This study investigated the applicability of the Management System for Records Standard (ISO 30301) in university archives. To examine the current state of the university archives, we surveyed 57 university archives based on the requirements of ISO 30301. We analyzed the current state of the university archives through survey results and professional interviews. Subsequently, we suggested eight things that need improvement for the adoption of ISO 30301 in university archives.

Recently, the website of university archives is becoming greatly significant to users who retrieve and utilize university archives and records. This study aims to meta-analyze university archives in Korea in terms of usefulness, usability, information quality, and web accessibility in order to improve the functionality and usefulness of university archives websites. The result of the study suggests that university archives should increase the number of the digital records and to develop communication chanels, such as blog, chatting room, digital reference services for activating use of university records. Secondly, university archives make efforts to develop systematic collecting and managing procedures and to build relevant digital collections. Thirdly, the websites of university archives develops more user-friendly interfaces and web design to improve user satisfaction. Finally, the websties of university archives should follow the standards on web accessibility.

웹은 디지털 정보화 시대에 정보를 제공하는 가장 보편적인 매체이며 이를 통한 정보 습득이 보편화 되어가고 있다. 대학기록관의 웹 기록은 대학이 소장하고 있는 기록물을 이용자가 웹을 통하여 보다 편리하게 이용할 수 있도록 한다. 본 연구는 국내 대학기록관 웹 사이트의 현황을 보다 정확하게 파악하기 위하여 자동화 평가 도구 K-WHA 3.0을 사용한 접근성 평가와 WebQual 4.0을 이용한 사용성 및 정보품질평가를 수행함으로써 객관성과 주관성 각각의 측면을 모두 고려하여 평가결과를 도출하였다. 또한 웹 기록에 대한 관심을 높이고 활용방안을 모색하기 위해 잠재적 이용자들을 대상으로 선정하여 사용자 경험에 기반한 설문조사를 실시하여 각 대학 별 대학기록관의 웹 기록 구축 현황에 대해 평가였으며 이러한 사용성 평가에 대한 분석을 통해 향후 대학기록관 웹 기록 관리의 발전방향을 제안하고자 한다.

The purpose of this study is to improve the level of records management by enhancing the risk management in university archives. Through surveys and post-interviews, the current status of risk management in university archives was investigated, the results of the investigation were analyzed to identify problems and limitations in risk management in university archives, and the following suggestions for improvements were made. First, the legal effects of risk management should be strengthened in the Public Records Management Act, and matters related to risk management should be stipulated. Second, the National Archives of Korea should actively intervene to identify problems in risk management in university archives and provide appropriate support for problem-solving. Third, the identity of university archives as independent organizations should be secured for the implementation of professional and active records management tasks. Fourth, standards and manuals reflecting risk management practices for university archives should be prepared. Fifth, a sufficient budget must be secured to meet all necessary requirements for risk management. Lastly, cooperation in the performance of records management and risk management tasks should be achieved by raising awareness of university archives and their records management tasks among the heads of the institutions and members of the organizations.

This study examines the current status of national & public university archives management, focusing on Busan and Gyeongnam area. Because national public universities create public records, they must compulsorily execute the law, Public Records and Archives Act. However revised Public Records and Archives Act isn't reflected the peculiarity of university archives and the national and public universities are to be transferred to government archive. The records and archives of universities had better be preserved in universities themselves in order to use university member and other users. This paper points out the problem of university archives management and finalizes with some suggestions for national public university archives related to the systematic and efficient archives management.

Various theoretical studies have been conducted to activate university archives, but the services provided currently in the field haven't been much studied. This study aims to investigate the usage and users of the domestic university archives, examine the types of the archival information services provided, understand the characteristics and limitations of the services, and suggest the development direction. This study set 3 objectives for the research. First, Identify the users of the university archives, the reason of the use, and the kinds of archival materials used. Second, the kinds of services and programs the university archives provide to the users. Third, the difficulties the university archives face to execute information services, the plans they consider in the future, and the best possible direction to prove the services. The authors of the study determined to apply interviews with the staffs at university archives to identify the current status of the services. For this, the range of the services offered in the field of university archives was defined first, and then, key research questions were composed. To collect valid data, authors carried out face to face interviews and email/phone interviews with the staff of 12 university archives, as well as the investigation of their Web sites. The collected data were categorized by the topic of the interview questions for analysis. By analyzing the data, some useful information was yielded including the demographic information of the research participants, the characteristics of the archives' users and requests, the types and activities of the services the university archives offered, and the limitations of archival information services, the archives' future plans, and the best possible development direction. Based on the findings, this study proposed the implications and suggestions for archival information services in university archives, in 3 domains as follows. First, university archives should build close relationship with internal university administrative units, student groups, and faculty members for effective collection and better use of archives. Second, university archives need to acquire both administrative records by transfer and manuscripts and archives by active collection. Especially, archives need to try to acquire unique archives of the universities own. Third, the archives should develop and provide various services that can elevate the awareness of university archives and induce more potential users to the archives. Finally, to solve the problems the archives face, such as the lack of the understanding of the value of the archives and the shortage of the archival materials, it was suggested that the archivists need to actively collect archival materials, and provide the valuable information by active seeking in the archives where ever it is needed.

The purpose of this study is to suggest the ways of improving systematic records management based on the results of analyzing the present records management situation of college and department in an university which is operating archives. To achieve the purpose, survey and interview of the persons in charge of producing and managing the administrative documents of college and department were conducted. Furthermore, actual condition investigation of records management of college and department and university archives were analyzed. According to the results of analysis, the following problems were found: 1) lack of sufficient records management by college and department, 2) lack of understanding of tasks by processing staffs, 3) operational problems of university archives. Based on the results, recommendations were made as follows; First, it is necessary to improve an awareness of records management by operating staffs. Second, it is necessary to educate staffs through the development of training programs reflecting the characteristics of the university and set up guidelines for records management by college and department. Third, it is necessary to execute reorganization and supplement the personnel of university archives.

In this study, considering the importance of the providing archival information services over the Web in university archives, the evaluation model of the archival information services was proposed by identifying categories and contents of it. Direction for the improvement was proposed by evaluating and analyzing the Web archival information services of some university archives in Korea. Based on the evaluation, the following directions for improvement were suggested. First, the mission and vision of the archives should be established and published over the Web. Second, the introduction to the records catalogues and records collection should be provided in detail on the Web. Third, advanced search and full-text search functions should be provided, as well as the help information for the search methods. Fourth, university archives' Web sites should provide online exhibitions and newsletters of the archives.

Photographic archives of universities are one of the most valuable types of records that establish the university's identity and provide historical evidence. Unlike text records, however, they are weak in conveying meanings. Therefore, it is difficult to support users' search and utilization unless the information of photo records is comprehensively described. In this study, for the university photo archives, we tried to structure the classification system of photo archives and develop a metadata set that reflects the category characteristics in the classification. To this end, the photo archives classification system and metadata elements of domestic and American university archives were analyzed and based on this, the model of information structure was proposed. The information structure model presented in this study can help university archives improve the data quality of their photo archives and support users with the abundant discovery of photo archives.

The purpose of the research is to evaluate the current online PR activities focused on the websites of university archives. To achieve the goal, the research developed the indicators to assess online PR activities by synthesizing both the factors derived from the basic components and concepts of PRs at university archives and the existing indexes for evaluating the online PRs of related cultural organizations such as libraries, museums, archives, and non-profit organizations. The research found that most university archives did not have promotional activities positively because there was lack of archival information services development. Even if there were some archival information services, they were not actively publicizing the facts. On the basis of the results, the research suggested the alternatives to improve online PR activities and follow-up research topics to supplement limitations of the research.
