Dragging Body Parts in 3D Space to Direct Animated Characters (3차원 공간 상의 신체 부위 드래깅을 통한 캐릭터 애니메이션 제어)

  • We present a new interactive technique for directing the motion sequences of an animated character by dragging its specific body part to a desired location in the three-dimensional virtual environment via a hand motion tracking device. The motion sequences of our character is synthesized by reordering subsequences of captured motion data based on a well-known graph representation. For each new input location, our system samples the space of possible future states by unrolling the graph into a spatial search tree, and retrieves one of the states at which the dragged body part of the character gets closer to the input location. We minimize the difference between each pair of successively retrieved states, so that the user is able to anticipate which states will be found by varying the input location, and resultantly, to quickly reach the desired states. The usefulness of our method is demonstrated through experiments with breakdance, boxing, and basketball motion data.

Issues of IPR Database Construction through Interdisciplinary Research (학제간 연구를 통한 IPR 데이터베이스 구축의 쟁점)

  • Humanities and social sciences researchers and database experts have teamed up to build a database of IPR materials prepared by the Institute of Pacific Relations (IPR). This paper presents the issues and solutions inherent in the database construction for ensuring the quality of IPR materials. For the accessibility of the database, we maintain the database on the Web so that researchers can access it via web browsers; for the convenience of the database construction, we provide an integrated interface that allows researchers to perform all tasks in it; for the completeness of IPR materials constructed, we support the responsible input and the responsible approval that identify responsibilities of each IPR material entered; and for the immediacy of the approval, we support an interactive approval process facilitating the input of researchers. We also use database design, query processing, transaction management, and search and sorting techniques to ensure the correctness of IPR materials entered. In particular, through concurrency control using existence dependency relationships between records, we ensure the correctness between the operating system files and their paths. Our future studies include content search, database download and upload, and copyright related work on IPR materials.

  • Real-time animation of human figures in virtual environments is an important problem in the context of computer games and virtual environments. Recently, the use of large collections of captured motion data have added increased realism in character animation. However, assuming that the virtual environment is large and complex, the effort of capturing motion data in a physical environment and adapting them to an extended virtual environment is the bottleneck for achieving interactive character animation and control. We present a new technique for allowing our animated characters to navigate through a large virtual environment, which is constructed using a small set of building blocks. The building blocks can be tiled or aligned with a repeating pattern to create a large environment. We annotate each block with a motion patch, which informs what motions are available for animated characters within the block. We demonstrate the versatility and flexibility of our approach through examples in which multiple characters are animated and controlled at interactive rates in large, complex virtual environments.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a lighting apparatus of the illuminance and color temperature to maximize the ability of the optimal combination of light sources that can be controlled efficiently control device. Finding people comfortable feeling for indoor lighting that can be used in a variety of color temperature illumination area by combining light sensitivity can be realized. Lighting apparatus for fluorescent lamps with different color temperature of 2000K and 8000K, and by varying the quantity of each of the fluorescent lamps, the illuminance of lighting equipment and color temperature through optical simulations were evaluated. Tensile Properties of Thixoformed Semi-solid A356 Alloy (반용융 성형된 반응고 A356 합금의 인장 특성)

  • Despite the improved formability and processing advantages, the use of semi-solid metals is greatly limited due to the difficulties in controlling the optimum forming parameters. In the present study, the tensile properties of closed die, pressure formed semi-solid A356 alloy were examined. It was demonstrated that the tensile strength of thixoformed A356 alloy could be greatly reduced when the forming parameters were not rigorously controlled. The reduced strength of unappropriately formed products appeared to be related to the coarsening of the primary phases. The possibility of improving tensile properties of as-formed products by simple post heat treatment was also assessed.

  • One of the major research topics in the area of the development of intelligent tutoring system(ITS)is the control of instructional mechanism consisting of lesson plans,curriculum plans,and discourse plans.This paper describes a method of building the lesson plans among these three instructional plans based on the case-based planning.It is more efficient to retrieve the lesson plan from the plan memoru than to generate it whenever an instructional goal is selected.The retrieved lesson plan may be modified to build more adaptive plan for the current goal.We have developed a lesson plan generator that has such capabilities as a component of an ITS for teching indefinite intergration.We also have devised a description language to represeint the generalized form for the given arithmetic expression as an instructional goal and a curriculum tree to represent the lesson units required to master the subject matter.The result of this research could be used either by a developer of the lesson plan generator in the other area of ITS or by human teacher as a curriculum in the actual class.

  • T-DMB (Terrestrial-Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) adopted MPEG-4 BIFS (Binary Format for Scene) Core2D scene description profile and graphics profile as the standard of video associated data service. By using BIFS, we can support to overlay objects, i.e. text, stationary image, circle, polygon, etc., on the main display of receiving end according to the properties designated in broadcasting side and to make clickable buttons and website links on desired objects. Therefore, a variety of interactive data services can be served by BIFS. In this paper, we implement real-time video associated data service system far T-DMB. Our developing system places emphasis on real-time data service by user operation and on inter-working and stability with our previously developed video encoder. Our system consists of BIFS Real-time System, Automatic Stream Control System and Receiving Monitoring System. Basic functions of our system are designed to reflect T-DMB programs and characteristics of program production environment as a top priority. Our developed system was used in BIFS trial service via KBS T-DMB, it is supposed to be used in T-DMB main service after improvement process such as intensifying system stability.

Characteristics of Low Temperature Toughness on EGW Weld Metal (EGW 용착금속의 저온인성 특성)

  • 최근에 건조되는 선박이나 구조물들은 점차 대형화 되어가고, 이에 사용되는 판재들은 점차 고강도 극후판재화 되어가고 있다. 극후판재의 용접성을 향상시키기 위해서는 대입열 용접이 주로 적용되고 있는 실정인데, 30 mmt 이상의 후판을 1 pass로 용접하기 위해서는 EGW(Electro-gas welding) 기법을 사용한다. 대입열 용접은 용접입열(heat input)이 매우 높아 용착금속과 열영향부의 냉각속도가 매우 느려 용접열영향부에서 특히 fusion line 근처의 열영향부는 결정립 조대화 및 취약한 미세조직을 형성함으로서 저온인성을 크게 저하시키고, 연화 현상(softening effect)을 발생시켜 강도가 저하되는 문제점이 주로 발생하였다. 하지만 이런 문제점을 해결하기 위해 대입열용접에 사용된는 강재의 미세조직을 제어하여 AlN, TiN, $TiO_2$ 등의 석출물을 이용한 용접열영향부의 저온인성을 향상시켰다. 이러한 문제점이 발생하는 대입열용접에서 저온인성 시험은 주로 fuison line + 1, 2mm에서 수행한다. 하지만 대입열 용접시 용착금속의 냉각속도도 매우 느리기 때문에 용착금속의 위치에 따라 저온 인성 특성이 다르게 나타날 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 EGW 용착금속의 위치에 따른 저온인성 특성을 평가하기 위해 EH-36N, 40mmt 판재를 사용하여 1pole EG 용접 하였다. 용착금속의 저온인성 특성을 평가하기위해 충격 시편의 노치 위치가 fusion line - 2mm와 용접부 중앙을 기준으로 4곳을 선정하여 충격시험을 수행하였다. 또한 용착금속의 경도 분포를 알아보기 위해 micro vickers hardness tester(mitutoyo UR-501)을 사용해 hardness mapping 시험을 하였다. 용착금속의 저온인성은 미세조직과, 산소량에 따라 변화 할 수 있기 때문에 용착금속 위치를 달리하여 미세조직과 산소량도 각각 분석하였다. 용착금속의 저온인성을 향상시킬 수 있는 침상형페라이트와 비금속개재물의 상관관계에 관해 검토 하였다.

Implementation of smart security CCTV system based on wireless sensor networks and GPS data (무선 센서 네트워크와 GPS정보를 이용한 스마트 보안 CCTV 시스템 구현)

  • The conventional object tracking techniques using PTZ camera detects object movements by analyzing acquired image. However, this technique requires expensive hardware devices to perform a complex image processing. And it is occasionally hard to detect object movements, if an acquired image is low quality or image acquisition is impossible. In this paper, we proposes a smart security CCTV system applying to wireless sensor network technique based on IEEE 802.15.4 standard to overcome the problems of conventional object tracking technique, which enables to track suspicious objects by detecting object movements and GPS data in sensor node. This system enables an efficient control of PTZ camera to observe a wide area, decreasing image processing complexity. Also, wireless sensor network is implemented using mesh networks to increase the efficiency of installing sensor node.
