  • We suggest new 2D two-way Parabolic equation algorithm for multiple scattering. Our method is based on the successive performance of the single scattering approach. First. as the single scattering algorithm, the reflected and transmitted fields are calculated at the vertical interface of a range independent sector. Then. the reflected field is saved and the transmitted field Propagated to the next vertical interface with the split-step Pade method. After one step ends, the same Process is repeatedly performed with the change of the Propagation direction until the reflected field at the vertical interface is close to zero. Final incoming and outgoing fields are obtained as the sum of the wave fields obtained for each step. Our algorithm is relatively simple for the numerical implementation and requires less computational resources than the existing algorithm for multiple scattering

  • By the advent of the high resolution satellite imagery, a ground-coverage included by a single satellite image is decreased. By the reason, there are increasing needs in image mosaicking technology to use images to various GIS fields. This paper describes an edge-based seamline extraction algorithm using edge information such as rivers, roads, buildings for image mosaicking. For this, we developed a method to track and link discontinuous edges extracted by edge detection operator. To estimate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, we applied the algorithm to IKONOS, KOMPSAT-1 and SPOT-5 satellite images. The experimental results showed that the algorithm successfully dealts with discontinuities caused by geometric differences in two images.

  • A numerical analysis of the wave characteristics of wave diffraction and the interference effects for a single cylinder and for two cylinders were carried out by the Boundary Element Method using constant elements. The Present investigation was limited to the diffraction of 2-dimensional linear waves by vertical impervious cylinders. Numerical model has been written to calculate the wave diffraction coefficient both on the boundary of the cylinders and at points away from it. The accuracy of the computational scheme was investigated by comparing the analytical results of the other reseraches. Good agreement was observed.

  • A method for the automatic segmentation of speech signals is described. The method is dedicated to the construction of a large database for a Text-To-Speech (TTS) synthesis system. The main issue of the work involves the refinement of an initial estimation of phone boundaries which are provided by an alignment, based on a Hidden Market Model(HMM). Multi-layer perceptron (MLP) was used as a phone boundary detector. To increase the performance of segmentation, a technique which individually trains an MLP according to phonetic transition is proposed. The optimum partitioning of the entire phonetic transition space is constructed from the standpoint of minimizing the overall deviation from hand labelling positions. With single speaker stimuli, the experimental results showed that more than 95% of all phone boundaries have a boundary deviation from the reference position smaller than 20 ms, and the refinement of the boundaries reduces the root mean square error by about 25%.

  • In this paper, we propose a boundary based marker binary coding method for augmented reality games, which enables the marker-area to be binary coded well in any lighting environments. First, it detects the boundary after transforming an original marker image to a gray scale image, and it executes 4 way pixel extensions for all boundary pixels in order to make the boundary to closed area. Next, for all boundary pixels it compares the brightness of right and left ones of each pixel and allocates black for the lower side and white for the higher side by filling inside area thru the seeded region growing. Experimental results showed that our proposed method produces a good binary marker image recognizable in various light environments. In addition, it showed the possibility of real-time calculation by considering the result of operation speed which is 51 fps for VGA image.

  • In order to compute linear wave transformation over a single step bottom, both variational approximation and eigenfunction expansion method are used. Both numerical results are in good agreement for reflection and transmission coefficients, surface displacement respectively. However x velocity profiles at the boundary of step are seen to be different to each other even though x velocity matching condition is used.

  • The nerve system specific protein of Drosophila melanogaster was produced by using heads of flies as the antigen. The monoclonal antibody 6H6 recognized the disabled molecules that a kind of tyrosine kinase substrate by expres-sion cDNA library screening method. At the same time, the antibody also specifically recognized C-terminal region of disabled protein from 7427 to 8761bp by DNA sequencing. In early embryos, the localization of antigen appeared in the central nerve system. In adult flies, the antigen showed specific localization on the axon of optic nerve, cerebral nerve and thoracic nerve, and they also expressed on the muscular nerve. The molecules of disabled are expected to carry an important function in developing central nerve system. In adult flies, it is suggested that the disabled molecules have a role for muscular nerve as well as neural axon.

  • Multimodal biometrics is a method for personal authentication and verification using more than two types of biometrics data. RBF based score-level fusion uses pattern recognition algorithm for multimodal biometrics, seeking the optimal decision boundary to classify score feature vectors each of which consists of matching scores obtained from several unimodal biometrics system for each sample. In this case, all matching scores are assumed to have the same reliability. However, in recent research it is reported that the quality of input sample affects the result of biometrics. Currently the matching scores having low reliability caused by low quality of samples are not currently considered for pattern recognition modelling in multimodal biometrics. To solve this problem, in this paper, we proposed the RBF based score-level fusion approach which employs quality information of input biometrics data to adjust decision boundary. As a result the proposed method with Qualify information showed better recognition performance than both the unimodal biometrics and the usual RBF based score-level fusion without using quality information.

  • Effects of fiber-matrix interphases on the micro-and macro-mechanical behaviors of unidirectionally fiber-reinforced composites subjected to transverse shear loading at remote distance have been studied. The interphases between fibers and matrix have been modeled by the spring-layer which accounts for continuity of tractions, but allows radial and circumferential displacement jumps across the interphase that are linearly related to the normal and tangential tractions. Numerical calculations for basic cells of the composites have been carried out using the boundary element method. For an undamaged composite the micro-level stresses at the matrix side of the interphase and effective shear stiffness have been computed as functions of fiber volume ratio $V_f$ and interphase stiffness k. Results are presented for various interphase stiffnesses from the perfect bonding to the case of total debonding. For a square array composite the results show that for a high interphase stiffness k>10, an increase of $V_f$ increases the effective transverse shear modulus G over bar of the composite. For a relatively low interphase stiffness k<1, it is shwon that an increase of $V_f$ slightly decreases the effective transverse shear modulus. For the perfect bonding case, G over bar for a hexagonal array composite is slightly larger than that for a square array composite. Also for a damaged composite partially debonded at the interphase, local stress fields and effective shear modulus are calculated and a decrease in G over bar has been observed.
