In this paper a new analytic method for Ladder networks by weighted tree is proposed. In contrast to conventional tree concept that represents only information structure, in this paper, a tree with hierarchical structure is established by giving wei체t of impedance Z and admittance Y to branch and representing each node of its branch as a pair of voltage and current. Then, by defining generation level from tree structure and by parsing between standand level and arbitrary level, driving point impedance, transfer function and transfer impedance are simultaneously obtained instead of complex calculation method by inspection. The validity of this method is proved by the reciprocal theorem and this method is applied to four-terminal constants and the feedback network.

Unbond brace hysteretic dampers are generally used to prevent or decrease structural damage in building structures subjected to strong earthquake by its energy dissipating hysteretic behavior. In the study, a straightforward design procedure for unbond brace hysteretic dampers was developed. The required amount of equivalent damping to satisfy given performance acceptance criteria was obtained conveniently based on the capacity spectrum method without carrying out time-consuming nonlinear dynamic time history analysis. Then the size of the unbond braces is determined from the required equivalent damping. Parametric study has been performed for the design variables such as natural period, yield strength, the stiffness after the first yield stress of the unbond brace. The procedure was applied to 5-story and 10-story steel frames for verification of the proposed method. According to the earthquake time history analysis results, the maximum displacement of the model structure with unbond braces supplied in accordance with the proposed method corresponds well with the given target displacement.

Site soil condition affects significantly on the seismic response of a structure and is a critical factor for the performance based seismic design of a structure. In this paper, the effects of nonlinear soil properties on the elastic response spectra of a structure including the nonlinearity of a soil due to the earthquake excitation is investigated using one step finite element approach for the entire soil structure system and approximate linear iterative procedure to simulate the nonlinear soil behavior with the Ramberg-Osgood soil model. Studies were carried out for a linear SDOF system of a variable period with and without a pile group for the 1940 CI Centro earthquake recorded on ground rather than rock. The study results showed clearly that the effect of the nonlinear behavior of soft soil is very important on the elastic seismic response of a structure suggesting the necessity of the performance based seismic design.

This study proposed a convenient seismic design procedure for buckling-restrained braced frames based on the equivalent energy concept. The design process begins with the computation of input energy from response spectrum. Then the elastic energy and plastic energy are computed based on the equal energy concept. The computed plastic energy is distributed to each story along energy distribution ratio and the cross-sectional area of each brace is computed so that all the plastic energy is dissipated by the brace. The proposed procedure was applied to the design of three-, six-, and twenty-story steel frames with buckling-restrained braces, and artificial earthquake records were used for verification of the proposed method. According to analysis results, top story displacements of the low-rise structure satisfies the given target displacement however that of the twenty-story structure was much smaller than the given target displacement.

Mica capacitor is being adopted for high voltage firing unit of guided weapon system because of its superior impact enduring property relative to ceramic capacitor. Reliability of localized mica high voltage capacitors was verified through environmental test like terminal strength test, humidity test, thermal shock test and accelerated life test for application to high voltage firing unit. Failure mode of mica capacitor is a decrease of insulation resistance and its final dielectric breakdown. Main constants of accelerated life model were derived experimentally and voltage constant and activation energy were 5.28 and 0.805 eV respectively. Lifetime of mica capacitor at normal use condition was calculated to be 38.5 years by acceleration factor, 496, and lifetime at accelerated condition and this long lifetime confirmed that mica high voltage capacitor could be applied for firing unit.

This paper proposes the algorithms that design the highly parallel multiple-valued logic curcuit and assign the code to each node of DCG(Directed Cyclic Graph) of length 1. The conventional Nakajima's algorithm have some problems, so this paper introduce the matrix equation from DCG of length 1 and proposes circuit design algorithms according to the DCG of length 1. Using the proposed circuit design algorithms in this paper, it become realized that was not able to design from Nakajima's algorithm. Also, making a comparision between the circuit design using Nakajima's algorithm and this paper's, we testify that proposed paper's algorithm is able to realize more optimized circuit design. According to proposed curcuit design algorithm in this paper, it is possible to design curcuit that DCG have natural number, so it have the following advantages; reduction of the curcuit input/output digits, simplification of curcuit composition, reduction of computation time and cost. And we show compatibility and verification about this paper's algorithm.

The mixed convolved action principle provides a new rigorous weak variational formalism for a broad range of initial boundary value problems in mathematical physics and mechanics in terms of mixed formulation, convolution, and fractional calculus. In this paper, its potential in the development of numerical methods for transient problems in various dynamical systems when adopting temporally second order approximation is investigated. For this, the classical single-degree-of-freedom linear elastic dynamical systems are primarily considered to investigate computational characteristics of the developed algorithms. For the undamped system, all the developed algorithms are symplectic with respect to the time step. For the damped system, they are shown to be accurate with good convergence characteristics.

Large spatial structures consist of roof structure and its supporting structure. Authors simply call the supporting structure "lower parts" and roof structure "upper parts". To study the influence of an lower part on the seismic response of the upper part of a structure as a first step, authors substitute the upper part and the lower part of the structure to a single degree of freedom system individually, and set up a new 2 DOF structural model connected by them. It is clarified that the mass ratio and the period ratio of an upper part to a lower part are important parameters to find the amplification or reduction of the seismic response of an upper part.

A significant new technique in the dsvelopment of micro-wave circuits is the process of untilization of coupled lines in the transverse electro-magnetic field. The bases for this technique are the application of even-and odd-mode characteristic impedances of the transmission line. This article describes the properties of directional couplers and explains a prccfdure usrd to design micro-strip directional couplers with the aid of the computer. The article also describes the experimental results obtained from seven microstrip couplers, which were built to verify the computer program and the approximate solutions. It can be seen that in cases at X-band where couplings of 10 to 20dB are required, the computer program and approximate solutions will produce good results.

In this paper, seismic fragility analysis of lightning arrester is performed using capacity spectrum method(CSM). Since seismic fragility analysis of structure with many structural members is required to calculate many inelastic responses for several tens or hundreds of ground motions, simple method such as CSM is more appropriate than response history analysis(RHA). In general, accuracy of seismic response evaluated by CSM is less than that by RHA. In order to increase accuracy of CSM, equivalent SDOF method and performance point calculation technique are applied to CSM. Seismic fragility method proposed by Shinozuka et al. is used. In order to evaluate site effect of ground motions on seismic fragility, 60 different site classification earthquakes are selected as input ground motions. From the seismic fragility curves of lightning arrester evaluated by CSM and RHA, it can be observed that the seismic fragility curves evaluated by CSM are very similar to those by RHA. Also, it can be observed that main seismic failure mode of lightning arrest is bushing breakage.
