  • Pedestrian environment not only affects the quantitative degree in pedestrian movement, but also an impact on the local economics and environment that speaks within the greater dialogue of the qualitative life in an urban context. Recent urban planning issues have matured from a linear street development to a conversion of pedestrian friendly streets that synchronizes the entire pedestrian movement structures as a whole. Subject cases, Myung-Dong and Kwanchul-Dong, were selected from time regulated pedestrian streets in Seoul. Analysis of these streets was done through field studies and interviews. From the research, the outcome was helpful in providing the developers a greater perspective with the pedestrian movement structure that is not confined to a certain parameter, but in a larger scale within the urban environment. It was also useful in justifying ambiguous locations of pedestrian-only streets and crosswalks. Also, It aided in planning optimal scheme that concurs with the predictable pedestrian movement.

  • Since the first 12 ones were designated in 1969, 228 places have been designated as tourism sites, and about 70 percent of them were designated before the 2000s. It shows that changes in most of tourism sites are needed in terms of physical, functional and environmental aspects. However, there are still not enough academic progress and policy consideration regarding the decline of tourism sites and the regeneration of them. This study aims to find the causes of decline and the factors to activate in tourism sites, to draw important conditions to recover the attractiveness of tourism sites in decline from the comprehensive analysis of causes and factors, and to apply the conditions to a real case in severely declining stage. According to the findings, the conditions for recovery could be restructured into four categories: 'The upgrade of hardware such as facilities in tourism site', 'the development of software such as contents and programs', 'the reinforcement of local capacity and institutional grounds' and 'the expansion of functions and the building of networks with various external stakeholders such as expert groups, related enterprises, talented individuals and so forth.

  • Recently, as high level of interest for the city regeneration, large-scale projects are planned or being performed such as reconstruction project. These mesa-projects have different characteristics from a single project in the design phase. It is a number of companies involved in design phase of mega-project and principal decision-making entity manage the project from the initial stage of an ongoing business by coordinating an opinions between design companies. The absence of a decision making support system reflected those characteristic causes a variety of problems such as a loss of cost and schedule. Therefore the final object of this paper is to propose a decision making support tool and system interface.

  • The mixed-use concept definition, this study reveals, is that the mixing three or more major types of urban uses implements for economical, social and environmental values in our urban space. With this definition the study explores Seoul's mixed-use phenomenon. The quantification method, the study uses, is the relative entropy which calculate the balance of each urban use in a certain area. The relative entropy method, also known as the LUM(land-use mix score), uses three urban-use categories which is derived from the mixed-use concept definition. Hundreds of building-use types in the building regulations are categorized and calculate the LUM of Seoul's legal-status neighborhoods. The result interpreted as the criteria of Seoul's mixed-use phenomenon and categorize mixed land-use status in a certain value: 'non mixed-use' category has a value 0.631 and below, 'unbalanced mixed-use' category has a value between 0.631 and 0.884, 'balanced mixed-use' category has a value between 0.884 and 0.991 and 'complete mixed-use' category has a value 0.991 and over.

The urban regeneration project is purposing of increasing the public well-being and elavation quality of life citizen. But it is comprehention the making many conflict in phase of project promotion. A project is taken participation many stakeholds. So it is generated a multiplicity of conflict. It is survey placing an example of conflict to basis of paper news. So an example of conflict is studied total 44. Among of them, phase of project operation and management disposial was occupied to many ratios. The participation of the residents made only to specify the project district. What doesn't reflect the opinion of residents cause of after approved to specify It is classified those conflicts by procedure to study. It will make reduce the government role and between the residents and contractor will enable coordination comment in way to resolve conflicts between the subject's participation. That is to say, reflection the opinions of residents to actively of way is presenting variation of the process and change in the choice way of construction company.

  • Heathcote (1998) identified a systematic, seven-step approach to general watershed planning and management. It consists of 1) understanding watershed components and processes, 2) identifying and ranking problems to be solved, 3) setting clear and specific goals, 4) developing a list of management options, 5) eliminating infeasible options 6) testing the effectiveness of remaining feasible options, and 7) developing the final options. In this study the first five steps of that process were applied to the Anyangcheon watershed in Korea, which experiences streamflow depletion, frequent flood damages, and poor water quality typical of highly urbanized watersheds. This study employed four indices: Potential Flood Damage(PFD), Potential Streamflow Depletion(PSD), Potential Water Quality Deterioration(PWQD) and Watershed Evaluation Index(WEI) to identify and quantify problems within the watershed. WEI is the integration index of the others. Composite programming which is a method of multi-criteria decision making is applied for the calculation of PSD, PWQD and WEI (Step 2). The primary goal of the study is to secure instreamflow in the Anyangcheon during dry seasons. The second management goals of flood damage mitigation and water quality enhancement are also set (Step 3). Management options include not only structural measures that can alter the existing conditions, but also nonstructural measures that rely on changes in human behavior or management practices (Step 4). Certain management options which are not technically, economically, and environmentally feasible, are eliminated (Step S). Therefore, this study addresses a Pre-feasibility study, which established a master plan using Steps 1 through 5.

  • A city is like a living organism that is born, grows and become extinct within an ecosystem. In recent years, more and more cities have been planned by designers rather than spontaneously growing over time. This planning means that if a city is not appropriately designed at the beginning, it is very hard to fix or adjust it later. A poor urban design inconveniences many people, and forces them to adjust to it. For this reason, it is important to design a city as optimally as possible at the design phase. One of the reasons why a city is not designed optimally is complexity. Previous urban design methods have attempted to resolve the complexity by using a top-down problem-solving method based on the experience and knowledge of the urban planner. However, such an approach does not have the organic characteristics of a bottom-up problem-solving method of an artificial life, based on the creation principle of the ecosystem. Therefore, in this study the general principle of artificial life, which can provide a solution to the bigger problems that accumulate as a result of the solutions to small units of problems, is adopted. This enables us to draw various urban design alternatives, and it proves that the alternatives, despite being drawn through a limited modeling method, have almost no differences from those designed by an expert, and its possibilities of future development has also been verified.
