Research on the Intention to Adopt a Railway as an International Transportation Mode in Korea: A Focus on Transcontinental Railways (KTAR) (국제 운송수단으로서의 철도 선택에 관한 연구 - 대륙횡단철도 선택 의도를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this research is to identify the factors affecting the intention to adopt a transcontinental railway in Korea. We develop an empirically testable model that demonstrates the effects of factors including cost, service, and efficiency of railway transportation, on modal shift intention to railway, attitude of a Railway, and intention to adopt a Transcontinental Railway (KTAR) as a railway transportation mode in the end. A survey method enables us to analyze the model with a structural equation modeling. The empirical analysis reveals that two most influential factors-the modal shift to railway transportation and the attitude of a Railway-play roles in determining intention to adopt the Transcontinental Railway (KTAR). Of the factors of transportation mode, transportation cost has a greater impact than transportation service and transportation efficiency on the intention to adopt a Transcontinental Railway (KTAR).

  • We call this world network society. Logistics is one of important network systems which connect people, materials and information. The World Economy Conditions of 21st Century has been Changed so rapidly. These Changes are more conspicuous in Northeast Asia than other Regions. China, North Korea and Russia have reformed their Economical and Social Systems, which enlarged the Trade Volume and Traffic Demand in this Area and between Europe. The Railway System Crossing the Eurasia Continent, such as TSR(Trans Siberian Railway), TCR(Trans China Railway), TMR(Trans Manchuria Railway), TMGR(Trans Mongolia Railway) and TKR(Trans Korea Railway), have been becoming very important to enhance the International Transportation efficiency and to connect each continents by International Railways. This Paper investigated and surveyed the logistical Environments surrounding this Korea Peninsula. And concerned with the Crossing Continents Railway, TSR,TCR(TMR, TMGR), TKR, operating Conditions and Tasks that must be considered and solved were also investigated. Especially the Current Logistical Conditions of China, Russia, and North Korea and their Problems were surveyed. And the SWOT of these Railways were analyzed and compared. The Visions and Goals of these Inter-Continental Railways were suggested in terms of their Rationalization of Operations and efficient Connections among many Countries. Not only the Policies and Strategies/Tactics which should be considered but also and Many detail countermeasures which should be introduced and adopted were suggested.

  • 지난해 6.15 남북공동선언을 계기로 남북간의 교류와 협력의 분위기가 조성되고 남북정상회담의 가시적 성과의 하나로 이산가족상봉과 남북철도 연결사업이 시작되어 경의선의 남쪽구간은 상당한 공사진척도를 보이고 있다. 그러나 최근의 상황은 북쪽은 아직 공사조차 시작하지 않고 있는 입장이다. 그러나 이와는 별도로 남북철도의 연결과 이의 대륙철도와의 연결은 '철의 실크로드' 구성과 함께 시베리아횡단철도(TSR)의 이용이 그간의 논의 수준을 넘어 구체화 되었다. 게다가 수교이후 러시아가 가장 적극적으로 접근하고 있는 시베리아횡단철도(TSR)의 활성화 논의는 남북관계가 한러관계 나아가 남·북·러 삼각협력의 복잡한 구도 속에서 논의되고 있는 현실이다.   • Finally, Musan-Bongdong section in Kyeong-Ui corridor opened on 11. DEC.2007, which is a historical event, because this connection means the restoration of 56 yrs' disconnection since 1951 and also starting point launching to connect china, Mongolia, Russia for continental railway logistic infrastructure. This is also one of master plans about the northern line in TAR, carried out by UNESCAP, so this study will touch up each country's railway status and the next tasks related with trans-continental railway such as North Korea, Russia, China. Also, this study reveal a mid-long term development strategy to improve the North Korea railroad for a continent rail link and international railroad transportation between China and Russia, and also checks the way of confrontation to the domestic infrastructure for the activation of the continent railway and the north and south, investigates concretely how to establish TAR northern part routes as soon as possible.

  • This research aims to grasp ripple effect of land space by assuming the linkage of transcontinental railway, asian highway, rail ferry and undersea tunnel. The result of research was drawn positively. But all region don't have same result. Pacific Yellow Sea of Chnia has better route on the present sea transport. The other region has better route on changing network. This research has some academic significants as a research start in an unexplored field and basic research for following research. Also, Academic contribution is in attempt to analyze effect size, change of effect and contribution of balance development by linkage of ultra infra structure and gives political proposals for related research development.

  • The Trans-Central Asian Railway consists of the Trans-Caspian Railroad, the Kazalinsk Route, the Turk-Sib, and the Trans-Kazakhstan Trunk Line. Currently, one-fifth of the residents in Central Asia are living around these railroads on which 70% of the economic activities in the region depends. The construction of the railroads in Central Asia was motivated by the Russian Empire's competition 'with its maritime rival, the United Kingdom, over the Eurasian heartland in a geostrategic sense. Using the railroads, the Russian Empire aspired to connect its central industrial regions in European Russia with the remote frontier areas in the Central Asian republics and to increase economic specialization of the region. After the breakdown of the USSR, however, the rail network, which had well been linked among the regions in the former Soviet nations, has been in a deteriorated linkage with their non-Soviet neighboring nations. Despite a lot of problems to be solved, the Trans-Central Asian rail network is expected to play a crucial role as a land bridge between East Asia and Europe as well as between Russia/the Baltic sea and the Indian Ocean/the Persian Gulf in the long-term.

  • The Northeast Asia has been the fastest growing region in the world for the past few decades. And now the economic bloc maintains its status as a major powerhouse of the world economy. On the way of its economic growth, Russia and Central Asian countries have emerged as major trading partners. The Trans-Siberian Railway(TSR) has been playing a pivotal role in promoting economic cooperation between the two regions. This paper investigates economic environment of the Korean TSR service operators through the SWOT analysis, then proposes management strategies for them. For this purpose, the authors analyze characteristics and roles of the TSR service operators. In addition, a comparison of difference between service operators and shippers about their recognition of economic environment of the TSR transportation service is also carried out.

  • 위험물들은 위험물의 사용 및 관리뿐만 아니라 수송시에도 많은 위험성을 내포하고 있어 각국에서는 적당한 기준을 마련하여 특별히 관리하고 있다. 우리나라 철도 위험물안전수송에 관한 철도안전법 개정을 위하여 국내 철도 위험물의 수송량과 종류를 분석하고 국내외 위험물분류기준을 비교하였다. 우리나라는 지리적으로 대륙을 연결하기 편리한 위치에 있어 향후 국경을 넘어 대륙을 횡단하는 국제법을 채택하는 것이 유리하고, 수송되어야 할 물질의 종류가 다양해질 것을 대비하여 국제적으로 통용될 수 있는 위험물일람표를 채택하는 것을 제안하였다.
