Life cycles of Sweltsa illiesi and S. lepnevae were determined from a headwater stream in Mt. Jumbong. Identification of nymphs was done by using DNA barcoding. Nymphs begin to have species specific color pattern on their head several months prior to adult emergence and differ in the form of the third antennal segment. Two species appear to have similar semivoltine life cycles in this stream, beginning to hatch from June and finishing adult emergence about 701 days later. The combined annual mean biomass in ash free dry mass (AFDM) was estimated as $96mg\;AFDM\;m^{-2}$. The combined annual secondary production were 373 mg and $297mg\;AFDM\;m^{-2}\;yr^{-1}$, calculated by using size frequency method and increment summation method respectively.

Sexual dimorphism of the mouthpart, antenna and mandible of the Cyllorhynchites ursulus in South Korea was studied with linear measurements. The mouthpart and antenna measurements were conducted with a stereoscopic microscope using 122 specimens (72 males and 50 females). Microscopic observation of the mandible were conducted with a Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM) using 103 specimens (73 males and 30 females). Results showed that the size difference between males and females was significant in the size of the mouthpart and antenna. On the other hand, we could not detect sexual size dimorphism in the microstructure of the mandible. The bivariate plots made by the result of Principal Component Analysis (PCA) and Discriminant Analysis (DA) showed a size dimorphism in the size of the mouthpart and the antenna between males and females. Based on our study, sexual dimorphism in the mouthpart and antenna exists in C. ursulus from the South Korean population, and this difference seems to be related to the behavioral differences between males and females.
This study described and illustrated the morphology of the sawfly's larva Monocellicampa pruni Wei, 1998 for the first time. Our observations confirmed that its larval biology associated with Japanese plum Prunus salicina Lindl included five instars. The larvae of M. pruni are allied to the general morphology of subfamily Nematinae with a cylindrical body, globose head, 4-segmented antenna, thoracic legs with a distinct claw, and 5 dorsal annulets on abdominal segments I - VIII. The absence of anal prolegs after the first molting shows a distinction with the larvae of genus Hoplocampa.
Reproductive behavior of the red-striped golden stink-bug, Poecilocoris lewisi Distant, was investigated in a room at 25${\pm}$1$^{\circ}C$, 60${\pm}$5% R.H. and the 16L:8D photo regimen. Mating of adults started on the 9th day after emergence, peaked 84.5% on the 21st day. Mating behavior of this insect was observed as follows : approach, antennal contact, mount, abdominal approach and copulation (end-to-end position). Males were quite active and produced by rubbing their body with the cages while searching for the females. However, the females responded passively during mating. Studios were further carried to see the response of virgin pairs under controlled conditions. It was observed that 69% of pairs succeeded in mating within one hour after the lights were switched on. Females remained unreceptive for 7 days of first mating, however, males were very much positive subject to the availability of virgin females. Although the remating frequency of female was positively correlated with fertility, but a male showed lower fertility as its frequency increased.
Stink bug species and host plants occurred in fallow lands for rice product regulation were studied in Honam area from 2004 to 2005. A total of 26 bug species in 8 families were surveyed in the fallow lands. Population density of Cletus punctiger adult reached its peak in July and was higher in fallow lands close to mountain area in Muan. Population density of stink bug species occurred in plain area of Wanju were significantly low in 2004 and population density of C. punctiger adult reached its peak in July and August in fallow lands in 2005. Five species of stink bug including C. punctiger immigrated from fallow lands to rice fields in August, and three other species including Cletus schmidti in September. Eight stink bug species which were observed to feed on weeds in fallow lands were C. punctiger, C. schmidti, Eurydema gebleri, Pachygrontha antennata, Trigonotylus caelestialium, Aelia fieberi, Eysarcoris aeneus, and Nezara antennata.
The silkworm feeding behaviour reveals two types of feeding response i. e., energetic and inert feeding response to diet. These two new technical terms are being introduced in the present study. The structures of functional organs of mouthpart and antenna of energetic and inert feeding response to diet were examined by scanning electron microscope. There is a big variations in the ultrastructures of different sensilla. The maxillary palpi or sensilla basiconica at the top of maxillary palpus of maxilla are well developed in the energetic larva while in the inert larva, these organs on the right side are extremely deformed. Similarly, these sensilla on the third segment of antenna are well developed in the larva energetic to diet has only two deformed sensilla basiconica, that is why silkworm can not show a proper form. This is related to abnormality and it is due to the fact that behaviour is too strong to select the food but fails and finally dies of the starvation.
The adults of Hermetia illucens collected in Korea were about the same size as those from their origin. The body part with the largest size variation was the antenna 2 followed by the head width and the abdomen width. It can be the baseline of selection of superior individuals for organic waste decomposition and compost production. In regards to the habitat, the adult Hermetia illucens were collected from 22 of the 51 localities. Although geographical characteristics such as coordinates and altitude may not affect the insects, the presence of organic matters could affect them. The distribution pattern of the insects may act as an indicator of natural recycling of organic wastes.
In this study, the distribution of Cantao ocellatus in Korea occurred at Jindo, Tongyoung, Gwangju and Taean including Jejudo in 2012 and was coincidentally in accordance with the distribution of Mallotus japonicus as a host plant. The adult emerges in M. japonicus occur from late June to early July and can be observed until the end of October. The investigation of the female and male was measured, developmental characteristics, host plant and oviposition preference under the conditions of temperature $25^{\circ}C({\pm}2)$, humidity 65%(${\pm}2$), day length 16L:8D, by indoor breeding. For females and males respectively, average body lengths were 26.20 mm and 23.88 mm, body widths 11.35 mm and 10.57 mm, head widths 3.84 mm and 3.64 mm, probosics lengths 7.90 mm and 7.27 mm, antennal lengths 9.87 mm and 9.69 mm, anterior leg lengths 12.50 mm and 12.27 mm, intermediate leg lengths 14.61 mm and 13.12 mm, posterior leg lengths 16.90 mm and 16.53 mm, and fresh weights 0.46 g and 0.31 g. It was seen that two kinds of C. ocellatus had prickles at the end of the pronotum which had developed in the fifth instars. The female is distinguished from the male by the reproductive organ and the spotted pattern on the abdominal segment. The preference of drinks was fruit, leafstalk, midrib, and branch in Mallotus japonicus (Thunb.) Muell. Arg., Mallotus japonicus 'Variegatus', Ricinus communis L., Lonicera japonicus var. repens (Siebold) Rehder, Citrus sinensis (L.) Osbeck and Zelkova serrata (Thunb.) Makino.
Gall development of Nurudea yanoniella on Rhus japonica and emergence of alatae from galls were studied in Jeonju. The galls were formed in late June to late October and slit open in late October 1999. The maximum length and width of galls marked were measured weekly during the period from gall formation to opening. The length and width of galls increased exponentially until mid August. After the 12 September the gall stopped developing Fundatrices (the first generation within the gall) began to larviposit on 24 June and the second generation developed in July to September. The alatiform of the second generation arrived at the final stadium in late September. Consequently, there were at least 4 generations within the galls. Alatae escaped from galls in early October. Correlation between gall and leaf growth indicated that fundatrix might act as a gall forming factor and 2nd-4th generations growing factor. A new species to Korean fauna, Nurudea shirai (Matsumura 1917) was found during this study.
An enhncer detector line(EDL) having P[1ArB] insertion in X chromosome with expression of reporter gene (lacZ) in the polar cells and border cell of egg chamber was established and used to monitor the differentiation and migration of border cells during the oogenesis of Drosophila. differentiation of border cell from the anterior polar follicle cells was evident in stage-9 egg chamber of EDL149 which was characterized by migration of columnar follicle cells toward posterior of egg chamber surrounding the oocyte. Migration of border cells was observed in the stage-9 and -10 egg chambers. \beta -galactosidase activities were rapidly increased during the first 4 days after eclosion, and it coincided with the timing of border cell differentiation in the ovary during adult life. Homozygote of EDL149 showed some retardation of border cell migration , resulting absence of migration of some border cells in the anterior part of egg chamber or delayed migration of some border cells in the stage-10 egg chamber. These results suggest that the P[1ArB] of EDL149 is inserted at the locus of the structural gene required for the border cell migration. In addition to the expression in egg chambers, lacZ expression was also detected in the meiotic germ cells of testis and antenna, suggesting the possible requirement of the trapped gene function in these organ. this EDL and enhancer trapped gene might be useful for the study of developmentally regulated cell migration.
