Personal dosimetry system is required to measure the personal dose equivalent accurately in a wide range of radiation fields, but the dose evaluation algorithms have been developed with the X-ray fields described in MOST Ordinance (equivalent to the ANSI N13.11) from which the actual fields to be monitored may be significantly different. To evaluate the dose more accurately when workers are exposed to the non-ANSI N13.11 radiation fields, two algorithms for monochromatic radiations (one algorithm was used for various ratios of TL dosimeter and the other for matrix approximation) were developed with the experimental data of the energy responses of the $CaSO_4:Dy$ TL materials irradiated by monochromatic X-ray fields recently established in KAERI, and compared with the another algorithm developed on the basis of the ANSI N13.11 continuous spectrum X-ray fields. Then it follows the discussions for some results of the algorithm testing including mixed fields irradiations and angular response conducted in IAEA/RCA intercomparison as well as ANSI and ISO continuous spectrum X-ray and monochromatic radiation fields. The developed algorithms were successfully performed the test not only in the continuous spectrum X-ray fields given by MOST Ordinance but also in the several non-MOST Ordinance radiation fields which could be encountered in the practical working environments.
Single source and dual source measurements using anthropomorphic phantoms in which the phantoms are lined up in human body equivalents use OSLD (Optically Stimulated Luminescence Dosimeter), so the effective dose is calculated using OSLD. For hospital images, SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio) and CNR (Contrast to Noise Ratio) were measured in MCA (Middle Cerebral Artery) for single source and dual source, and for phantom images, SNR and CNR were measured for brain parenchyma of single source and dual source. For hospital imaging, SNR and CNR were measured in MCA for both single-source and dual-source, and for phantom images, SNR and CNR were measured for brain parenchyma from single-source and dual-source. As a result of comparing the SNR and CNR of the hospital image and the phantom image, there was no statistical difference. Comparing patient doses in hospital images, the effective dose of the dual source was 53.53% less and the effective dose of the dual energy phantom was 57.94% less. The dose can be increased in other areas, but the cerebrovascular area is useful because the dose is small.
When continuous X-ray are used when acquiring and X-ray image, even the same material may not be accurately represented in the image according to the thickness due to various X-ray energies. To solve this problem, the X-ray energy spectrum was changed to improve the image quality. Using SPEKTR v3.0, an X-ray energy spectrum with an additional filter added and a general X-ray energy spectrum using only a unique filter were obtained. Simulation was performed using the obtained X-ray energy spectrum as a radiation source for Geant4 Application for Tomographic Emission (GATE). Using GATE data, an X-ray image with an additional filter and an image reconstructed from and X-ray image without an additional filter were compared and analyzed through a mono energy image of 74 keV. In the case of using the X-ray energy spectrum without using an additional filter, the amount of X-rays transmitted according to the thickness of the same material is different from the amount that decreases according to the thickness of the material. Similar results were obtained as the amount decreased with the material thickness. In other words, a similar result was obtained when the reduced dose was used with a mono energy. When an X-ray image is obtained by changing an X-ray energy spectrum using an additional filter, a more accurate result of transmission of X-rays may be obtained. In radiological examination, it was confirmed that the appropriate use of the additional filter has a great effect on improving the image quality.

Purpose : This study will evaluate the clinical utility by applying clinical schematic that uses monoenergy or dual energy as according to the location of tumors to the stereotactic radiotherapy to compare the change in actual dose given to the real tumor and the dose that locates adjacent to the tumor. Materials and Methods : CT images from a total of 10 patients were obtained and the clinical planning were planned based on the volumetric modulated arc therapy on monoenergy and dual energy. To analyze the change factor in the tumor, Comformity Index(CI) and Homogeneity Index(HI) and maximum dose quantity were each calculated and comparing the dose distribution on normal tissues, $V_{10}$ and $V_5$, first ~ fourth ribs closest to the tumor ($1^{st}{\sim}4^{th}$ Rib), Spinal Cord, Esophagus and Trachea were selected. Also, in order to confirm the accuracy on which the planned dose distribution is really measured, the 2-dimensional ion chamber array was used to measure the dose distribution. Results : As of the tumor factor, CI and HI showed a number close to 1 when the two energies were used. As of the maximum dose, the front chest wall showed 2% and the dorsal tumor showed equivalent value. As of normal tissue, the front chest wall tumors were reduced by 4%, 5% when both energies were used in the adjacent rib and as of trachea, reduced by 11%, 17%. As of the dose in the lung, as of $V_{10}$, it reduced by 1.5%, $V_5$ by 1%. As of the rear chest wall, when both energies were used, the ribs adjacent to the tumors showed 6%, 1%, 4%, 12% reduction, and in the lung dose distribution, $V_{10}$ reduced by 3%, and $V_5$ reduced by 3.1%. The dose measurement in all energies were in accordance to the results of Gamma Index 3mm/3%. Conclusion : It is considered that rather than using monoenergy, utilizing double energy in the clinical setting can be more effectively applied to the superficial tumors.
This study aims to compare and evaluate the image differences between single and dual sources in applying a technique to reduce metal artifacts using dual energy CT. Discovery CT 256 (GE, USA) as a single source device and Somatom Definition Flash (Siemens Health Care, Forchheim, Germany) as a dual source device. The self-made phantom (pigs with medical titanium screws inserted) was quantitative and qualitatively evaluated under the same conditions by varying the dose under the same conditions using a dual energy CT. The evaluation method was compared by measuring SNR for metal artifacts (scattering, stripe) generated by metal inserts, divided around bones and around tissues. There was a difference in images in the method of reducing metal artifacts between single-source and dual-source devices. In a single source device, the linearized prosthesis by metal implantation showed a greater decrease than the image obtained from a double source device, and the surrounding tissue was well observed without interference from the artifact. In dual-source devices, scattering and stripe artifacts caused by metal inserts decreased more than on a single source device, and signals from adjacent tissues surrounding the metal implant were well observed without diminishing. If the examination is conducted separately between single source and dual source devices depending on whether the area to which the patient is intended to be viewed during the examination is adjacent to the metal insert or the total tissue surrounding the metal insert, it is believed that diagnostic helpful images can be obtained.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the usefulness of cerebral angiography in each energy level by using dual energy technique in CT. Methods were performed on 15 DE images and SE images of CT angiography. For the analysis of images, mean value, standard deviation, SNR and CNR value were determined by setting ROI on MCA, brain parenchyma tissue, and back ground. As a result of concurrent visual evaluation with Likert 5 point scale, the clearest MCA image was confirmed at DE 40 keV and SE 120 kVp(p>0.05). The SNR value of the SE image was measured to be similar to the 40 keV energy level of the DE image. The low energy level image of 40 keV and 50 keV was measured with a high SNR and the contrast ratio was higher than that of the high energy image.
Some modern accerelators provide a dual energy for photon beam treatment. The main advantages of dual energy in the treatment of rectosigmoid or rectal cancer are as fellows. 1. Dose in the critical organ such as small intestine, bladder and genital organ are reduced. 2. Presacral and perineal area is fully covered. Dose distribution analysis such as calculation of dose in a target volume, isocenter, $D_{nax}$ and dose spectrum in any region of interest are possible. Examples of plan are given and results are discussed.
The purpose of this study is to derive a formula for calculating the effective energy of an X-ray beam generated by a CT simulator. Under 90, 120, and 140 kVp X-ray beams, the CT number calibration insert part of the AAPM CT performance phantom was scanned 5 times with a CT simulator. The CT numbers of polyethylene, polystyrene, water, nylon, polycarbonate, and acrylic were measured for each CT slice image. The average value of CT number measured under a single tube voltage and the linear attenuation coefficients corresponding to each photon energy calculated from the data of the National Institute of Standards and Technology were linearly fitted. Among the obtained correlation coefficients, the photon energy having the maximum value was determined as the effective energy. In this way, the effective energy of the X-ray beam generated at each tube voltage was determined. By linearly fitting the determined effective energies(y) and tube voltages(x), y=0.33026x+30.80263 as an effective energy calculation formula was induced.
The purpose of this study is finding optimum contrast medium quantity during abdominal CT using dual energy technique. The study subjects are 30 patients who had received general single energy abdominal CT and received double energy technique follow-up abdominal CT. dual energy technique abdominal CT images were obtained after setting contrast medium quantities at 30%, 40%, 50%, 60% and 70% of contrast medium quantity at the time of single energy technique. Then the contrast enhancement (Hounsfield Unit; HU) was estimated by setting-up the regions of interest at aorta, inferior vena cava, hepatic portal vein and hepatic parenchymal. The obtained values were compared to the values of the same parts measured during single energy technique abdominal CT. The results of the study were as following. The 60% set up group had HU in aorta : $210.80{\pm}13.609$, IVC : $190.40{\pm}25.215$, hepatic portal vein : $198.40{\pm}21.232$ and hepatic parenchymal : $119.20{\pm}7.98$, The single energy abdomianl CT images had HU in aorta : $205.40{\pm}16.426$, IVC : $188.20{\pm}21.476$, hepatic portal vein : $195.40{\pm}22.744$ and hepatic parenchymal : $121.00{\pm}6.595$. Therefore, it is possible to obtain contrast enhancement by dual energy technique abdominal CT similar to the same by single energy technique abdominal CT by setting-up the quantity of contrast medium at 60% of contrast medium at the time of single energy technique abdominal CT. Based on the result of this study, it is possible to decrease existing quantity of contrast medium by _% and the injection velocity can be also decreased. Accordingly, it is believed that the result of study would be quite useful for patients who have renal function disorder, weak vein or side effect of contrast medium in the past.

A calculation is presented of air-scattered gamma rays using the modified single-scattering approximation. The air-scattered tissue dose rates are calculated for a general purpose taking into account (a) the buildup and exponential attenuation, (b) the energy spectrum at the position of question and (c) the geometrical scattering volume in three dimensions. These calculations have been further modified to render them applicable to a typical field irradiation facility which is surrounded by a shield wall and in which the source is fitted with a beam collimating device. The results of the calculation include the energy spectra, angular distribution and tissue does rates at source-receiver separation distances of from 35m to 300m. The comparison shows that the present method developed may be generally adequate for the gamma-ray air-scattering problems in field irradiation facilities if energy and angular distribution at the shield are unimportant.
