  • In this study, we propose a robust estimator of the multivariate location parameter by means of the spatial median based on data trimming which extending trimmed mean in the univariate setup. The trimming quantity of this estimator is determined by the bootstrap method, and its covariance matrix is estimated by using the double bootstrap method. This extends the work of Jhun et al. (1993) to the multivariate case. Monte Carlo study shows that the proposed trimmed spatial median estimator yields better efficiency than a spatial median, while its covariance matrix based on double bootstrap overcomes the under-estimating problem occurred on single bootstrap method.

  • The multivariate empirical distribution function could be defined when its distribution function can be estimated. It is known that bivariate empirical distribution functions could be visualized by using Step plot and Quantile plot. In this paper, the multivariate empirical distribution plot is proposed to represent the multivariate empirical distribution function on the unit square. Based on many kinds of empirical distribution plots corresponding to various multivariate normal distributions and other specific distributions, it is found that the empirical distribution plot also depends sensitively on its distribution function and correlation coefficients. Hence, we could suggest five goodness-of-fit test statistics. These critical values are obtained by Monte Carlo simulation. We explore that these critical values are not much different from those in text books. Therefore, we may conclude that the proposed test statistics in this work would be used with known critical values with ease.

  • Asymmetric jump-diffusion models are effectively used to model the dynamic behavior of asset prices with abrupt asymmetric upward and downward changes. However, the estimation of their extension to the multivariate asymmetric jump-diffusion model has been hampered by the analytically intractable likelihood function. This article confronts the problem using a data augmentation method and proposes a new Bayesian method for a multivariate asymmetric Laplace jump-diffusion model. Unlike the previous models, the proposed model is rich enough to incorporate all possible correlated jumps as well as mention individual and common jumps. The proposed model and methodology are illustrated with a simulation study and applied to daily returns for the KOSPI, S&P500, and Nikkei225 indices data from January 2005 to September 2015.

  • This paper proposes multivariate process capability indices (PCIs) for skewed populations using $T^2$rand modified process region approaches. The proposed methods are based on the multivariate version of a weighted standard deviation method which adjusts the variance-covariance matrix of quality characteristics and approximates the probability density function using several multivariate Journal distributions with the adjusted variance-covariance matrix. Performance of the proposed PCIs is investigated using Monte Carlo simulation, and finite sample properties of the estimators are studied by means of relative bias and mean square error.

  • This paper proposes multivariate control chart for autocorrelated data which are common in chemical and process industries and lead to increase in the number of false alarms when conventional control charts are applied. The effect of autocorrelated data is modeled as a vector autoregressive process, and canonical analysis is used to reduce the dimensionality of the data set and find the canonical variables that explain as much of the data variation as possible. Charting statistics are constructed based on the residual vectors from the canonical variables which are uncorrelated over time, and therefore the control charts for these statistics can attenuate the autocorrelation in the process data. The charting procedures are illustrated with a numerical example and Monte Carlo simulation is conducted to investigate the performances of the proposed control charts.

  • This work propose a robust test for location parameters in multivariate data based on MVE and MCD with the affine equivariance and the high-breakdown properties. We consider the hypothesis testing satisfying high efficiency and high test power simultaneously to bring in the one-step reweighting procedure upon high-breakdown estimators, which generally suffer from the low efficiency and, as a result, usually used only in the exploratory analysis. Monte Carlo study shows that the suggested method retains nominal significance levels and higher testing power without regard to various population distributions than a Hotelling's $T^2$ test. In an example, a data set containing known outliers does not make an influence toward our proposal, while it renders a Hotelling's $T^2$ useless.

  • Liang and Zeger proposed generalized estimating equations(GEE) for analyzing repeated data which is discrete or continuous. GEE model can be extended to model for repeated categorical data and its estimator has asymptotic multivariate normal distribution in large sample sizes. But GEE is based on large sample asymptotic theory. In this paper, we study the properties of GEE estimators for repeated ordinal data in small sample sizes. We generate ordinal repeated measurements for two groups using two methods. Through Monte Carlo simulation studies we investigate the empirical type 1 error rates, powers, relative efficiencies of the GEE estimators, the effect of unequal sample size of two groups, and the performance of variance estimators for polytomous ordinal response variables, especially in small sample sizes.

  • Widely used among the various single imputation methods is k-nearest neighbors (KNN) imputation due to its robustness even when a parametric model such as multivariate normality is not satisfied. We propose a weighted adaptive nearest neighbors imputation method that combines the adaptive nearest neighbors imputation method that accounts for the local features of the data in the KNN imputation method and weighted k-nearest neighbors method that are less sensitive to extreme value or outlier among k-nearest neighbors. We conducted a Monte Carlo simulation study to compare the performance of the proposed imputation method with previous imputation methods.

  • Lotto is one of the most popular lottery games in the world. In korea the lotto considers numbers 1, 2,..., 45 from which 6 numbers are drawn randomly, without replacement. The profits from the lotto supports social welfare. However, there has been a suspicion that the choice of the winning numbers might not be random. In this study, we applied the randomness test developed by Coronel-Brizio et al. (2008) to the historical korean lotto data to see if the drawing process is random. The result of our study shows that the process was random during two periods under the management of different business companies and of price changes, respectively.

  • One of the important problem in statistical hydrology is to estimate the appropriated probability distribution for a given sample data. For the problem, a goodness-of-fit test is conducted based on the similarity between estimated probability distribution and assumed theoretical probability distribution. Probability plot correlation coefficient test (PPCC) is one of the goodness-of-fit test method. PPCC has high rejection power and its application is simple. In this study, test statistics of PPCC were derived for generalized extreme value distribution (GEV) models based on L-moments and these statistics were suggested by the multiple and nonlinear regression equations for its usability. To review the rejection power of the newly proposed method in this study, Monte Carlo simulation was performed with other goodness-of-fit tests including the existing PPCC test. The results showed that PPCC-A test which is proposed in this study demonstrated better rejection power than other methods, including the existing PPCC test. It is expected that the new method will be helpful to estimate the appropriate probability distribution model.
