  • As the interest on the air pollution is gradually rising up at home and abroad, automotive and fuel researchers have been working on the exhaust emission reduction from vehicles through a lot of approaches, which consist of new engine design, innovative after-treatment systems, using clean (eco-friendly alternative) fuels and fuel quality improvement. This research has brought forward various main issues : whether PM emissions should be regulated for diesel and gasoline vehicles and whether gasoline and LPG powered vehicles can be further neglected from PM emission inventories. Finally, the greenhouse gas regulation has been discussed including automotive emission regulation. The greenhouse gas and emissions of automotive had many problem that cause of ambient pollution, health effects. Based on various test modes and ambient conditions, this paper discusses the characteristics of LPG on exhaust emissions and greenhouse gases. Also, this paper assessed emission characteristics due to the test temperature. These test temperature were performed by dividing the temperature of the test mode and the lowest local temperature in winter. Through this study, the correlation of vehicle test mode and ambient condition, exhaust emission, greenhouse gas emission was analyzed.

  • Wake Up Word (WUW) is a short utterance used to convert speech recognizer to recognition mode. The WUW defined by the user who actually use the speech recognizer is called user-defined WUW. In this paper, to recognize user-defined WUW, we construct traditional Gaussian Mixture Model-Hidden Markov Model (GMM-HMM), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA)-GMM-HMM and LDA-Deep Neural Network (DNN)-HMM based system and compare their performances. Also, to improve recognition accuracy of the WUW system, a threshold method is applied to each model, which significantly reduces the error rate of the WUW recognition and the rejection failure rate of non-WUW simultaneously. For LDA-DNN-HMM system, when the WUW error rate is 9.84 %, the rejection failure rate of non-WUW is 0.0058 %, which is about 4.82 times lower than the LDA-GMM-HMM system. These results demonstrate that LDA-DNN-HMM model developed in this paper proves to be highly effective for constructing user-defined WUW recognition system.

  • Camellia was jointly developed by Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation and Mitsubishi Electric Corporation in 2000. Camellia specifies the 128-bit message block size and 128-, 192-, and 256-bit key sizes. In this paper, a modified round operation block which unifies a register setting for key schedule and a conventional round operation block is proposed. 16 ROMs needed for key generation and round operation are implemented using only 4 dual-port ROMs. Due to the use of a message buffer, encryption/decryption can be executed without a waiting time immediately after KA and KB are calculated. The suggested block cipher Camellia algorithm is designed using Verilog-HDL, implemented on Virtex4 device and operates at 184.898MHz. The designed cryptographic core has a maximum throughput of 1.183Gbps in 128-bit key mode and that of 876.5Mbps in 192 and 256-bit key modes. The cryptographic core of this paper is applicable to security module of the areas such as smart card, internet banking, e-commerce and satellite broadcasting.

  • In this paper, a high efficiency 2.45 GHz rectenna with a microstrip patch antenna and a dual-mode band-pass filter in which the 2nd and 3rd harmonics are suppressed, is presented. From the experimental results, the 2.45GHz rectenna using 3rd harmonic suppressed dual-mode BPF shows the conversion efficiency of 41.6% with incident power density of 0.3 mW/cm2 and the received power of 1.66 mW. This result shows high conversion efficiency because the received power of this rectenna is lower than other rectennas to be compared with. This rectenna can be applied to the WPT (Wireless Power Transmission) field for energy harvesting. Also, it is expected to be used to provide the stand-by power for the low power devices for USN, and wireless power transfer in sensor application of MEMS devices.

  • Recently, wireless sensor network(WSN) have been used in various fields to implement ubiquitous computing environment. WSN uses small, low cost and low power sensors in order to collect information from the sensor field. This paper proposes a clustering algorithm for energy efficiency of sensor nodes. The proposed algorithm is based on conventional LEACH, the representative clustering protocol for WSN and it prolongs network and nodes life time using sleep technique and changable transmission mode. The nodes of the proposed algorithm first calculate their clustering participation value based on the distance to the neighbor nodes. The nodes located in high density area will have clustering participation value and it can turn to sleep mode. Besides, proposed algorithm can change transmission method from conventional single-hop transmission to multi-hop transmission according to the energy level of cluster head. Simulation results show that the proposed clustering algorithm outperforms conventional LEACH, especially non-uniformly deployed network.

  • In this paper, a flight test method is described for the system identification of the unmanned aerial vehicle equipped with an automatic flight control system. Multistep inputs are applied for both longitudinal mode and lateral/directional excitation. Optimal time step for excitation is sought to provide the broad input bandwidth. A programmed mode flight test method provides high-quality flight data for system identification using the flight control computer with the longitudinal and lateral/directional autopilot which enables the separation of each motion during the flight test. In addition, exact actuating input that is almost equivalent to the designed one guarantees the highest input frequency attainable. Several repetitive flight tests were implemented in the calm air in order to extract the consistent system model for the air vehicle. The enhanced airborne data acquisition system endowed the high-quality flight data for the system identification. The flight data were effectively used to the system identification of the unmanned aerial vehicle.

  • This study analyzes the interannual periodicity by using the statistical techniques of probability, spectral analysis, empirical orthogonal function analysis (EOF), and coherency analysis. The data base for this study is the time series of 1971-1985 temperature, salinity in the southern waters of the East Sea, 1960-1986 mean sea level at Pusan and Izuhara, and 1960-1986 sea level atmospheric pressure at Pusan. The appearances of anomalous temperatures higher and lower than 15-year mean monthly average with one standard deviation are about 30% of total data. The significant interannual period for temperature, salinity and sea level fluctuation is 36.6, and 23.3 months. The empirical orthogonal function analyses show that the 1st mode of the EOFs is responsible for more than 90% of total variance of the surface temperature variations, while in near-bottom waters, the relative importance of the higher EOF modes is much greater explaining more than 30% of total variance. The coherency between normalized temperatures and salinities is significant at the interannual period of 36.6 and 21.3 months.

  • NOx, PN and CO emissions from diesel trucks make up a significant portion of domestic air pollutant emissions. Therefore, test vehicles with various emission standards and driving modes were selected to evaluate the emission characteristics of regulated pollutants (NOx, PN, CO) in medium-duty trucks. As a result of test, all test vehicles were satisfied with Euro 5 or 6 regulation. NOx emissions of Euro 6 vehicles with after-treatment of LNT + DPF were lower than those of Euro 5 vehicles with DPF. In WLTC mode, all vehicles have high NOx emissions at section of extra high speeds, which are determined by increased fuel consumption and high combustion temperatures. CO and PN emissions from all vehicles were found to be low at section of low speeds. Also, The NO2/NOx ratio was analyzed at 7-23% in each mode, and the NO2/NOx ratio increased as the average vehicle speed increased. In NIER 9 mode, the CO, HC, and PN emissions were higher under cold conditions of engine than hot conditions of engine. In addition, vehicles with after-treatment system of LNT have similar NOx emissions level in this study.

  • This paper proposes four general wireless gateway types, which are distinguished by their own processing ways to connect between a wireless sub-network of things and the mobile internet that links mobile network to internet step by step. In this paper, we also design general processing procedures of these four types using the state transition model. Gateways of each types were developed on the basis of the resulted state transition models and their performances were evaluated through several tests, analyzed, and compared each other. As the results of our evaluation, compared with the other types, the type, which combines both of a low-power Sleep-interrupt way and polling ways for receiving data or responses in all the waiting states of a gateway, shows the best performance in all of data transmission real-timeliness, data loss and energy consumption.
