading, red the book at any time/where with librarian and user, is to achieve the goal of reading education. The methods are to set up Home page of reading education through Internet, to guide user in various web-based reading materials and reading planning at any time. In addition, It is to be completed interactive action such as book review, reading dicussion through E-mail, a bulletin board, chatting etc. with librarian or user.

Recently a reading education system has been developed to manage the accumulated reading activities and past records of individuals under the web environment using computers. And the reading education system, where we can have comprehensive reading education, has been developed and been applied to schools. The reading records in the reading education system can contribute to the improvement of reading activities and reading comprehension, the extension of thinking ability, and the cultivation of insight and character of the readers. The system will provide basic data for reading education for the teachers. The reading education system will accumulate the reading records of individuals. This system is not restricted by time and space. Also the system can support the reading education of children and students effectively. The menu of the reading education system is composed of a test of reading level, reading materials, activities after reading, reading certification, reading record management and instruction of teachers.

'도서관및독서진흥법'은 '문고'를 도서관의 일반적인 목적과 기능을 수행하고는 있으나 도서관의 기준에 미달되는 규모의 독서시설이라고 정의하고 있다. 1960년 경주시 변두리 농촌인 탑동에 제1호 문고가 생긴 이래 40년이 넘는 현재(2003. 12. 기준) 전국적으로 2,500여개의 문고가 설치되어 있는데, 이들은 공공도서관에 접근하기 어려운 지역주민들이 손쉽게 접근할 수 있는 생활 속의 작은 독서공간으로 자리를 잡아가고 있다. 이번 호에서는 최근 문고 운영의 좋은 사례로 꼽히며 활발한 활동을 펼치고 있는 부천 지역의 공립문고들 중 2곳을 찾아가 보았다.
