편집자 주: 본 협회 전문위원회 기계화분과위원회는 도서관업무의 기계화를 위한 실태를 조사하여 현황을 파악하는 한편 이를 도협월보를 통하여 각도서관에 보고하여 도서관업무의 기계화를 촉진시키고자 그 조사 자료를 정리하여 기계화분과위원회의 보고서로서 게재하는 것이다.

이 보고서는 우리나라 도서관 실태에 관한 행정개혁위원회의 조사분석으로 앞으로 우리나라 도서관 육성책을 마련하는 기본방향이 될 중요한 정책 자료이다. 이 조사보고서는 행정개혁위원회 서정순 위원장의 지시로 제1조사실 남용구 위원을 비롯한 조사실 직원 전원이 1년여에 걸쳐 각종 자료를 참고하고 현실을 구체적으로 파악하여 도서관 실태를 조사분석한 것을 토대로 관계부처에 지시된 행정자료이기도 하다. 정부차원에서는 최초로 마련된 도서관계에 산적되어 있는 제반 당면 문제점들이 점차 풀려나갈 것으로 전망된다. 이 보고서는 정부의 도서관육성에 관한 기본정책 입안자료의 것이기 떄문에 도서관인들을 비롯한 관계 인사들이 골고루 참고함으로써 도서관 발전에 보탬이 될 것으로 생각되어 이곳에 계제하는 것이다.

This study covers the basic information of the small libraries nationwide, holding materials, facilities/equipment, human resources, budget, usage/users, and service etc. The survey is divided into 4 steps to produce accurate statistical data and analyze it. As a result, total 3,349 small libraries meet the criteria of the Library Act in 2010. Their holding materials, facilities/equipment, human resources, budget, usage, service program are lack of providing the knowledge information and reading culture service, which is defined in the Library Act. In particular, the majority of small libraries(80%) are in poor condition to operate library facilities/equipment, budget, and their operation. This study proposes some suggestions to overcome the poor condition and to make small libraries prosperous in the near future.

In order to investigate school libraries' educational impact, two different surveys were conducted. One examined students' school library use in general, including the frequency, purpose, and effect of their library use, and the relative importance of the library in their campus life. The other examined and analyzed their perception of the benefit of the school library to determine if any differences exist among the following three levels: 1) libraries staffed with a dedicated teacher librarian, 2) libraries without a dedicated teacher librarian but active, and 3) libraries without a dedicated teacher librarian and inactive. The questionnaire to survey student's perception had 38 statements, The surveys on student's library use and their perceptions indicated that school libraries benefit the students' reading activities the most. The overall mean of the perception was 3.24(in 5 scales), There were distinct differences among the three levels of school library conditions: the mean for libraries with a teacher librarian scored highest at 3.37, libraries without a teacher librarian but active scored second highest at 3.20, and libraries without a teacher librarian and inactive scored lowest at 3.16. The levels of school library condition suggested direct links to the educational effect on students' achievements.

이 연구는 공공도서관 사서의 정보활용능력 수준에 대한 자기인식과 실제 평가를 통해 Big6모형을 기반으로 하여 공공도서관 사서의 정보활용능력 수준실태를 78명의 사서를 대상으로 실험하였다. 연구 결과, 정보요구 영역은 높게, 정보평가 영역에 대해서는 다른 영역보다 낮게 나타났지만 모든 영역에 대해서 평균이상으로 조사되어 사서들의 정보활용교육 필요성을 파악할 수 있었다. 특히 정보활용교육 경험여부에 대한 두 집단간의 차이는 정보이용 영역을 제외하고는 통계적으로 유의미하지 않음을 알 수 있었다.

This study aim was to revitalize young adults' programs in public library. For this aim, the study conducts a questionnaire survey to the young adults & the young adults' program librarians on the current state of the young adults' programs. Based on the survey results, the study suggested preparation of young adults' reading room, young adults' programs development, young adults' web site, young adults' librarian for young adults' programs revitalization in public library.

The practice and management of cultural programs of public libraries have drown social attention as the importance of the public library has been emphasized in the process of social development. In this context, this study looks into the theoretical background of the importance on the public library's cultural programs, examines the practice of cultural programs of public libraries in Seoul from various perspectives through web-pages, and investigates the managerial aspects of them through survey of 20 public libraries in Seoul. By so doing, this study aims at enhancing our understanding on the cultural programs of public libraries.

As the volunteer activity has become universal, volunteers of public libraries have also grown both quantitatively and qualitatively. In this context, this study builds a theoretical background on the volunteer activity of public libraries; examines the volunteer activity management of public libraries using survey method including its planning, personal management and administration; and suggests some recommendations to promote the voluntary activity of public libraries. By so doing, this study aims at enhancing our understanding on the volunteer activity management of public libraries.
