Various concepts and practices of public deliberation have been exercised over the last three decades in western countries for science and technology (ST) governance. There has been a general social consensus for the need of such new governance notwithstanding, ends and means to achieve it varied. Among various rationales, while normative and substantive perspectives are explicitly claimed in public as reasons for public engagement in ST policy making, instrumental perspectives tend to be implicitly arranged by interested parties and still affecting policy significantly. This paper therefore, examines the implications of such instrumental perspectives in public engaged ST governance. To do so, this paper analyses the discourses and practices of public deliberation for ST governance in the UK from the late 1990's until the mid 2000's. It examines the proposals made by various policy institutions and two real public deliberations- the GM Dialogue for commercialization of genetically modified crops and the Committee on Radioactive Waste Management(CoRWM)'s programme. This study finds that policy institutions tried to employ public deliberation as strategic instrument for their policy interest, which contrasted with their outwardly claimed rationales of democratic policy making and better quality in decision for ST governance.
In Korea, 'spoon class discourse' has attracted public attention in the press and among young people, which reflects that mass awareness that the class status structure is clearly rooted in the society becomes widespread. Although income distribution has been improved since late 2000s, it is interesting that Korean people's subjective perception concerning class mobility and social justice has been worsemed. By using the survey data on people's perception of opportunity inequality, this study finds that Korean people have by and large negative subjective awareness regarding socio-economic opportunity inequality, magnitude of opportunity inequality, and achievement by efforts, and that the degree of the negative perception is greater in accordance with the people's subjective identification. The regression analysis reveals that the social status of respondents and their parents(-), experience of discrimination(+), age(-), and high education of college and above (+) have consistent effect over socio-economic opportunity inequality, magnitude of opportunity inequality, and achievement by efforts with statistical significance. More concretely, as people have lower subjective status identification at the time of parent generation and their own generation, as they have the experience of discriminatory misconduct, and as they are young and highly educated, they have negative or pessimistic perception regarding opportuinity inequality. In addition, it is revealed that the unemployed and non-regular workers have significantly negative perception on socio-economic opportunity inequality, magnitude of opportunity inequality, while negative perception on the magnitude of opportunity inequality and achievement by efforts is noticeable among high and middle income households.
This thesis is to discover the meanings of boundary through East Asian thought so as to make rooms for discoursing on it. First of all people have their own boundaries of 'Me', and they make others as persons or objects in their thoughts. Originally boundary has represented nation's frontier, and it indicated the worlds of space in Buddhism of East Asian culture. It is represented by loka or visaya in Sanskrit and region, dominion, boundary, border in English, which means the worlds that people would fancy in their minds over domains of politics, societies, culture, arts ect, not to be simple. Accordingly we must not approach to its meaning simply like 'beyond border'. There are many boundaries, which are similar to the sublime, for us to arrive in our lives. Spiritually there are also many boundaries(regions) that are made by our desires, wills and concepts. In a while there are limit or problem in our recognizing things, for example, of human's five senses that would be, to an extent connected with Buddhistic understanding of boundaries. Boundaries resulted from partiality in understanding of objects must be got rid of eventually. In regard of these matters, this thesis discusses the meanings of boundary, those that are inevitably made by human's consciousness, and negative ones to be got over from recognition systems of person or any groups.
Rather than an abstract discourse, the purpose of this study is to outline the core concepts in the 2015 revised curriculum as a concrete teaching and learning method in the school context. We interviewed eight secondary science teachers and reported their perceptions and perspectives on core concepts using a backward design model based on the cyclical process of the platform, deliberation, and design for developing teaching and learning materials to understand core concepts. The participants perceived these core concepts differently, such as big ideas corresponding to the ultimate principle, minimum science concepts required for daily life, and primary and significant key concepts. In addition, this affects the association of teaching and learning. When core concepts are understood as transferable and expandable big ideas, there is a tendency to focus on the relationship between concepts and design project learning in a specific direction. However, if core concepts are identified as minimum science concepts at the level of science literacy, that can be recalled within the context of life, there is a tendency to emphasize on activities that make a meaningful difference to the lives of students with focus on case studies that are relevant to everyday life. Once core concepts are identified as key scientific content elements, such as basic or significant concepts, teachers recognize that it is essential to emphasize concept changes by correcting misconceptions, acquiring accurate scientific knowledge, and developing problem-solving items through paper-and-pencil evaluation. As the 2015 revised curriculum is finalized and the 2022 revised curriculum is scheduled for release, effective policy support is required to ensure that the curriculum is revised, which emphasizes the purpose of big ideas by naming core concepts as core ideas, to be stably implemented in schools.
Discussion of facial image of the movie starts is recognized as an art movie that started from silent film period. Critical discussions on the facial image initiated with the emergence of 'close-up' are performed in the context to claim the superiority of close-up format. Therefore, the trend of critical discussion on the facial image differs from two perspectives to perceive close-up in this era. The first perspective is to privilege both face and close-up since close-up is recognized as the unique tool to realize the face considering close-up as the independent body to have new aesthetic feasibility of the movie. The second perspective is to consider close-up as one of the plots in the movie language to complete its narration. In this case, it is perceived as just a short, which has no differentiation from the others, as long as the facial image does not interfere the completeness of the narration, because the characteristics of close-up to highlight the subject more than the other short is not recognized as the unique form to complete the movie, and because it has the meaning only when the subject and the format aim to maintain the completeness of the narration.
This study examines the social discourse on the characteristics of the learning community in the untact era, and discusses the directions that learning communities for children could explore and consider in the pandemic situation and beyond. For this purpose, big data for one year, from January 20, 2020 to January 20, 2021, were collected through internet portal sites (includingincluding Google News, Daum, Naver and other News surfaces), using two keywords "untact" and "learning community", and analyzed by employing a word frequency and network analysis method. The analysis results show that several important terms, such as 'village education community', 'operation', 'activity', 'corona 19', 'support', and 'online' are closely related to the learning community in the untact era. The findings from this study also have implications for developing the learning community as an alternative model to fill the existing gaps in public care and education for children during the prolonged pandemic and afterwards. In conclusion, the study findings highlight that it is meaningful to identify key terms and concepts through word frequency analysis in order to examine social trends and issues related to the learning community.
We recognize all objects by seeing. However, we are not sure that the things we see through our eyes are their essence. Here comes my question: What does it mean that humans see and recognize things? The things we see are images and so I consider recognizing an object as semiosis via our visual sensation and brain. That is because objects are defined not by their essence but as symbols we recognize. In the era of post-modernism art is a voluntary creative activity that creates a kind of spiritual value and plays an important role for appreciators who realize the fact to enjoy the life value. This paper focused on the art putting aesthetic value on humans' recognition and explored works of art in a visually perceptible way through semiosis. That is because art, an act of creating things, is symbolic and closely linked to semiotic system. Furthermore, derivative visual signs can be considered to be in line with the viewers' visual perception. If we interpreted by recognizing the works of art along with symbol, we can enjoy the works in depth through recognizing their color or shape. Therefore, I intended to discourse on color perception focusing on colors in order to analyze the relationship between art and symbol in the process of recognizing works of art. This paper looked into background of color recognition, status of colors and ways of expression for impressionist who painted with various colors and examined colors as a sensory language. In the process of interpreting art works by communication between the artist and viewers, the role of color is considered as visual symbol through the artist's experience, consciousness, emotions, and their senses. It can be interpreted the visual language through signification of the symbols when the colors are formed in works of art as a recognizable space. Therefore we expect to study in the Visual arts to be the colors symbolic analysis is extended to more effective communication tool.
In the crossroads of social change caused by the spread of the Fourth Industrial Revolution and the prolonged COVID-19, the Korean government announced the Digital New Deal policy on July 14, 2020. The Digital New Deal policy's primary goal is to create new businesses by accelerating digital transformation in the public sector and industries around data, networks, and artificial intelligence technologies. However, in a rapidly changing social environment, information asymmetry of the future benefits of technology can cause differences in the public's ability to analyze the direction and effectiveness of policies, resulting in uncertainty about the practical effects of policies. On the other hand, the media leads the formation of discourse through communicators' role to disseminate government policies to the public and provides knowledge about specific issues through the news. In other words, as the media coverage of a particular policy increases, the issue concentration increases, which also affects public decision-making. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to verify the dynamic relationship between the media coverage and the stock market on the Korean government's digital New Deal policy using Granger causality, impulse response functions, and variance decomposition analysis. To this end, the daily stock turnover ratio, daily price-earnings ratio, and EWMA volatility of digital technology-based companies related to the digital new deal policy among KOSDAQ listed companies were set as variables. As a result, keyword search volume, daily stock turnover ratio, EWMA volatility have a bi-directional Granger causal relationship with media coverage. And an increase in media coverage has a high impact on keyword search volume on digital new deal policies. Also, the impulse response analysis on media coverage showed a sharp drop in EWMA volatility. The influence gradually increased over time and played a role in mitigating stock market volatility. Based on this study's findings, the amount of media coverage of digital new deals policy has a significant dynamic relationship with the stock market.
This study examined the case of women's conflict experience in small and medium size enterprises. Although the number of women working in business organizations is rapidly growing in Korea, discourse about them is still scarce. Some discourse about them focuses only on the productivity and inequality aspects within the organizations. Therefore, we need to examine their organizational lives through a more dynamic and performance based perspective. Especially, because conflicts experience by women within business organizations involve a variety of organizational interactions, they reveal the vivid reality with which working women face today. The existing conflict research studies focused on communication or interpersonal relationship are limited by the fact that they have primarily dealt with the variables such as conflict management styles. However, conflict research needs a more specific and wholistic interpretation because conflicts usually depend on their contexts and interaction dynamics. Therefore, the phenomenological methodology was employed as a more appropriate method for the current conflict study. Results shows that the two themes were identified regarding the conflict content. The first and second themes were the unfair situations and the hierarchical rank respectively. The three themes were identified regarding the attitudes about conflicts. They were the passive stance toward conflicts, the recognition of the gender difference, and the acknowledgement of the importance of the relational aspect respectively. Finally, three more themes were identified regarding the conflict management styles. The first, second and third themes were the passive responding, the aggressive responding and the positive conflict management respectively. In addition, the implications of the results and the suggestions for future studies were made.
As animation emerged as a high value-added content business, more studies are conducted focusing on the fact that the key to the success of animation is not a story but a character. This study aims to examine the characters of , the globally loved animation, and figure out its interactive way of attracting viewers based on Spectatorship Theory, so that it can help set the nation's TV animation series to be made on the right track. To achieve this goal, it will explore various aspects including the concept of animation character, the relations between ideology and character, and the changes in design according to a social phenomenon, then based on Spectatorship Theory will analyze and suggest how the characters of fulfill the required conditions to attract viewers. In addition, it will examine the wide application of the characters of . In conclusion, unlike theatrical animation, TV animation has a characteristic that it can easily and repeatedly deliver messages to viewers over a long time, however, domestic TV animation turned out to fail to utilize the advantage. In other words, while its character has distinct individuality, it is not supported by creative and solid story line, and the character is not attractive as much as the characters of which successfully evoke sympathy from viewers. In animation, arousing sympathy from its viewers or audiences is very important, so a character that well reflects social discourse is an integral part of it. Therefore, in-depth and specialized study on animation's character is highly required for the sustainable success and growth of domestic animation.
