  • The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of an academic tutoring program on interpersonal relationships, self- directed learning capability and academic self-efficacy. The research question posed in this study was whether an academic tutoring program would affect interpersonal relationships, self-directed learning capability and academic self-efficacy. To address the research question, a self-administered survey was conducted to gather data on 214 students who participated in an academic tutoring program during a semester from September 4 to November 10, 2017. The findings of the study were as follows: After their participation in the tutoring program, there was a little decrease in self-directed learning capability and personal learning orientation, and they made progress in interpersonal relationships and academic self-efficacy. By gender, there was the greatest improvement in interpersonal relationships as well after their participation in the tutoring program. By academic year and motivation for participation, they showed the best improvement in interpersonal relationships as well, followed by academic self-efficacy. In other words, it could be said that the parts which the tutoring program brought about the biggest change to and worked best on were interpersonal relationships and academic self-efficacy. In conclusion, the improvement of interpersonal relationships and academic self-efficacy could boost not only the school adjustment of students but their academic levels and then eventually prevent them from dropping out. Therefore this program seems to be one of outstanding learning programs that could make a contribution to the stable management and qualitative competitiveness of universities.

The influence of factors upon the problem solving ability had statistically significant relationship with academic year, interpersonal relations, school record, and major satisfaction. According to academic year, the problem solving ability of sophomore (B=-0.182, p=0.010) was shown the lower tendency than junior. The problem solving ability was lower in when being bad (B=-0.349, p=0.020) compared to when being good as for interpersonal relations, in when the mark is under 3.0 (B=-0.328, p=0.004) than over 4.0 as for academic achievement, and in when being dissatisfied (B=-0.483, p=0.005) than when being satisfied as for the major satisfaction. Hence, to train competent people who have ability available for performing successful practical affairs, the education is considered to be likely needed that has substantial problem solving ability for reinforcing problem solving ability by grasping a learning problem oneself without the differentiated curriculum, by establishing an alternative plan for solving problem, and by searching for and acquiring necessary data according to factors of having influence upon problem solving ability of dental hygiene students.

  • This study investigated correlations among interpersonal problems, body dissatisfaction, and makeup behavior among college students. The results provide basic data which are helpful for students to build healthy interpersonal relationships and suggest a direction for beauty care behavior. This study derived the following results: A close correlation was identified between international problems and body dissatisfaction and body dissatisfaction and makeup behavior. In other words, college students suffering from interpersonal problems also experienced body dissatisfaction. In addition, those with body dissatisfaction have made efforts to overcome such problem through makeup behavior. This could be viewed as meaning that the greater the body dissatisfaction, the more active college students are in makeup management behavior, and the intention to resolve their physical dissatisfaction through makeup management behavior was included. Therefore, society or colleges need to recognize the necessity of counseling or treatment programs for college students suffering from interpersonal problems or body dissatisfaction and help them enter into society through diverse programs. Additionally, appearance management programs, such as the aforementioned makeup behavior, that can make them satisfied with their body should be developed. Ultimately, diverse suggestions that can help students improve their self-esteem and interpersonal relationships and enhance sociality through such social efforts should be formulated.
