A Study on the Effectiveness of Continuing Education for University Librarians (사서 계속교육 효과성에 관한 연구: 대학도서관 사서를 대상으로)

  • This study aims to identify factors to the effectiveness of librarians' continuing education, which is regarded as learning transfer, and to examine the relationship between the effectiveness and the factors identified. Learning transfer is defined as an intention to apply the lessons learned in the education to the learner's practice. For this purpose, a questionnaire survey was conducted to investigate continuing education experiences of university librarians. Findings indicate that characteristics of individual librarians, educational program, and organizational environment have to be taken into consideration to manage librarians' continuing education effectively. Therefore, it is suggested that the university library as an organization should control pre- and post-activities of continuing librarians' education at the library in order to maximize the learning transfer as the effectiveness of the education. Suggestions are developed with factors to the learning transfer to improve the effectiveness.

A Study on Organizational Commitment and Goal Perception of University Librarians: A Qualitative Approach (대학도서관 사서의 조직몰입과 목표인식에 대한 연구: 질적 접근)

  • This study conducted qualitative research to investigate the librarians' organizational commitment and relations between the commitment and their goal recognition in the university library context with several open-ended, deep interviews with university librarians in order to understand the relations from diverse perspectives. As a result, many participants showed low level of organizational commitment because of their hygiene factors, such as payment, incentives, relations with colleagues, and job conditions as well as motivators including characteristics of the work, sense of accomplishment, responsibility, promotion, and self-improvement. The two factors are considered to have direct impacts on their organizational commitment. Also, the research revealed that positive goal perception was related to motivators and, at the same time, hygiene factors. Accordingly, we concluded that librarians' perception of goals are closely related to both hygiene factors and motivators. We also identify that a need of a statistical study with a questionnaire survey to confirm the relations between the organizational commitment and goal perception for developing managerial measures for the organizational commitment, and further;for better library performance.

  • 본 연구는 대학도서관 사서가 지각하는 근거기반실무 지식의 정도와 영향요인을 식별하고자 하는 연구이다. 근거기반실무 지식에 유의한 차이가 나타난 변인은 연령, 교육 정도, 고용 유형, 직위, 학술지 읽기, 학술대회 참여이었다. 근거기반실무 지식에 영향을 미치는 요인은 교육 정도, 학술지 읽기로 나타났다. 본 연구는 대학도서관 사서의 근거기반실무 지식은 대학도서관과 사서직의 지속적 발전과 혁신의 촉진 요인이기 때문에 근거기반실무 역량을 향상시킬 수 있도록 연구 관련 활동을 지원하는 조직단위, 도서관계, 학계 차원의 지원과 정책이 필요하다.

A Study on the Current Situations of Knowledge Management Systems Introduction in Korean University Libraries (우리 나라 대학도서관의 지식관리시스템 도입현황에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to present the factors needed to introduce knowledge management systems to university libraries in Korea, to suggest various methods needed to offer much more improved services of a library than now by investigating the current situations about introducing such factors in national and pubic university libraries in Korea. Almost all of the 33 university libraries selected the subject of investigation have offered the on-line reference service, e-mail pushing service, and full text constructions out of the 11 knowledge management system elements presented in this study, but the other services else have been offered by less than half the number of the libraries. The findings suggest to greatly improve the current services of libraries such as information education and selective dissemination of information, and immediately to introduce new systems including e-book and wireless service systems in order to the university competitiveness. The study implies that each library has already introduced the knowledge management systems, in proportion to a budget of the library, ifs librarian number, and a degree restructuring organization, and that an introduction of knowledge management systems such as policy and culture of organization, its librarian number, and its related security of budget takes the most important role in improving services of a library.

  • 대학도서관 사서는 이용자에게 신속한 지식정보를 제공하고 변화하는 교육환경에 신속하게 적용하고 정보욕구를 충족시키고 조직을 발전시키기 위하여 도서관의 기본요소 항목인 사서확보와 장서확충 및 예산과 시설이 잘 갖추어 지도록 노려해야 할 것이다. 그 중에서 대학도서관이 가지는 다양한 기능과 목표를 달성하기 위해서는 도서관에 근무하는 사서의 역할이 중요하다. 왜냐하면 사서의 직무수행이 이용자에 대한 정보서비스의 품질과 밀접하기 때문이다. 특히 전문대학은 설립기관이나 교육목표에 따라 차이는 있을 수 있지만 전문인력을 양성하는 기관으로 인식되는 것은 같다. 하지만 4년제 대학에 비하여 봉사대상은 비슷한 수준임에도 불구하고 상대적으로 기준, 시설, 예산면에서 열악한 전문대학 사서의 현실과 현황을 비교해 보고 사서 구성원을 검토함으로써 전문대학만이 가지는 문제점을 파악하고 전문대학 도서관 사서도 전문직으로서 자부심을 가짐으로써 열악한 전문대학 현실에 대응할 수 있는 대처방안을 모색해 보고자 한다.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of shared leadership, authenticity leadership, and self - leadership on the recognition of organizational effectiveness of university librarians, which is an alternative concept of existing leadership. The purpose of this study is to examine whether leadership styles have more influence on recognition of organizational effectiveness, and whether there is a moderating effect of emotional intelligence on the relationship between leadership and organizational effectiveness. A total of 140 questionnaires were collected from 275 librarians of 55 university librarians working in the university libraries nationwide. The effect of alternative leadership, which is an independent variable, on organizational effectiveness was partially derived, and self - leadership had the greatest effect on job satisfaction, and control effect of emotional intelligence The results of this study are as follows. Although this study does not claim new concepts and facts in the field of leadership and organizational validity, it can be said that it contributes to introducing the theoretical relation to new concepts of alternative leadership which has not been relatively studied in the field of linguistic informatics.

  • 1999년도에는 지난해에 이어서 우리 도서관계에 여러 해결해야 할 당면 문제점들이 많이 남아있다. 우리 도서관계는 올 한해 공공도서관의 명칭변경 및 민간위탁 문제, 대학도서관의 전자계산소와의 명칭 및 기능 통폐합, 전문ㆍ특수 도서관의 조직 및 기능 축소 등 여러 가지 어려움을 해결해나가는 일 뿐만이 아니라, 정보화 사회에서 지식사회에로의 전환을 앞둔 시기에 도서관 스스로의 부가가치를 창출하기 위한 많은 노력을 기울여야 할 것으로 생각된다. 이에 우리 협회에서는 본 지면을 통하여 도서관계 각 단체의 올 한해 각오와 사업방향 등을 알아보았다.

  • Academic libraries have been facing threats and opportunities at the same time because of a successful combination of information and communication technologies such as the internet. This study presented the need for library development in academic libraries, to assist with increasing costs and declining budgets and fulfilling users' expectations of additional information services. It suggested as a guide for library development of academic libraries in Korea through providing examples of various methods and cases for library development. As a result of research, this study provided the basic ideas of academic library development, which includes forming a community of friends of library and developing fundraising and fee-based information services.

  • The steady increase in academic computing activities on campus have blurred the distinctions between Academic Libraries and Computer Centers. Considerable attention has been focused in recent years on the cooperative relationship between these two separate campus units. This article explores collaboration of two units in Chief Information Officers (CIO) organizational model that have a number of colleges and universities in America, proposes an application programs in CIO Organizational Model in order to use National Colleges and Universities. Therefore, This author undertook a study of convergence of information technology and the organizational relationships among information management positions In campus, and sought on CIO's decision-making roles, their responsibility, various CIO organizational models. The models described can help a college or university identify the administrative configuration most suitable for its campus culture.
