A Study on the Present Stage of Children's Services of Public Libraries in Korea (공공도서관 어린이 서비스의 현황 분석)

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate the present stage of children's services of public library in Korea. Data were collected from 171 public libraries and analysed according to five aspects of library services; physical aspect, collection, human resources, user services, and management and program. The results shows that budget, human resources for children's services should be increased and every local library authority should be on an active and effective way to services.

  • 필자는 현재 미국 일리노이 대학 도서관장인 동시에 동 대학 도서관학과 교장의 직에 있다. 그는 미국 도서관협회에 의하여 ‘일본’과 ‘토이기’ 양 도서관 학교를 설치하는 임무를 띠고 다년간에 걸쳐 일본과 토이기에 가 있던 분이다. 본 논문은 그가 그의 임무를 수행하는 동안에 얻은 경험에 의하여 작성된 것으로서 이 두 나라의 도서관 사정이 우리나라의 그것과 흡사함으로 우리나라 도서관 교육에 관심을 가지고 있는 분에게 큰 도움이 되리라 믿는다.

  • Sejong City Library information services and programs proposed in this study are proposed by combining cases of local representative libraries and overseas libraries. As a feature of the proposal, first, various information services that can be provided by the Sejong City Library are proposed by area, by user, by data type, by media, by partner institution, etc. Second, by reinforcing user programs for each life cycle, various reading programs by age and interest, such as reading discussion, reading experience, and reading events, are provided. Reinforce user-based programs that reflect the characteristics of Sejong City's population, such as adult, child, and family programs. Third, secure and utilize maker space space. Fourth, the reading program developed by the Sejong City Library is promoted and shared in cooperation with local libraries. Fifth, induce participation of local residents in Sejong City, volunteer activities and talent donation. Sixth, propose library information services using library websites and social media, and develop channels for mutual cooperation with users.

A Study on Perception of Library Usage and Services Related to the Establishment of the Chungcheongbuk-do Central Library (충북도립대표도서관 건립에 관한 도서관 이용과 서비스에 대한 인식 조사 연구)

  • This study aimed to assess perceptions of library usage and services among users of public libraries within Chungcheongbuk-do, as part of the groundwork for developing the basic plan for establishing the Chungcheongbuk-do Central Library. The survey results indicated that respondents consider policy formulation and implementation for the development of local libraries and enhancement of library services to be the most important role of the Chungcheongbuk-do Central Library. Additionally, respondents showed a preference for print materials as the preferred type of information resource for collection management, with literature being the most favored subject area. Finally, survey participants expressed a desire for the provision of diverse books and knowledge resources as the desired library service.

  • This research aims to suggest the way of activation of book curation in secondary school libraries by analyzing examples of book curation and the recognition of the persons in charge of secondary school libraries. A documentary research and a survey is conducted. 192 school librarians are chosen for that survey in Incheon region secondary school. 4 teacher librarians of Incheon region secondary school and a professor of library and information science are interviewed. Also an investigation is executed by visiting school libraries. Augmentation of the persons in charge of secondary school libraries, coordinating and information sharing with educational teachers, establishment of manual for book curation operation, publishing examples of subject selection are suggested for the measure of activation of book curation.

Analysis of Librarians' Perception of Teaching and Learning Support Services of Academic Libraries (대학도서관 교수·학습지원 서비스에 대한 사서 인식분석)

  • This study analyzed the respective teaching and learning-related services offered by the Centers for Teaching and Learning and the academic libraries to find the proper roles of libraries regarding this type of service. We interviewed librarians to collect the data. The content analysis of the qualitative interview data enabled us to identify the librarians' perceptions of teaching and learning support, service provision method, strengthening relationships with other academic units, recognition of libraries' roles within the universities, and generating more investment for the libraries. Finally, the analysis led to six suggestions for libraries' teaching and learning support functions, such as advertising the availability of specific academic discipline or unit-oriented library services, strengthening librarian's capabilities as educators, bolstering digital information literacy of the faculty members and students, injecting libraries' views into the development and maintaining fundamental knowledge-related programs, emphasizing the notion of human-centered libraries, and finding new ways to utilize library space.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a continuing education program for children's librarian. For this. this study conducted a questionnaire survey of children's librarians on current status of the children's services, the backgrounds of children's librarians and their needs for the continuing education. Based on the survey results. this study suggested a continuing education program, including content and policy for the children's librarians.

  • 대구지역 도서관에서 발간한 "도서관보(圖書館報)"를 활용하여 대구 소재 17개 시립 및 구립 공공도서관을 선정했다. 이들 도서관에서 노인 이용자를 위해 제공하고 있는 서비스 현황을 조사하여 분석하였다. 연구 대상서비스 분야는 시설, 자료이용 보조기구, 대활자본 자료, 2009년부터 2014년까지 6년간 시행한 평생교육강좌 프로그램 등 4가지이다. 이에 대한 현황을 살피고, 앞으로 꾸준히 증가할 것으로 예상되는 노인 이용자 수요에 대비하여 도서관이 보강해야 할 취약점에 대해 분석하였다.
