An Analysis of Urban Residential Crimes using Eigenvector Spatial Filtering (아이겐벡터 공간필터링을 이용한 도시주거범죄의 분석)

  • The spatial distribution of crime incidences in urban neighborhoods is a reflection of their socio-economic environment and spatial inter-relations. Spatial interactions between offenders and victims lead to spatial autocorrelation of the crime incidences. The spatial autocorrelation among the incidences biases the interpretation of the ecological model in OLS framework. This research investigates residential crimes using residential burglaries and robberies occurred in the city of Columbus, Ohio, for 2000. In particular, the spatial distribution of incidence rates of residential crimes are accounted in OLS framework using eigenvectors, which reflect spatial dependence in crime patterns. Result presents that handling spatial autocorrelation enhanced model estimation, and both economic deprivation and crime opportunity are turned out significant in estimating residential crime rates.

  • Urban spatial structure is closely related to the spatial distribution of urban economic activities. The spatial distribution pattern is no more than an aggregated expression of the location and/or relocation behavior of individual firms and establishments. In this respect, it is important to identify and examine the factors that affect the spatial behavior of individual firms for a more comprehensive understanding of urban space. Agglomeration economies are one of the most prominent urban economic phenomena in the modern metropolitan area. Most firms in an urban space seek external economies through the spatial clustering of their activities. Agglomeration economies feature prominently in the analysis of urban economic structure across urban areas. While the agglomeration economies between cities focus at the macro-scale of analysis, such economies within any given city focus more on the micro geographical scale. There have been a number of researches on agglomeration economies, among which there are relatively few approaches based on an intra-urban context. This proper explores the agglomeration economies at the micro scale and tries to reseal the spatial realization of the agglomeration economies within and between sectors. Three sectors are considered in the analysis; manufacturing, retail and service. The model is based on simultaneous equation systems combined with spatially weighted variables and estimated by the KRP estimators.

  • 본 연구는 연구대상지의 위성영상을 이용하여 물, 산림, 인공구조물, 나대지, 경작지, 초지의 6항목으로 토지피복 분류를 수행하였으며, 인공위성 영상에 나타난 시계열적인 도시피복의 변화 현상을 파악하였다. 이러한 각각의 결과를 통하여 종합적인 도시지역 내의 공간현상을 파악하고자 하였고, 시간의 경과에 따라 각각의 항목별 변화에 대한 통계량을 추출하기 위해 GIS의 GRID 연산을 수행하여 도시 내 공간적인 변화를 분석하였다. 연도별 위성영상을 분석한 결과 체계적인 도심의 모습으로 발전시키는데 중요한 기초자료로 이용될 수 있고, 도시계획 수립 및 개발을 위한 의사결정 자료로 이용할 수 있으며, 도시의 향후 발전 형태를 예측하고 과거자료들을 분석하여 주요지역에 필요한 제반시설물들의 위치를 결정하는데 유용하게 이용될 수 있을 것이다.

  • 최근에 들어서 지하전철의 건설 확대와 도시 지하차도 및 지하구조물의 건설 수요증가 등 대규모 지하생활 공간의 개발이 추진되고 도시 기능의 집중화로, 공간의 유효 이용의 관점에서 적극적으로 지하공간을 활용하고 있는 실정이다. 이와 같이, 기존 건물의 심층화와 지하 주차장 및 지하가, 지하철역 등의 활용성이 증가하면서 더욱 이들 지하 다중이용 시설의 심도화와 대규모화가 이루어지고 있는 것이다. 그러나, 이들 지하시설의 경우, 안전성과 쾌적성을 부여하기 위한 자연채광, 방재, 환기 기술분야의 설계와 시공 기술 등이 선진국의 경우에 비하여 아직 취약한 실정이어서, 이들 시설 공간에서의 환경악화 현상이 클 뿐만 아니라, 특히 방재상의 문제점으로 화재가 발생시, 인명의 피난과 소화 활동의 곤란성 등이 지적되고 있는 것이다.(중략)

Spatial Distribution of Empty Deserted Houses and Its Implications on the Urban Decline and Regeneration (공폐가 분포 분석을 통한 도시쇠퇴의 공간적 구조 연구: 광주광역시 주거 지역을 중심으로)

  • The decline in urban center, changes in the population structure, economic slump and etc. have caused empty or deserted houses in the city. The government recognizes the houses as the reason for the accelerated formation of local slum, and as the negative element threatening the residential environment, urban landscape, social stability and others. This research aims at investigating the spatial distribution of empty or deserted houses in Gwangju metro city, identifying hotspots and classifying those hotspot according to the socioeconomic indicators as well as physical ones, and examining their characteristics and problems in the urban space. The results of this study are as follows. First of all, there is a positive spatial autocorrelation in the spatial distribution of empty and deserted houses in Gwangju metro city. Second, several hotspots are identified mainly around the old CBD area showing a sign of urban decline. Third, the indicators of urban decline were visualized using triangulation charts, and hotspots of empty(deserted) houses are classified so that the classification could serve for effective urban regeneration policy making tailored for each region.

  • To predict the urban growth trend and to prevent the metropolitan problems, it is important to track the spatio-temporal changes in the urban spatial structure. Commuting is inevitable and regular activities emerging in the metropolitan region. Therefore, it can be a useful to examine the interregional interaction and the urban spatial change. The purpose of this study is to investigate the urban interaction between Seoul and cities around Seoul Metropolitan Region, and GIS functions helped analysis and visualized results. An analysis of current commuting data using the Gravity Model suggests that the interaction between Seoul and its peripheral cities has been intensified from 1990 to 2000 and that the urban interaction was closely related to the distance. And the southward distribution of the cities having a strong interaction with Seoul accounts for the imbalance in growing of Seoul Metropolitan Region.

Analysis of Spatial Association of Regional Economic Growth and Land Use Considering Regional Economic Sphere (광역경제권 설정을 고려한 지역경제성장과 토지이용에 관한 공간연관성 분석)

  • The aim of this study is to analyze the spatial association of regional economic growth and land use considering 5 plus 2 regional economic sphere (Capital region zone, Chungchung zone, Honam zone, Daekyung zone, Dongnam zone and kangwon zone, Jejudo zone) in Korea. The factors of regional economic growth are GRDP and the rate of self-finance and land use, especially industrial and manufactering zone. The data for this research are obtained by National Statistical Office web-site etc. For this, the Seemingly Unrelated Regression(SUR), as a kind of simultaneous equation model, is employed as empirical analysis. Overall results of this study show that the spatial association of the capital region zone and other zones is complementary. but Honam zone and Dongnam zone or Daekyung zone is competitive. We conclude from this study that the policy of regional development will be considered in accordance with the regional economic growth and land use. Also, this study found that Economic growth of regional economic sphere will be achieved from that of cities within zone and the results will be helpful to policy makers and regional planners when establishing regional planning in the future.

  • This study aims at explaining locality of living space which is changing drastically by exploring change of land utilization, living space and condition in Yeo-ju, an agricultural area around Seoul. The conclusions are as follows. 1. Agricultural land utilization tends to decrease, while civic land utilization tends to increase. 2. Change of living space due to transportation development is remarkable. Big ferry town (Yeoju-town) grew to a city, while small ferry town fell away. 3. In villages on slow urbanization, houses or lands are deserted. 4. In villages, there has been increasing number of recreational farm for urbanite. 5. In 80% of villages, there has been an increasing number of part-time farmers. 6. Most serious social problem in Yeo-ju is incompetence in agricultural activity after UR. In sum, Yeoju is now an area where the pace of urbanization is very tardy. However, this area, as an changeable area just before speedy urbanization, is expected to be urbanized drastically on condition that transportation develop. When plans suitable for this town are set up, Yeoju is expected to be a comfortable city.

  • The purpose of this study is to diagnose urban spatial structures using spatial modeling techniques for balanced urban development as part of sustainable urban growth management. Since urban spatial structure is an interaction of various activities, it is necessary to interpret the analysis results in conjunction with the analysis of changes in spatial structural elements. In this study, population and transportation were approached for research purposes. Population data were applied to the Getis-Ord Gi* method, a spatial statistical technique, to analyze the concentration-decreasing region of the population. Traffic data analyzed the trend of centrality change by applying commuting traffic O-D data to Social Network Analysis techniques. The analysis showed that urban imbalance was growing, and the centrality of transportation was changing. The results of the analysis of spatial structure elements could be interpreted by linking the results of each factor to each neighborhood unit, predicting changes in urban spatial structure and suggesting directions for sustainable urban growth management.These results could also be used as a decision-making tool for various urban growth management policies introduced to cope with rapid urban development and uncontrollable development in many cities around the world.

  • Recently, Urban has been innovated through u-City and Smart City. Urban facility management system is developing using the latest IT technology for real-time monitoring and prevention. In this paper, we propose an UOID(Unique Object IDentification), a standard location-based ID system for urban facility object and develop the UOID service system based on network for innovation of urban facility management system. The system has been tested through Test-bed for connectivity and stability. We wish that the proposed UOID and network service system manages u-City facilities effectively and also provides various ubiquitous services to the citizen, one of the integrate service of u-City platform.
