  • This study was conducted to investigate the mediating effects of coping on the impact of life stress on depression, subjective well-being and psychological well-being in nursing students. Self-report questionnaires were used to collect data from 147 nursing students. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient and hierarchical multiple regression. Nursing students who had a higher level of depression had a higher level of life stress, as well as a higher frequency of avoidance coping. Conversely, those who had a higher level of subjective well-being and psychological well-being had a lower level of life stress, as well as a lower frequency of avoidance coping. There were also significant positive correlations between psychological well-being and problem solving coping. The results showed that avoidance coping partially mediated the effects of life stress on depression, subjective well-being and psychological well-being. The results suggest that it is necessary to offer stress management programs to reduce avoidance coping, with additional consideration of life stress and coping strategies, to prevent depression and improve well-being among nursing students.

  • The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for improving health promotion behavior by identifying the effects of life stress and coping with stress among nursing college students on health promotion behavior. The data was collected from 352 nursing students in 6 colleges in B and K city, and the data was analyzed with SPSS/Win 23.0. Factors influencing health promotion behavior were school life satisfaction (F=9.18, p<.001), happiness score (F=20.64, p<.001), health status (F=12.40, p<.001), eating breakfast (t=-3.31, p=.001), unbalanced diet (t=-4.20, p<.001), time spent sleeping (F=2.64, p=.049), and exercise (t=5.20, p<.001). In the correlations, health promotion behavior was negatively correlated with life stress (r=-.289, p<.001), but it was positively correlated with coping with stress (r=.539, p<.001). The factors influencing health promotion behavior were stress coping (β=.439, p<.001), happiness score (β=.251, p<.001), exercise (β=.172, p<.001), unbalanced diet (β=.125, p=.002), life stress (β=-.121, p=.005), and eating breakfast (β=.083, p=.046). The above variables explained 46.0% for the health promotion behavior. Thus, in order to improve the health promotion behavior of nursing college students, integrated nursing interventions need to be developed through improving coping with stress, creating a sense of happiness, reducing life stress, and maintaining exercise and good eating habits.

  • This descriptive study was conducted to investigate the factors affecting the mental health of university students. Data were collected from 312 university students by questionnaires and analyzed by t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis. The mean scores were 1.69, 1.87 and 2.21 out of 5 on Likert scales for mental health, campus life stress and employment stress, respectively. The mean score for self-esteem was 2.27 out of 4 on a Likert scale. Gender and number of close friends affected mental health significantly. Moreover, there was a negative correlation between mental health and self-esteem(r=-.426, p<0.001), while a positive correlation was observed between mental health and campus life stress (r=0.660, p<0.001), and mental health and employment stress(r=.517, p<0.001). Multiple regression analysis showed that campus life stress (${\beta}=.545$), self-esteem(${\beta}=-.145$), and employment stress (${\beta}=0.067$) affected mental health in order, and the three research variables led to a 45.2% prediction for mental health of university students. Based on the results of this study, effective systematic plans for decreasing campus life stress and employment stress and increasing self-esteem are needed to improve the mental health of university students.

  • The purpose of this study was to measure the depression level of college students and to analyze the effects of college life stress and circadian rhythm on depression. A questionnaire survey was conducted to 720 students of college in Gwangju area from October 10, 2016 to October 31, and 687 of the collected questionnaires were analyzed. As this result, 34.5% of the students needed treatment for depression, and 71.6% of the students had mild depression. Second, depression was higher in female students, in higher grade students and students living apart from their parents. Third, evening activity type showed higher depression than morning activity type. Fourth, regression analysis revealed that depression was influenced by stress of value problem, circadian rhythm, academic stress, and getting a job stress. The results of this study suggest that students should be able to detect depression early and run a mental health program to relieve college life stress in college. However, this study is limited to some local college students and is not suitable for generalization. It is necessary to conduct research to compare university students and college students in the future.

Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficient, hierarchical regression and Sobel test with SPSS 21.0. There were significant positive correlations between life stress, depression, smartphone addiction and experiential avoidance. Experiential avoidance partially mediated the relationship between life stress and depression of nursing students. Additionally, experiential avoidance partially mediated the relationship between their life stress and smartphone addiction. The results show that experiential avoidance plays a key role in psychopathology and grows with depression and smartphone addiction. Based on the present findings, nursing interventions should be developed to decrease experiential avoidance, with additional consideration towards the relationship between life stress and experiential avoidance, in order to prevent depression and smartphone addiction among nursing college students.

  • The purpose of the study is to investigate the convergence comparison of the stress, major satisfaction, career identity, and college adjustment of nursing students according to college admission process and grade. The 349 subjects were studying in the nursing department in the City P. And the data collection was carried out from April 2016 until May 2016. The data analysis was carried out with the frequency, the percentage, the ${\chi}^2$-test, and the ANOVA by using the SPSS 23.0 Program. Regarding the research results, first, there were no significant differences among the entire academic years according to the admission type. Second, regarding all the admission types according to the academic year, there were the significant differences among stress (p=.001), the degree of satisfaction with the major (p<.001), the sense of career path identity (p=.021), and the adaptation to the college life (p<.001). As a result, I propose that, based on these results of the research, as a strategy for reducing the stress and for improving the degree of satisfaction with the major, the sense of career path identity, and the capability to adapt to the college life on the part of the nursing students, a differentiated, customized educational program by type of admission and by academic year should be developed and applied.

The most important factor affecting college-based stress was psychological hardiness (β=-.323, p<.001), followed by club activities (β=.237, p<.001), interpersonal conflict (β=.215, p=.001), grade-2 (β=-.203, p=.001), department adaptation (β=.161, p=.010), and age-21 (β=-.149, p=.024). The explanatory power was 44.4% (F=42.43, p<.001). The results of this study are expected to be used as basic data for the development of educational programs for stress reduction at the university level. Therefore, educational programs considering age and grade, using club activities as support systems, and dealing with psychological hardiness and department adaptation are needed.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing college life stress and life satisfaction of nursing students. The subjects included nursing students from some select areas. The research was conducted in November and December 2020. The data of a total of 227 nursing students were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlations, and stepwise multiple regression analysis. The findings show that college life stress, economic conditions, and interpersonal relationships had significant effects on life satisfaction of the nursing students with an explanatory power of 27.1%. The study examined life satisfaction based on general characteristics and found variations according to college life satisfaction (F=5.88, p=.003), grades (F=7.07, p=.001), interpersonal relationships (F=8.80, p=.000), and economic conditions (F=10.53, p=.000). There was a statistically significant negative correlation between their college life stress and life satisfaction (r=-.436, p<.001). To summarize, these findings raise a need to provide nursing students with a strategy to address economic issues by reducing their academic stress through an improved educational environment, help them keep positive interpersonal relationships through effective communication, and offer them active information such as counseling so that they can achieve life satisfaction.
