Pronoun Resolution in French Discourse by Korean-learners of French (한국인 프랑스어 학습자의 프랑스어 담화 이해와 대명사 해석 연구)

  • This research examined whether Korean-learners of French were sensitive to discourse structure in anaphoric pronoun resolution. In the experiments, participants read three-sentenced stories and made judgements about how the last sentence of each story makes sense in relation to previous two sentences on a 7-point Likert scale. The stories differed in whether the subject of the last sentence continued the subject of the preceding sentence, and whether the subject of the last sentence was mentioned with a pronoun or a proper noun. The results from French participants replicated the patterns shown in previous studies. In contrast, Koreans exhibited greater difficulty in interpreting pronoun-subject sentences than noun-subject sentences regardless of subject continuity. These findings are discussed within the context of developmental perspective, which suggests the processing of co-referential interpretation may interact with language proficiency.

Discourse Analysis for Deriving Characteristics of Science-gifted Elementary Students in Inquiry Activities (초등과학영재 특성 도출을 위한 탐구활동에서의 담화분석)

  • A Discourse Analysis tool has been developed and has been applied in the cooperative group inquiry activities in order to derive the characteristics of elementary gifted students in science. We recorded and videotaped the whole group problem-solving processes where 4 elementary students worked together to solve given problems as a group for one year in a gifted education center attached to a university in Seoul. We analyzed recorded discourses using systemic functional linguistics with a focus on the structure of information and topic. The discourse analysis tool was developed with the cooperation of science education and gifted education experts. In discourse analysis, we focused on meaning development processes rather than grammatical analysis. Through application of newly developed discourse analysis tool, we confirmed that the tool is useful in understanding the characteristics of science-gifted elementary students. We also founded that the interaction between students has significant effects on problem-solving processes by comparing two students who showed contradictory features in the share of dialogue. In addition, the result suggested that we need to provide students with proper training for ways to communicate with others for effective science-gifted instruction.

  • 이 연구에서는 전통 문법에서의 독일어 '장 구조(Felderstruktur)'와 생성문법에서의 '보문소 구조(CP-Struktur)'의 통합을 모색하였으며, 전장(Vorfeld)과 중장(Mittelfeld)에서 나타나는 문장 성분들의 장 점령 제약 조건들을 살펴보았다. 특히 연구의 중심 영역인 중장의 경우 '테마-레마 제약', '한정성 제약', '주어-행위자 제약' 등이 중요한 장 점령 제약 조건임을 확인하였다. 또한 이 경우, '격점검 구상(Kasus-Checking Ansatz)'에서 해결할 수 없는 몇 가지 문제를 '담화 기능 구상(Diskursfunktionaler Ansatz)'을 통해 설명할 수 있었다 따라서 이 연구에서는 독일어 장 점령 조건들이 순수 통사적 제약을 넘어선 담화$\cdot$화용적 차원으로 상정해야 한다고 주장하였다.

'NP래(來)VP'구문의 정보구조 분석

  • 本文诣在信息结构的观点研究'NP来VP'构式, 探讨了'来'语用层面的功能。本文指出把'来'看作对比焦点的先前研究的片面观点, 在以具体语境为基础, 对'NP来VP'构式进行了信息结构分析。结果发现'来'在不同语境下可以表示对比话题标记, 信息焦点标记, 对比焦点标记等。第一, 在一个语境中某个指示语已经作为话题出现, 然后在后续的语境中'来'附着于这个话题后, 那么此时的'来'有对比话题标记的功能。第二, 整个句子作焦点的, 如'我来介绍一下'中'来'是句子的信息焦点标记。第三, 表示确认焦点的句子里'来'出现在施事成分后, 与句子焦点域中的对比项构成对比, 因此此时的'来'有对比焦点标记功能。

Exploring Collaborative Learning Dynamics in Science Classes Using Google Docs: An Epistemic Network Analysis of Student Discourse (공유 문서를 활용한 과학 수업에서 나타난 학생 담화의 특징 -인식 네트워크 분석(ENA)의 활용-)

  • This study analyzed students' discourse and learning to investigate the impact of using Google Docs in science classes. The researcher, who is also a science teacher, conducted classes for 49 second-year middle school students. The classes included one using Google Docs and another using traditional paper worksheets covering identical content. Students' discourse collected from each class was compared and analyzed using Epistemic Network Analysis (ENA). The findings indicated that in the class using Google Docs, the proportion of discourse related to task was higher compared to the traditional class. More specifically, discourse regarding taking and uploading photos was prominent. However, such discourse did not lead to peer learning as intended by the teacher. An analysis based on achievement levels revealed that the class utilizing Google Docs had a relatively higher proportion of discourse from lower-achieving students. Additionally, differences were observed in the types of utterances and connection structures between the higher and lower-achieving students. The higher-achieving students took a leading role in providing suggestions and explanations, while the lower-achieving students played a role in transcribing them, with this tendency being more pronounced in the class using Google Docs. Lastly, students' changes in perception regarding the cause of static electricity were visualized using ENA. Based on the research findings, this study proposes strategies to enhance collaborative learning using Google Docs, including the use of open-ended problems to allow diverse opinions and outputs, and exploring the potential use of ENA to assess the learning effects of conceptual learning.

North Korean Defectors, Talk Shows, Dialogue and Discourses -A Dialogue and Discourse Analysis on TV Talk Shows with North Korean Defectors in South Korea- (문화적 양극화, 탈북자 토크쇼, 정체성 혼란 -<이제 만나러 갑니다>와 <모란봉 클럽>에 대한 담화 및 담론 분석-)

  • This study investigated formats and structure of meanings for the TV talk shows with North Korean defectors. The authors selected of Channel A and of TV Chosun as research subjects. As results of this study, it was found that the former dealt with heavy issues about North Korea, expressed positive perspectives on North Korea and fantasic expectations about South Korea, and produced superior dicourse of South Korea. On the other hand, the latter one dealt with light and sensational items about North Korea, employed dialogues about critics and disappointments on South Korea, and produced problematic discourse about South Korea. The former produced a kind of converged discourse structure to create superior ideology of South Korea, while the latter produced a kind of dichotomous discourse structure to create frustrating ideology. In short, through this study, it turned out that North Korean defectors suffered from their confused identities, unclear self identities, and minority positions in the South Korean society.

  • 언어사용 목적이 효율적인 정보교환에 있다. 정보교환에 필요한 의미는 하나의 문에서보다는 담화에서 전달되기 때문에 담화분석을 토대로 의미, 형식, 기능의 관계를 검토하여 언어의 한 현상을 기술하는 것이 보다 중요하다. 본 연구는 자료분석을 토대로 한국 설화문에서 주제표현의 방식과 연속성의 정도를 살펴보았다. 측정된 구문들은 영조응, 인칭대명사, 지시대명사, 지시사 뒤에 오는 명사, 소유격을 따르는 명사, 한정적 명사. 비한정적 명사, 조건절, 모두 8개 구조들이다. 이들은 주제표현의 연속성 정도의 차이를 보여 준다. 이는 이들의 통사적 특징이외에 다른 화용상의 요인들이 작용함으로 생기는 현상이다.

Die Analysen von Diskursstrukturen anhand einer neuen Diskursgrammatik (담화의 구조 - 새로운 담화문법의 설계)

  • Bei vorliegender Arbeit wurde eine sogenannte Diskursstrukturgrammatik (DSG) vorgestellt, die auf die $Erkl\"{a}rung$ von verschiedenen diskursbezogenen $Ph\"{a}nomenen$ zielt, und derer Grundlage auf 'Head-driven Phrase Structure Grammar (HPSG)' basiert. Im Abschnitt 2 wurde die Syntax von DSG gegeben. Die Syntax besteht aus Grundsymbolen und Regeln. Die Grundsymbole teilen sich wiederum in grundlegende Diskurseinheiten und logische Konnektoren ein. Entsprechend der Syntax wurde die Semantik im Abschnitt 3 gegeben. Insbesondere habe ich das Diskursrelation­Prinzip aufgestellt, nach dem die Information eines Konnektoren die Bedeutung der neu gebildeten Diskurseinheit bestimmt. Im letzten Abschnitt 4 habe ich anhand der DSG zwei Beispiele analysiert, um zu zeigen, wie die DSG funktioniert. Von der Theorie aus gesehen, ist die vorgestellte DSG nicht $vollst\"{a}ndig$. Deshalb werde ich weiter die DSG systematisieren, indem ich andere $Ph\"{a}nomene$ im Bereich des Diskurses wie Anapher, Tempus usw. behandle

Untangling Anaphoric Threads (조응관계 실타래 풀기)

  • This paper examines two different approaches to resolving a theoretical problem which the bottom-up approach version of Discourse Representation Theory of Kamp et al. (2003) faces in dealing with anaphoric relations between pronouns and their potential antecedents in conditional sentences where consequent clauses precede their corresponding conditional clauses. In one of the approaches, every element is processed in the order of occurrence and conditional operators in a non-sentence-initial position cause the ongoing DR to split in two with the same index. The definition of accessibility is accordingly modified so that the right DR can be accessible from the left DR. In the other approach, a different type of discourse representation structure, K ${\Leftarrow}$ K, is introduced, which allows us to resolve the target problem without modifying accessibility proposed in Kamp et al. (2003). Compatibility of these two approaches with the bottom-up version of DRT is evaluated by examining their applicability to the analysis of quantified sentences where pronominal expressions precede generalized quantifiers.

  • 본 연구의 목적은 한국 현대시 텍스트가 독자에게 전달하는 시적 효과를 담화 텍스트 언어학 및 인지적 화용론의 관점에서 분석하는 것이다. 담화 텍스트 언어학은 텍스트의 언어 자료 자체보다는 이를 생산하고 수용하는 인지 과정에 주목하는 인지과학의 한 분야이며, 적합성 원리로 되는 인지적 화용론은 텍스트 언어학에서 규명하는 바 여러 인지적 조작 절차들의 심리학적 근거가 된다. 많은 인지적 책략 및 조작 절차들이 집약되어 있는 한국 현대시 텍스트를 인지 화용론적 관점에서 분석한 결과, 이제까지 모호하게 개진되어 오던 많은 시적 효과가 텍스트 언어학 및 인지적 화용론의 분석 장치들에 의해서 명쾌하게 설명될 수 있음이 밝혀졌다. 즉, 정보성의 격상 및 격하, 각별한 결속구조의 사용 및 그 수용 과정, 작가의 상황점검과 상황관리 과정에 의한 전국적 인지 패턴의 활성화 및 수정 등의 인지적 절차를 통해서 독자의 맥락이 수정, 확장되는 효과가 일어나고 바로 이것이 궁극적으로는 시적 효과를 낳는다는 점을 설명할 수 있다.
