  • This study analyzed the issues and its usefulness of drawing small-scale digital map by using the large-scale digital map which was producted with high-resolution digital aerial photograph which are commonly photographed in recent years. To this end, correlation analysis of the feature categories on the digital map was conducted, and this map was processed by inputting data, organizing, deleting, editing, and supervising feature categories according to the generalization process. As a result, 18 unnecessary feature codes were deleted, and the accuracy of 1/5,000 for the digital map was met. Although the size of the data and the number of feature categories increased, this was proven to be shown due to the excellent description of the digital aerial photograph. Accordingly, it was shown that drawing a small-scale digital map with the large-scale digital map by digital aerial photograph provided excellent description and high-quality information for digital map.

  • To use surveying data obtained from different sensors and different techniques, it is a pre-requite step that register them in a common coordinate system. For this purpose, we developed methodologies to register airborne photos, ALS (Airborne Laser Scanning) data and digital maps. To achieve this, conjugate features from these data should be extracted in advance. In this study, linear features are chosen as conjugate features. Based on such a selection strategy, a simple and robust algorithm is proposed for extracting such features from ALS data. Then, to register them, observation equations are established from similarity measurements of the extracted features and the results was evaluated statistically. The results clearly demonstrate that the proposed algorithms are appropriate to register these data.

  • In the existing digital map of the Ver.1.0, it is impossible to make a small scale digital map, which is under the 1/5000 scale map, by using the 1/1000 digital map which is the most large scale one. Because of this reason, the existing digital maps are produced into a 1/1000 and a 1/5000 map by means of two different scale aerial photos. The next generation digital map should be successively related to a small scale digital map based on the most large scale digital one. This is so important from the aspects of data share and the consecutive renewal. Ever since the development of the digital map of the Ver. 2.0, the possibility of making a multi-scale consecutive digital map has been presented and the related research has been done again. The most basic thing in the multi-scale digital maps is to decide the criteria of the generalization between the two scales. In this study, I try to formulate the criteria of the generalization required to make the 1/5000 digital map by using the 111000 digital one. In addition, I by to explore the application possibility of the consecutive renewal by carrying out auto-generalization.

  • The maps produced by the NGII(geographical information institute) are composed of 1/1,000, 1/2,500, 1/5,000 large scale maps, 1/25,000, 1/50,000 and smaller scale maps. 1/1,000 digital map, as the most large-scale digital map made by the NGII, has been constructed with the beginning of NGIS(national geographic information System) Project in 1995. However, 1/1000 digital maps have been not produced by the fundamental survey on the basis of systematic planning at the national level, but a lot of parts have been constructed by the public survey for the purpose of the fiscal year of the local governments. Also, these maps have been not regularly updated because of big budget. In this study, we investigated problems related to the construction status, system, and area, and suggested plans that can improve these problems. As the improvement plan, we proposed a nationwide three regionalization for short-term modification and long-term regular update, reset of core downtown boundaries based on topographical features, diversification of budget execution method and an improved execution system.

  • The subject of this study is to apply experimentally In resolution stereo imagery of IKONOS to producing 1:50,000 scale maps for Munsan area in Paju, being near the Military Demarcation Line, is inaccessible for aerial photography. Ground control points were acquired from GPS surveying to perform geometric corrections on images. Digital maps were produced from IKONOS stereo imagery on the digital photographic workstation. From field investigation, RMS errors of the plane and vertical positions are estimated respectively at $\pm$1.706m and $\pm$1.231m, respectively. These plane and vertical accuracies are within the tolerance limits of those provided in the NGIS Digital Topographic Map Production Rules. Therefore this suggested method is recommended for producing the large scale digital maps of 'No flight' zone near the M.D.L.

  • The digital maps, important data to build NGIS, require different scales in the same area. The organization for producing a digital map tries to find product method for digital map with economical efficiency and quality. The objectives of this study is to develope digital map generalization system to solve above problems. In order to develop this system, the work processing for digital map generalization is established, the analysis of related law and analysis on maps in different scales were performed, and each of digital map generalization algorithms was compared. The result of digital map generalization using this system shows that have a good result about positional accuracy which was evaluated by comparison between the generalized 1/25,000 and the corresponding 1/5,000 digital map. Furthermore, this system reduce the time required for 1/25,000 digital map production and the physical data amount by around 80%. In conclusion, the generalization system developed for this research can be useful for the digital map generalization from large scale to small scale digital map.

  • Recently according to supplying high resolution satellite imagery, we take much interest in the update and the revision of digital map and thematic map based on the satellite images. This study analyzed the modeling accuracy for QuickBird imagery and produced the digital map on a scale 1 to 5000 by way of showing an example. find an exhibition digital map was analyzed the positioning accuracy for the presentation of the possibility and the utility in the production and the revision to the digital map using QuickBird imagery. In order to analyze accuracies of constructed data, the digital topographic maps of 1:5000 scale which were produced by Korea National Geographic information Institute(NGI) were used. As a result, the RMSE was calculated at ${\pm}2.207$ m and 2.39 m in x and y direction respectively and it is within the permissible accuracy required for mapping on a scale of 1 to 5000 on the mapping rule notified by the National Geographic Information Institute. It is expected that the results of this study will be fully used in the field of large scale digital mapping and be utilized as basic information in applied field of the production and the revision of digital map.

  • This paper proposes a work procedure for generalizing large-scale digital maps ver. 2.0(1/5,000) into a small-scale digital map(1/25,000). Unlike a existent digital map, the digital map ver. 2.0 has a variety of attribute data as well as graphic data. To perform an efficient map generalization with these structural properties, we establish a work procedure as follow; firstly, delete layers which don't exist in small-scale digital map's feature code, and secondly, generalize features which have been classified into 8 layers, and finally merge 8 layers which have been generalized into 1 layer. Therefore, we expect that a work procedure which is proposed in this paper will play a fundamental role in automated generalization system and will contribute to small-scale digital mapping and thematic mapping.

  • The digital map in Korea has been producted and utilized independently according to scales such as 1:1,000, 1:5,000, and 1:25,000. Therefore, whenever we need to obtain the spatial data of other scales, we have to product the digital maps over and over again which it is time-consuming and ineconomic. To solve these problems, it has been accomplished many researches on map generalization to make digital maps in small scale from the master data of large scale. This paper aims to analyze the conversion characteristics of the large scale to the small scale by simplification of map generalization. For this purpose, it is proposed the algorithm for the simplification process of digital map and it is investigated the simplification characteristic of digital map through the experiment on the conversion of 1:5,000 scale into 1:25.000 scale. The results show that Area-Preservation algorithm indicates the good agreement with the original data in terms of the area and features of building layer compared to Douglas-Peucker algorithm and Reumann-Witkam algorithm.
