The Relationship between Multi-cultural Family Husbands' Stress Related to their Wives and their Psychological Abuse (다문화가족 남편의 아내에 대한 스트레스와 심리적 학대의 관련성)

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between multi-cultural family husbands' stress related to their wife and their psychological abuse based on the Stress theory of Lazarus et al. Data from 271 subjects that answered to all questions regarding the subjects' social demographic characteristics, and the husbands' stress related to their wife and their psychological abuse of their wife in statistical analyses. To analyze the data, a study model was set using multi-cultural family husbands' stress related to their wife as an independent variable and their psychological abuse of their wife as a dependent variable and the goodness-of-fit of the model for the data and the relationship between the variables were reviewed using a structural equation model. According to the results, the goodness-of-fit index of the model satisfied the statistical acceptable standard with CFI=0.909 and RMSEA=0.057. The relationship between the variables indicated that multi-cultural family husbands' stress related to their wife had significant effects on their psychological abuse of their wife. This result indicates the necessity of intervention for management of the husbands' stress in order to prevent multi-cultural family husbands' psychological abuse of their wife.

The Effect on the Marital Satisfaction to marriage immigrant wives whose spouse of in an old age : Focusing on Social service and Human support (노년기 남편을 둔 결혼이주여성의 결혼만족도에 미치는 영향 요인 : 인적지지와 사회서비스를 중심으로)

  • This study is focused on increasing of population aging and multicultural families in Korea. This study is conducted to figure out the marital satisfaction of marriage immigrant wives having elderly husband and to verify the effect of the social service and human support. This analysis was used in the '2009 National Multicultural Families Survey' data is at least 65 years of age, married immigrant spouses wife 236 case. Descriptive statistics were performed for statistical analysis and hierarchical regression techniques. The effective variables of the marriage immigrant wives include the experience of discrimination, subjective health condition, education for social adjustment, whether an adviser is Korean when they face difficulties, and whether the frequency of contacts made with their families in homeland is more than once to three times a year. Analysis shows that these things works as the effect variable of marital satisfaction.

Relationship between Daily Life Conflicts, Depression, Family Resilience, and Marital Happiness of Intermarried Korean Men (다문화가족 남편의 일상생활갈등, 우울 및 가족탄력성과 결혼행복과의 관계)

  • The purposes of this study were to find the correlation between daily life conflicts, depression, social support, family resilience and marital happiness, and to explore the mediating role of family resilience between daily life conflicts, depression and marital happiness. The subjects of the survey were 184 intermarried Korean men. The data were analyzed with frequency, Pearson's correlation and structural equation modeling by SPSS and AMOS. The instruments included Jang (2007)'s Daily Life Conflict, Shin (2001)'s Mental Health Scale, Yu (2004)'s Family Health Scale, and Natham et al. (1973)'s Marital Happiness Scale. The major findings were as follows: Daily life conflicts and depression were negatively correlated with family resilience and marital happiness. Family resilience was positively correlated with marital happiness. Family resilience mediated the effects of daily life conflicts, depression and marital happiness. Daily life conflicts and depression influenced family resilience. In conclusion, in order to build family resilience it is important to intervene in intermarried Korean men's marital happiness through special education programs and counseling.

Factors of The Married Couple Influencing Marital Satisfaction of The Multicultural Family Husband (다문화 가족 남편의 결혼만족도에 영향을 미치는 부부 관련 변인)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors influencing the marital satisfaction of husbands in multicultural families. This study will provide basic data to develop the policies and services related to multicultural families. Data were collected through the questionnaire method from 99 multicultural couples. Analysis of the data consisted of t-tests to compare the psychological characters of the couple and multiple regression to analyze the independent effects of the related variables. The results can be summarized as follows: First, self-esteem, depression, and multicultural acceptance attitude are significantly higher for the wife than for the husband. Second, regarding the influence of the relevant factors on the husband's marital satisfaction, the most significant factors include the gap in the couple's ages, the husband's self-esteem and sex role attitude, and the wife's sex role attitude, godiness, and marital satisfaction.

A Study on Mental Health, Resilience and Happiness of Intermarried Korean Men (다문화가족 남편의 정신건강, 레질리언스와 행복에 대한 연구)

  • The purposes of this study were to uncover the relationships and correlations between mental health, resilience and happiness. The sample consisted of 184 intermarried Korean men. The data were analyzed by means of frequency, Pearson's correlation, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS. The major findings were as follows; Mental health was negatively correlated with resilience and happiness, except for the component of negative emotion. Additionally, resilience was positively correlated with feelings of happiness and positive emotion. Second, social maladaptation and depression had a negative influence on resilience and a negative influence on happiness. Resilience had a mediating effect on mental health and feelings of happiness. Resilience had a mediating effect on mental health and positive emotion, while resilience had a mediating effect on mental health and negative emotion. In conclusion, in order to improve happiness it is important to mediate on intermarried Korean men's resilience through special education programs and counseling.

Phenomenological Study on Husband's Role in Rural Multicultural Family (농촌 다문화가정 여성의 남편역할 인식과 경험에 대한 질적연구)

  • This study performed quality study to examine cognition and experience as it is about husband role of wife's perception in rural multicultural family. Specifically the results of in-depth interviews with 13 females in rural multicultural family was analyzed through phenomenological method. The results were as followings: first, wife's cognition about husband role in rural multicultural family, they were 'nice and warm man', 'no special thought', 'clean and cool looking man', 'man without straitening wife', 'husband taking care of housekeeping', 'having independent family' and 'strong responsibility to children'. Females in rural multicultural family did not deeply think about husband's role at international marriage, but it could be known that vague longing for rich country, Korea by Korean wave and its expectation continued to expectation on husband. Second, they were 'good-tempered and nice to me', 'adjust to me', 'irresponsibility and apathy', 'cannot lean to him', 'no housekeeping', 'intermediate role between his family', 'more taking care of children, parents and relatives', 'drink, gambling and violence'. The experience of husband role was little different from cognition of husband role by females in rural mulitcultural family.

Successful Marriage Adaptation of Korean Husbands Who are Multicultural Families (다문화가정 한국인 남편의 성공적인 결혼적응)

  • The purpose of the research is to explore the main cause and effect of successful marriage that Korean husbands, who are multicultural families had. To do the research, the experiment has been done with 7 husbands for 2 months. The 7 husbands took depths interview and analyzed the result by grounded theory approach. As a result, the husband experienced 'repentance of marriage' because of 'unready marriage', but 'Raising children', 'Helping housework' and 'recognition from friends and colleague' have affected the husbands to have a successful marriage adaptation. Based on the result, a political and practical proposal has been proposed to the Korean husbands who are multi-cultural family. Here are the examples of the proposal. As a social welfare policy, 'obligation of information offering for prospective spouse', 'following the Labor Standards and parental leave', 'expansion of visiting supervise system' and 'making guidance for husbands and distribute map of Immigration Office, Multicultural Family Support Center and Community Center' have proposed. And as an alternative plan for a practical social welfare policy and continuous social awareness improvement, 'various education program', 'a program with domestic married couple', 'a program with parents-in-law', 'a specific program to increase the housework participation for husbands' and necessity of development and practice of group program for husband have been emphasized.

Contribution Value Estimation on Rural Community by Multi-cultural Family Effect Using WTP (WTP를 이용한 다문화가족이 농촌사회에 미치는 다양한 영향 및 기여가치 평가)

  • To estimate the WTP(Willingness to Pay) for consistent maintenance of rural multi-cultural families' contribution worth such as vitality of rural population, regional economic vitalization, cultural diversity of rural, maintenance of rural family society, and diversity of rural resource, a questionnaire survey was conducted by double-bounded dichotomous choice method based on Weibull model in 41 city county of rural. A estimation models based on Tunball models were developed and applied to WTP estimation with logistic analysis. WTP estimates for consistent maintenance of multi-cultural contribution worth by rural resident was 458 hundred million won. It means that each rural household can pay 13,840 won per annual. WTP estimates assessed by multi-cultural families' husband as a criteria for comparison was 502 hundred million won. It means that each household can pay 15,170 won per annual.
